  5. Bobby Hebert... I grew up with his son... and they are both some of the biggest con-men I have ever met.
  6. Writers are notoriously lazy... I've had full press releases that I've written printed with credit to a staff writer.. which is fine by me...because I get my message out there. I find writers do a lot of cut and pasting from other people's work, and for the sake of promoting a band I'm fine with it.. however good journalism is always appreciated. j
  7. We'll have to get Cosmic Steve to make an apperance at the show and do a poem, Ferengetti style!
  8. MR. S&S are great... but I'm going to see ASH DARGAN!! 8PM also at LULA LOUNGE ASH DARGAN, an Australian indigenous recording artist world renowned for his mastery on the Didgeridoo, has been pushing the boundaries of contemporary world music for the last ten years. His distinct blend of Australian indigenous and contemporary world music captures the essence of one of the oldest cultures on earth and with it transcends the boundaries of time. His music has been described as the soul of the Australian Dreamtime landscape with a timeless quality reflecting a deep connection and reverence for the spiritual wisdom of his ancestry. A member of the Larrakia Nation, the traditional land owners of Darwin in the Northern Territory of Australia, Ash is an ambassador of his culture through his music, storytelling and live performances. Ash was classically trained in music from the age of eight on trumpet and came back to his cultural roots at the age of twenty two. His grandmother and great uncle, both traditional elders of the Larrakia people were instrumental in his musical adoption of the Didgeridoo and its deeper cultural significance. Through them he came to know of the Didgeridoo's unlimited potential for the expression of rhythm and its ability to represent the power of the natural and spiritual worlds. The vocal harmonies used in traditional corroboree‘s (ceremonies) and the natural voice of Australia’s native song birds have also had a great influence on his musical compositions. The launch of Ash’s latest CD STORIES OF WIND at the Small World Festival in 2005 had Ash unleashing his upbeat Didge/eco tribal beat driven grooves laced with live vocals and ethnic flutes to sold out and ever-growing world audience. In both 2005 and 2006, Ash composed orginal music for the Northern Territory Tourist Commission to supply the music for their new international advertising campaign. Ash Dargan 's summer and Fall 2006 tour schedule includes Australia, Europe, Canada and the States.
  9. Thanks Basher, I think the teaser post worked well for this one, but you are probably right, that it's hard out do people's expectations with teasers like this... however I'm overwhelmed by the support we've gotten so far! I'm sorry that you are in a bad mood lately, I've felt some gloom on and off, and I think that a part it's a natural flow of the universe... some times you just have to see the bright side of life....lala lalalalalala
  10. I'm surprised you said this Basher... In my mind this could be the concert of the year because this community has seen this band grow from day-one... and as fans there aren't that many bands that I've followed for this long, known personally and been vicariously on their journey. I think that this is quite an accomplishment for these musicians and also a testament to this scene who continues to support this band. I think this will be an emotionally infused show , as members of the Fat Cats, Caution Jam, and former Burt Neilson Band members are getting together for a rare Toronto appearance to celebrate their 10 year legacy. And for me the best shows were when the music touches a emotional chord in the audience.

Consisting of bass, drums, guitar, keyboards and vocals, BNB thrives on live performances filled with creativity and spontaneity. The band, in their ten year career, have toured Canada coast to coast eighteen times, played over eight hundred shows, had four successful independent releases, and secured an army of loyal and devoted fans. With an original lineup of seven, BNB have refined their sound over the years to be more focused, clean and in tune with the moment. Mike Filipowitsch (guitar/vocals), Jeff Heisholt (keyboards/vocals), Jeremy Little (bass/vocals) and Gavin Maguire (drums/vocals) do their best to create music from the heart, drawing heavily from their backgrounds of rock n' roll, funk, country and life. The road has been good to Burt Neilson Band. They've been lucky enough to play across Canada and the USA, logging countless hours of van time and stage experience. From their beginnings in Northern Ontario, the band quickly branched out to spread their music to as many people as possible. One cross country tour suddenly turned into a dozen and before they knew it, BNB found themselves veterans of the highway and leaders of a new resurgence of independent Canadian touring bands. Consistently selling out rooms across the country and basically living on the road became the norm for Burt Neilson. So in 2002 the band decided to take a year off, settle down and get ready for another long stretch of writing, performing and recording. The band emerged from hibernation in early 2003 and received the "COCA – 2003 Indie Band of the Year" award, played high profile gigs at the Evolve Festival, Come Together Music Festival, Yellowknife Folk Festival and many others... Burt Neilson Band first entered the recording studio in 1997. Although throughout their years they have encouraged the taping and trading of their live shows, 1998 saw the release of the self-titled 'Burt Neilson Band'. Recorded in Thunder Bay, the CD featured 10 of the band's first compositions and went on to sell out of many pressings. BNB followed that with 2000's 'Orange Shag Carpet', which featured more mature writing and showcased the musical growth of the band. 2001 brought the release of 'Five Alive', a live CD recorded while on tour in Ontario that March. It featured one song from each previous release as well as six new originals and clocked in at 74 minutes. The band released their fourth CD, "By the Door" in February 2004, and are currently preparing new material for their next release. for more information please contact: NU FUNK CONCERTS www.nufunk.ca info@nufunk.ca
