  2. I heard that Mr. Vedder is now requesting he be called Ed, not Eddie.

    So, smarten up!

Oh, and don't forget about that guy-who-nobody-knows-his-name-anyway from The Philosopher Kings, who is now calling himself Jarvis Church [Roll Eyes] but ONLY as a solo act; otherwise he's still the guy-who-nobody-knows-his-name-anyway.

I'd like to be called Buckeye Martini from now on, thanks. [big Grin]

I do the same thing. It's an ok book, one of the better ones I've found, although I'm very much looking forward to Dennis McNally's book, which is due out this year, last I heard.

I had to laugh when a while back I opened up that book randomly a few times, and came across two separate stories where two different managers at two different times tell the same story about being awoken in the middle of the night by a totally loaded Billy Kreutzmann, who cusses at 'em, picks them up by their collars and throws them against the wall, telling them they're fired! [Roll Eyes]

    Peace and love kids!

'Twas a pleasure to meet you! Hey, are you checking out Vida Blue in Detroit this weekend? I'll be there supporting my man Page!

    See you around.

  5. I hate the feeling of my soggy drawers after I've been running around town in 30+degree temps all day!

I hate the feeling when I realize I'm running out of the dank!

When I was a kid, my favorite ice cream was Heavenly Hash (hey, when you're 7, you gotta party somehow!) but now I just go for a simple chocolate/vanilla swirl. Although, I'm more of a frozen yogourt dude these days.

I'd heard that story before from an interview with Bill Graham himself (can't remember where). Pretty cool for a guy who once rode into a NYE show on a huge joint! (way cooler than a hot dog, imho)

I'm sorry I missed that Bio. Please post if you see it's coming on again, thanks!

  8. It really doesn't matter if he's dead or alive. You can kill the man but not the idea. It's my opinion that the US strategically probably doesn't want him dead at this point, because that is perceived as the endgame, and if he turns up dead, where does the US go from there? (Probably anywhere they want, any way they want, given Bush's simplistic arrogant posturing on this subject: "you're either with us or you're for the terrorists". Eat me, George!)

Exactly, Trevor. Or at least, that is how the Bush team percieves its position, as I see it. Now, instead of learning a stark harsh lesson about the complexities of the relationship of the US hegemony to multiple but strong opposing international factions, Cowboy George has decided to dig deeper into his Judeo-Christian outlook and approach to settling these issues. Which is not helpful.

So, let's review Georgie's world: Iraq bad, Suadi Arabia good. China good, Cuba bad. Israeli leadership good and strong, Palestinian leadership bad and weak. All of these approaches are rooted in the economic and/or (Evangelical)-Christian based interests of the US. Don't be fooled into thinking Georgie has any base interest in promoting justice or peace. Not from a man who enthusiastically fried over a hundred of his Texan citizens while he was Guv'ner. Not when he can't even sign on to an International Criminal Court for fear international justice may expose his own country's failings.

These are obviously just my opinions and I'm fully aware and happy there will be plenty of disagreement.

    Now, back to Phish 4/4/98......

  9. Here's an obit:

    Yousuf Karsh

I had seen many of his portraits, but have to admit I had never realized they were all part of one man's (a Canadian of Turkish descent) portfolio. And you're correct to point out that Churchill photo, Jaimoe; very intense. You'll read that Kursh had all of two minutes to take that photo, and all he asked of Churchill was to remove his cigar from his face. Churchill was, apparently, unpleased.

  10. Hey hey, this is always a fun thread! Haven't bought many discs lately (I seem to go in waves) but here's what's been polluting the air space around our place lately:

The New Deal - 9.22.00 Hamilton Set II SBD

XTC - Apple Venus Vol I

Parliament - Tear The Roof Off (Best of)

Wilco - Yankee Foxtrot Hotel (I keep going back to it!)

Trey Band - 5.26.02 Mountain Aire Festival

I also broke out Nick Drake's "Pink Moon" lately. It's so beautiful, it's spooky!

Hey, just want to say I agree with your sentiment on an emotional level but feel compelled to add that knocking off Bin Laden and "his organization" only makes the world a SLIGHTLY safer place in the SHORT TERM. If only wiping out Al-Qaeda would leave this world a truly safe place! And to spend your resources and power trying to "off" an innumerable number of potential threats in the future is a foolish game, because the hunter can never catch all that prey. It seems insane to think that he could.

Better to boldly revise foreign policy approaches and consider all the options that haven't seemed feasible before due to invested oil interests and political maneouvering, combined with money and ego. That would be a good lesson to learn and would be a valuable outcome of 9/11 (of course, all of this is only my opinion!).

    But I don't think that's gonna happen.

Now, who's at the Fatties on Tuesday??

What a genius. Duh, maybe it's because the female human form is a beautiful, elegant and poignant piece of natural art whereas the male human form is a smelly, hairy, repulsive sack o' shit.

Great story, H, thanks for posting it. I recall seeing an ad in the Toronto Sun for one of these car washes going down in Etobicoke or somewhere, so they must happen from time to time.

And no, i didn't go! [Roll Eyes]

  13. Unfortunately, I walked around like this all night:

    -

and my head hurt me so so much. [Confused]

Still, a good time and a good show. Thought it would have been a little more packed, and I missed some familiar faces. Liked it when the girls got up on stage to grind each other during "Maracas". The look on Joel's face was worth the price of admission in itself!! The Casbah is a freakin' insane asylum sometimes!
