  1. Great band. I love that a Canadian band likes to reinvent southern rock.
  2. I can't say I'm guilty of hyping Deadwood since it's a fucking incredible show and one of the best westerns ever filmed. Fact. Carnivale from HBO was a fantastic show, and creeeeeepy. The last season of Battlestar Galactica was a hit-or-miss affair. Some fans were pissed at the season, however Ron Moore (series creator) said that the new season will be more in lines with the excellent Razor one-off movie that came out just before Christmas. Razor is really, really good - as good as any of the best Galactica episodes. I too love Rescue Me. Garrity is the funniest fucker on TV. You know, it's not all about HBO, FX and Showtime. NBC, CBS, Fox and ABC have some excellent shows too - some old, some new (check out Pushing Daisies, the recently cancelled Journeyman with Kevin "Vorenus" McKidd, just to name a few). Also, the new Doctor Who is great... all the seasons actually. So was, for the most part, The Tudors from Showtime/BBC.
  3. I've also heard geek-led rumours that NBC will air Battlestar Galactica. I think they'll have to edit that show a bit, but I hope it airs on a regular network, in order.
  4. I want to see The Wire too. I think I'll have the time thanks to the writer's strike.
  5. Well, the HBO Rome isn't like that. However, it is one of best shows in recent memory. Vorenus, Pullo, Marc Antony etc... are amazing characters, as are the entire cast.
  6. I think Basher is a fish-eating vegetarian Brad.
  7. Showtime's Dexter comes to CBS on Sunday, February 17th. It will be severely edited, so no swearing, excessive bloodletting and nudity. I'd recommend renting the first season and go on from there. Also coming next week to History is HBO's Rome. I don't think History will edit the show too much, although there is a few scenes with full-frontal nudity. I love both series. Shows like this are a big part of why I think TV has surpassed movies, quality-wise - although the writer's strike should even things out once again.
  8. Or staying true to the topic, can you watch it without drinking?
  9. This is true. Some key plot points/mysteries in the series are explained in the movie. Aloha' date=' Brad[/quote'] Firefly is a great series. BradM is right about Fox screwing Joss Wheadon (series producer and writer) over. Serenity is a great closure to the Firefly legacy. I've been really close to buying the series for Booche on many occasions. Indeed Firefly is a western in space, as it was intended to be just that - also worth noting is that the series is true to actual space in that there is no sound when they are in the ship and space scenes. BTW, Joss Wheadon is a genius of a writer/director/producer: Buffy, Angel and Firefly are all his shows.
  10. not full crowdies' date=' but i bet this'll be good. Tim Finn Feb 7 08 The Courthouse Toronto [/quote'] I doubt you'll hear old Crowded House since Finn was only on their latter career "Woodface" LP and tour and was only really a part-time member. However, look out for lots of Split Endz and Finn Brothers material.
  11. My wife is in Environmental Studies/Urban Studies at U of T and I envy her. I think job prospects are far better now than they were back in the early 90's thanks in part to the environmental aspect. I'm a staunch urbanist and I think I'll have to follow the little man talking repeatedly in my head to follow my passions regarding rejuvenation and healthy cities... not to mention trying to make suburbia more livable and less car dependant.
  12. Here's a kickass version of "Don't Dream It's Over" from the Live Earth concert I raved about:
  13. I remember when Crowded House did a live acoustic set at MuchMusic back in the early 90's and Neil ripped through a couple of impressive solos. I hated him for that at the time.
  14. Joking aside, I do know how to use a computer, fairly well in fact. I'm just not big on downloading/streaming etc... Philosophically it's not my thing.
  15. I just checked it out. Thanks. I'm thinking that I probably can't do a program, but I may be able to take some online courses or volunteer, like say for Heritage Toronto or something like that. Maybe Stephen Lewis is hiring?
  16. I envy you New Rider. I want to go back to school but I can't quit my job. I want to change careers, from TV broadcasting to urban planning with a minor in environmental studies, however I'm at the point where it's looking like I'm too old.
  17. Maybe Gamache got Spengler Cup fever.
  18. I believe the HD PBS channels are a week ahead of standard PBS. Also, PBS is a little unreliable with its scheduling.
  19. I've found Leaf games this year to be either hilarious and/or boring for the most part. Last night's game was really good. It was hard-nosed, intense and fast... and the team I wanted to win, did (although they didn't deserve it). And Derian Hatcher was a force, even if he almost killed both Lupul and Steen at the same time. If you don't feel for Carlo Colaiacovo incredible run of bad luck, then you have no soul. The close-up of good-guy Jim Dowd's face as he watched Carlo being helped off the ice after he accidently went knee-to-knee with the defenseman said it all.
  20. You were watching a different affiliate. Crowded House was on the HD PBS channels.
  21. Tell Douglas that not everything has to sound like Poison and Motley Crue. You did get screwed over, but PBS plays the hell out of Austin City Limits so you'll be able to catch the show later this week. I missed it too - too many good games last night.
  22. I believe the TSN website streams the game live.
  23. I saw Crowded House's complete set at the Live Earth festival in July. It was excellent. Crowded House's set was the second best at the entire 24 hour festival (IMO) next to Wolfmother, with The John Butler Trio tied for third with The Beasties. Give it up for Australia!! Anyway, Crowded House unveilded some excellent new material and their creative rejuvenation spilled-out to their live show, which delivered the hits and jamed-out like muthers.
  24. From what I've gathered over the years, Wally was an enigma of sorts - in good and bad ways - but I'll admire him for his dedication to The Joe Show. His brand of folk music was actually pretty good in a gruff, stripped down way. R.I.P. Wally. http://www.thewhig.com/ArticleDisplay.aspx?e=842522&auth=Ian+Elliot
