Instead of the Marpole Curling club, the party will be held in a venue located near S/E Marine Drive & Boundry. For accurate address, party details and shuttle bus details, call the Info Line @ 604-519-7878.

Addmission is still $10 advance (Highlife and at tonight's Jack show) or $15 at the door.

Right after that, as of Jan 12, Slammin Jack will be on a six week, cross Canada tour, starting in Calgary, promoting a new album schedualled to be released that day! I'll post all the dates very soon, but for now you can check the web page www.slamminjack.com and/ or www.jambase.ca.

    Happy Holidays!

  5. IMO, the moe. show in Vancouver was pretty good, but definetely had it's dull moments.

For me, it seems that about 2 in every 5 or six moe. shows I see kick my ass probably harder than any other band can. The other three that don't, well I'd probably rather see any other band then them. It's usually a matter of song selection.

I guess I'm a gambling man, cause even though I know the odds are agaist me getting the awsome show that I'm looking for, I'll still travell the distance and sacrifice the time and money, if I have it, for a chance at getting the goods.

  6. Oh yeah, and here's some info on the thing i signed up for.... I did the "Galleria" option. My plan was to cancel before they start charging me 17.95 per month. When I called to cancel, they first, trying to talk me out of it, said that for the year I wouldn't have to pay the fee every month. Just once. Then they told me that aside from all the discounts I'll be receiving, which it turns out that some are my girlfriend's favourite stores, they'll send me 4 certificates for $15.00 grocery rebates. In other words, througout the year, for my 17.95, I can send in my grocery receipts 4 times (as long as they're over $40.00), from any grocery store, and they'll send me a $15.00 cheque each time. Plus a similar deal with haircuts and optical stuff.

If you're on that one try canceling and let them buy you back. Ask about the rebate offers.

  7. I believe, according to a recent article about them, their now considered "love funk" and not "porn funk". I guess it's kind of like how all the "jambands" don't want to be jambands anymore. Either way they're good times. Chris Berry's probably the best singer in the Canadian jam music scene. I can't wait 'till they get back west and we get to see some more "Duran Duran Duran"!

  8. So here's a little "curve ball" (as HOB puts it).... Due to the headlining act of the show wanting to go on earlier, Slammin Jack will now be STARTING THE 45 MIN. SET AT 8:30pm. Hopefully some of you will get this message on time to change your plans. Please still come early to help support us.

    Hope to see you later!

  9. guigsy.... actually if you look at my original post, I said that the time that I saw them, "they kicked ass", so don't get so defensive.

and djed... I've seen MMW over 15 times and I'll see them again. Often I wouldn't say they're jamming, I'd say they're noodling and dicking around.

oh yeah.... I have a beard and sometimes where a dead shirt and because I like him, Bela is a jamband.

  10. "are MMW? is Bela?"

    yes.

"who are jambands then, Phish, Gratefull dead and Burt Neilson Band? "

now that's some funny shit considering last I remember, BNB was one of those wanna be, not wanna be jamband bands.

"personally, i dont know why they arent just known as a fuÇking rock band. it's pretty simple to me. rock n roll"

So if you're gonna try to win someone over with the Slip, just tell them "they're a rock and roll band". Do you think that's sufficiant? I think that that's like saying "they're a jamband". Not so explanitory. It's been a while since I've seen them, but last I heard (about 4 years ago), it sounded like jazz to me.

  11. bouche Said:

    personally...

jamband=talented musicians playing real music, live, varying, impromptu, live creativity, toying, experimenting, pleasing, smoking weed.

All is correct, but maybe not the weed part. A lot of jamband players don't smoke weed. Though, a lot of those guys are the ones who spend way too much time trying to convince everybody that they're not a jamband 'cause it's apparentely super uncool to be a jamband. Weather they somoke weed or not, those guys make me laugh.

I think if you call a band a jamband, you still have to define that band a little more because obviously there's so many variations of jambands... jazz, blugrass, funk, reggae, jazzy funky reggaeish bluegrass...... whatever.

I think jambands are cool and if the band is advertised or talked about on this page, they probably ARE a jamband.

The Slip (back to the point of the conversation), who are definetely a jamband.... When I saw them back at their first time playing evolve, I had the opertounity to play the stage right after them and had the opertounity to have some backstage percussion jams with the drummer, they kicked ass. I haven't seen them since. Not too sure if I'd be a hardcore fan if I've seen them a lot since. The concept reminds me of an east coast Garage Mahal. People love 'em, they're absolutely amazing players, and usually I get bored when I see them. Them's the breaks... sometimes the vertuosos aren't so much fun to watch for more than a half hour.

Cully... I know where you're comming from.
