The Forecastle Festival is excited to announce the initial lineup for its 11th annual three-day music celebration, featuring Grammy Award winners The Black Keys, alongside The String Cheese Incident and The Avett Brothers leading the festival’s rich, eclectic offerings. The event will take place July 12 – 14, 2013 at Louisville’s scenic, award-winning Waterfront Park.

In addition to performances at Waterfront Park, the Forecastle Festival will feature late night shows on the historic Belle of Louisville steamboat and other landmark locations throughout downtown Louisville. Jam masters The String Cheese Incident will perform an exclusive, separately ticketed late night show at Louisville’s historic Palace Theater on Saturday, July 13.

Weekend passes for Forecastle 2013 will go on sale this Wednesday, March 6 at noon EST at Forecastlefest.com, Ticketmaster.com and all Ticketmaster outlets. Single day passes and late night show tickets, along with the daily schedule of artists and late-night events will be available in April.

  2. Thanks for this thread - some great listening ideas for me here.

My only addition to anything that's been mentioned is Jimmy Herring's new release entitled "Subject To Change Without Notice." It's jazzy, it's groovy, it rocks. All instrumental. Very tasty.

    Peace, Mark

  3. Confirmed: At 67 years young, Neil Young still rocks. Big time. I enjoyed his whole set, but my personal highlights from the night were Walk Like a Giant and Twisted Road. I'm glad I was familiar with his new material as I think it upped the experience for me. And last night once again confirmed why Neil is often referred to as the "godfather of grunge." Long may you run Neil.

    Peace, Mark

  4. People clan slag DSO for being a cover band or whatever, but I'll take 'em any day and hope they have continued success and play for many more years to come.

Agreed, they do an excellent job of "covering" the songs while making it sound fresh. I really enjoyed the Friday night show at the Town Ballroom in Buffalo.

    Peace, Mark

  5. What a killer show this was! Victor Wooten and his band blew my mind. In addition to stellar musicianship and sweet vocals, it was filled with positive energy and was fun to watch. I hope he tours with this group again in the future.

And Jimmy Herring was fantastic as well ... if you like heavy instrumental jammy jazz with awesome musicianship. Not as accessible for some as Victor's set but wow ... incredible musicianship. I'm also really enjoying his new record.

What a breath of fresh air this show was!

    Peace, Mark

  6. I've had great luck with Wind Mobile. I signed up last year around Christmas time for one of their holiday miracle plans for $40 per month which pretty much covers everything. My 15 year old son is on the same plan with no problems. And he texts a lot! At the time a similar plan with Telus was about $20 more per month. The key is that I am in a Wind zone most of the time (Kitchener and the other cities I visit) so I rarely pay extras. If I ever am outside of a Wind zone I turn off my data and only rely on my phone and text, which is still fairly cheap per text or per minute. It also works well in the USA and I find my calling or text rates in the USA are much cheaper than if I was with Telus.

The Wind network does go down more often than with Telus but then I am automatically switched to another carrier, and I haven't noticed that I've been dinged for extra charges because of this.

I'm a big fan of Wind Mobile but again, only if in a Wind zone most of the time. And I primarily use my phone for texting and talking rather than for accessing the Internet. But it seems to work fine when I do access the net.

    Peace, Mark

  7. On the somewhat surprisingly plus side there's more heads still pokin' around these parts than I was starting to figure. And hungry heads at that if they're willing to come out on a week night. And to the Opera House at that!

Agreed ... it's nice to see that their are still lots of heads around this part of the world willing to hit up a live show. I thought there was a strong possibility that this show would be sparsely attended, and I'm glad I'm wrong! I wish I could be there, but will get my fix in Buffalo the following two nights.

    Peace, Mark

  8. I would have WAY preferred to go to the local show...but the fact that was announced months later meant that I had already committed financially and to a friend for Toronto...shakes fist.

    Darn!

Mark - I look forward to seeing you there!

Right on Mike - it's been a while!

    Cheers, Mark
