  1. ok, I took out The New Deal's tune (sorry KevO) so here's where we stand. C'mon folks four more and then we can move on! #338 Songs by Canadian jambands that are currently broken up (playing once a year doesn't count...) 1. j'moor - The New Shady Groove 2. Fists of Funk - P.F. Station 3. Something With Feeling - Freeway Band 4. Horses - Rheostatics 5. Gypsy Sol - Leakin' Out The Bottom 6. Slamming Jack - Eat More Pie 7. Slow Nerve Action - Chewin 8. 9. 10. 11. 12.
  2. Beleive me, I also have had some uncomfortable moments at DMB shows. There was the Syracuse On Center show in 1996 (or 97?) where we sat - with fat doobies rolled and ready to be blazed - between 4 12 year old girls in front and a security guard behind us in the aisle. talk about frustrating! yes, these girls chatted aimlessly the whole show until the played "Crash Into Me" (HUGE US hit in 1996), whereupon they wet their little girl panties. Then there was Rochester the night or two before where it was GA on the floor (the War Memorial). Although we weren't intentionally moving in any direction, I remember waving goodbye to Brian Hamilton as the surge of the crowd lifted me up off the floor and carried me away like a wave. By the end of the show we were like 40 ft apart. Music was always solid though.
  3. DMB gets a bad rap for their audience but I have to say that last time I saw them - 2006 I think - at the Molson Amphitheatre, the crowd was awesome. Totally enthusiastic, on their feet all night on the lawn, dancing and singing and smiling, people were polite, no douchebaggery that I saw anywhere. And the ultimate bonus was there was very little in the way of pilled-out wookies shuffling pie-eyed through the crowd. No, these people actually seemed like they cared about their lives.
  4. In my opinion, one cool thing they've done is stick together as a band, keep working, putting out albums, and touring every year. Adding Rashawn Ross on trumpet is nice too and adds a nice depth to their sound. Obviously, if someone doesn't like them by now, well then DMB just isn't for them. Me, I caught onto them back in 1995 and while it's been a rough ride over the years, I still dig 'em. I'll probably check out the Toronto show, depends on ticket prices I guess but hopefully lawn tickets won't be too extravagant. Here's the whole tour for anyone who is interested: 05-30-08 FRI Burgettstown, PA Post-Gazette Pavillion at Star Lake State Radio 05-31-08 SAT Burgettstown, PA Post-Gazette Pavillion at Star Lake State Radio 06-03-08 TUE Camden, NJ Sesquehanna Music Center State Radio 06-03-08 WED Camden, NJ Sesquehanna Music Center State Radio 06-06-08 FRI Bridgeview, IL Toyota Park Sharon Jones & Dap Kings 06-07-08 SAT St. Louis, MO Busch Stadium Black Crowes 06-09-08 MON Clarkston, MI DTE Energy Music Theatre Paolo Nutini 06-10-08 TUE Scranton, PA Toyota Pavillion at Montage Mtn. 5. This just gets funnier every year.
  6. I think I'm the only one who finds it reassuring that we are actually having something resembling a "Real Winter" here in Southern Ontario. It feels right and good.
  7. ok fine, bluegrass, but I think you're really splitting hairs in order to find the description laughable. She was born a fiddle player?!?
  8. What kind of a singer is she?
  9. I saw a nerd weeping softly to himself in a high-pitched whimper on the bus this morning. Now I know why.
  10. is that the solo show? that'll be incredible. have a great one dude.

    BURGERS!

oh dear god. The Big MacChicken
  12. Point is, David Lee Roth has been riding that giant mic since the 1980's, big stupid gimmicks like that are just part of a Van Halen show, so no one should be shocked by it. It's not like people come home from an AC/DC concert and say "well it sure was good but why did the guitar player have to dress up like a stupid schoolboy?!?".
  13. Man...... what a special guy. RIP Jeff.
  14. And the problem there is.......?
  15. I love my veggies too.
  16. From my Scottish side, I ate traditional breakfast fry-ups growing up, on weekend mornings. It really should be illegal to serve this to anyone who can't cook for themselves but it's those awesome square sausages, blood pudding, British style bacon, eggs, beans, potato scones and when it's all fried up you dunk pieces of white bread into all the fat and fry it up. The average Scotsman lives to, I think, 32. Apart from that, it was the post-war mentality of convenience shit foods, so I ate a lot of frozen fish sticks growing up. Never again. Mince n' tatties, a lot of that. HP Sauce. Mmmmmmmmm. We did have haggis occasionally, never made at home, but occasionally served at other people's houses. I certainly had it in Scotland when I was there ten or so years ago. It's not quite the horrors you would think, it's actually rather unremarkable. But tasty ennough. Beyond that, there were Yorkshire puddings and Sunday roasts. YUM! On my Polish side, my dad loved Polish sausage. We also had cabbage stew, I forget the name of it, but that slow roasted cabbage in cream sauce with kielbassa and whatever was around thrown in. It's this sdie of my heritage that made that Polish dish I posted earlier look so good. But to be honest, my favorite food memory growing up was the simple lunch my Mom would make me when I might come home from grade school for lunch (I lived pretty close to my school). Just bread topped with medium or old cheddar and broiled in the toaster oven. Some cracked pepper on top and I would be happy, just watching The Flintstones, munching away. You could really taste the love. Great thread idea!
  17. they've got three gigs coming up in the next few weeks, they may be largely inactive but they are still out there.
  18. I expected more from you. I really did. You're the only man I think about while I cook. And now this? There is a bottle of rum on my kitchen counter.
  19. all the best Tigger - Happy Birthday!!!
  20. Rest in peace, Teo. Thanks.
