  1. 18 in a row?! Whoa. At 40mins an episode, that's around 12 HOURS. Your eyes must've been hurtin' ;)

I have enjoyed 24, but last season kinda fell apart, IMHO. Hopefully it can save itself this year while Jack is a renegade/vigilante/crazymutherfucker with a vengeance.

watched all 9 "24" Season 3 DVDs (given to me as a xmas gift just as I was getting into it) consecutively taking only one break for sleep

quit watching 24 the beginning of last season and started into the Sopranos instead

    TV on DVD rules

(thanks for the heads up on the new season of Heroes... exciting!)

  2. As much as I kind of get a kick out of his mercurial temperament, it's beyond me why anyone should fear the wrath of an artist they're paying good money to see and support.

several fans of King Crimson told me that if someone yelled mid-song that there was a good chance Robert Fripp would get up and leave the stage, not to return... no soup for you

turned out had 2 20-year-olds sitting in front of me wearing Fripp shirts who kept jumping out of their seats non-stop shouting like it was their first time seeing the strippers... Fripp smiled a few times and played his ass off all night

now lobbing grapefruit at performers is a much more sure-fire method of getting a band off a stage

  3. self hypnosis can help you program yourself to sleep deeper or longer (on any given night) if you figure out how to work it... worth reading up on a little for interest's sake one way or the other

(had a stint with self hypnosis after reading an early nineties OMNI magazine about it... works, though can be a little weird to figure out at first)

  4. its apparently a lot easier and quicker to have your name officially changed if you're mistakenly included on the no-fly list in the U.S. than it is to try and have your name simply removed from the list by proving you don't belong on it (which is supposed to be near impossible)... was some 8 year old kid down there who had to change his name so he could visit both his parents living in different states after a typo put him on the list... gotta love that level of bureaucratic efficiency (Land of the Free!)

  5. thought "hey, maybe seeing Great Lake Swimmers out of town would be fun!" then realized its on the accursed SEPTEMBER 29th

    same day as:

the Fat Cats 15 year anniversary

    Backbacon's Diesel Dog Barn Party

    Wassabi in Toronto

hows bouts we spread these things out a little people!!!

  6. the whole thing is an each to their own situation

some formats of music lend themselves to being able to link up to a commercial format without damaging the image of the band and some don't... some bands are anti commercial and renting their music would shoot them in the foot by alienating their fan base... some bands are neutral on, or even embracing or the capitalist dream and can let their music promote goods and services with impunity, probably even drum up some extra business out of it

I personally have much more respect for bands who have a stable career who stay out of advertising mainstream commercial products (I really doubt Wilco faces any of the money problems that struggling musicians face, its more a little extra cake for the top of the cake pile)... if a band really is struggling I'd have more sympathy for them hawking their creative license some (just found out Lily Frost sold a song to Chevrolet, and think thats ok)... might be kind of cool to see some bands donate song rights to worthwhile charities like the World Wildlife Fund or to raise money for the people of Sudan or with aids or the like

amusingly, first thing I thought when I first heard a Wilco song was "sounds like good music for a commercial" ;)

  7. great reviews, sounds awesome... love Garth Hudson's keyboard "wizardry" - aptly put... guy's a genius

that whole crowd seem totally laid back when you come across the opportunity to converse with them... have spent a few afternoons chatting with Daniel running into him here and there in Hamilton... the first time he introduced himself by coming up to me in a bar in Hess Village and asking if I realized I had a big hole in the back of my lumber jacket perfectly shaped like a heart (coincidentally had personally just fallen into the love, the jacket ripped that way from a single rip from getting caught on the bar stools... which he thought was so great)... Garth is also really easy to talk to, if occasionally a little hard to understand

    thanks for the reviews

  8. well, would have to say a lot of people do the school or work thing between 1 and 2 pm on a Wednesday afternoon

in my opinion the ease of downloading tunes simply raised the bar for the recorded music industry... payback for all the albums I bought for top dollar growing up that had one good song on them and the rest of it turned out to be barely listenable... hopefully some better bands will get signed and the barrage of over produced no talents will subside
