  1. I can't believe they are buying his lies, even if Peddie tried to come off as an honest man with the Rob Babcock story regarding the Carter deal.
  2. My friend is in a few dart leagues and is an excllent player - he plays 6 times a week - but he ain't never going to be or beat Darth Maple. Pick another sport. How about dressage, trap-shooting or the middle rider on a box-sled? What about being a fat coxen? Better yet, try emmigrating to Jamaica and trying out for luge.
  3. The Purple Hill myspace page says that they are playing "backroom of the Tranzac". So I think the Good Rev show will go on as planned. It should be a crazy fun night.
  4. [blurb] PURPLE HILL CD RELEASE PARTY: i was born to flesh 26/01/2008 Where: The Trazac (backroom), Brunswick Avenue just south of Bloor, Toronto, Ontario Cost: $10 Along with the night's featured band and the official release of i was born to flesh, the supporting acts on the bill are pretty kick-ass in their own right, making for a fantastic night of music: Timber Timbre, Bruce Peninsula, Love Anna, and Krista Hartman. It will be an early show due to the noise curfew. The show will start shortly after seven and finish up around midnight![/blurb] Jaimoe here. I'm really looking forward to PURPLE HILL's CD release party for their second album, i was born to flesh, at The Tranzac in Toronto this Saturday, January 26th. Originally, Purple Hill was a cosmic-country and freaky-folk solo side-project for From Fiction's spastic bassist Owen Marchildon, however it's now his primary focus - not including Marchildon's other recent side-project Rough Skeletons (read my CD review ). Because of the unfortunate and untimely demise of his former indie hard rock band a few years back, Purple Hill has become a full-blown band effort with Marchildon still the leader/singer and principle songwriter, fleshed out by a more permanent band featuring veterans of the Toronto indie folk and alt-country scenes including fellow Rough Skeletons guitarist/sound effects/space cadet Paul Shepherd on keyboard, John Paul Allen on bass, Jordan Bruce on drums, Scott Maynard on guitar, piano and vocals, violinist Fiona Stewart, Kaili Glennon on vocals and Paul Mortimer on lap-steel guitar. i was born to flesh expands upon old-school country, Gram Parsons-era Byrds and psychedelic rock themes heard on their low-fi self-titled 2005 release (read my review here), adding some heavy Velvet Underground tweaks, lonesome folk, alt country rock and unpredictable instrumental journeys. I love this freaking band!! I'll be there early and I hope some of you can make it. Marchildon and Purple Hill are on the cusp of something great and this album will sure make some ripples in the thriving indie alt-rock and roots communities in Canada. January 23/08
  5. If you go to the Purple Hill CD release party this Saturday at The Tranzac in T.O., I'll give you the promo album.
  6. I wrestled with the idea of writing a review of the Frisell album, but I don't think I could give it a fair shake. I lean towards hating it. I was going to send it to Booche since he's a big fan.
  7. I was going to write a review of that disc - bouche sent it to me months ago - but I disliked it, much to my astonishment.
  8. And you'll see it. The movie has been in the can for a little while now and is in post-production. Heath had just started working on a film with Terry Gilliam. I know... hence the use of the word 'am' Ah, I see. I was on another website and some folks there were wondering about the status of the new Batman flick. Websites collide!
  9. And you'll see it. The movie has been in the can for a little while now and is in post-production. Heath had just started working on a film with Terry Gilliam.
  10. The try-out episodes make for entertaining TV, so tonight should be fun.
  11. Heath Ledger Found Dead in NYC By TOM HAYS – 9 minutes ago NEW YORK (AP) — Heath Ledger was found dead Tuesday at a downtown Manhattan residence, and police said drugs may have been a factor. He was 28. NYPD spokesman Paul Browne said Ledger had an appointment for a massage at the Manhattan apartment believed to be his home. The housekeeper who went to let him know the masseuse had arrived found him dead at 3:26 p.m. The Australian-born actor was nominated for an Oscar for "Brokeback Mountain," where he met his wife, actress Michelle Williams, in 2005. Ledger and Williams had lived in Brooklyn and had a daughter, Matilda, until they split up last year. Ledger was to appear as the Joker this year in "The Dark Night," a sequel to 2005's "Batman Begins." He's had starring roles in "A Knight's Tale" and "The Patriot," and played the suicidal son of Billy Bob Thornton in "Monster's Ball." Ledger grew up in Perth, and began doing amateur theater at age 10. At 16, he moved to Sydney to pursue an acting career, quickly landing TV movie roles and guest spots on Australian television. After several independent films and a starring role in the short-lived Fox TV series "Roar," Ledger moved to Los Angeles and costarred in "10 Things I Hate About You," a teen comedy reworking of "The Taming of the Shrew." Offers for other teen flicks came his way, but Ledger turned them down, preferring to remain idle than sign on for projects he didn't like. "It wasn't a hard decision for me," Ledger told the Associated Press in 2001. "It was hard for everyone else around me to understand. Agents were like, `You're crazy,' my parents were like, `Come on, you have to eat.'" His latest role was in "I'm Not There," in which he played one of the many incarnations of Bob Dylan — as did Cate Blanchett, whose performance in that film earned an Oscar nomination Tuesday for best supporting actress.
  12. I think I responded to you as Booche would have, but more gently
  13. He lives in Ottawa. The hockey world doesn't revolve around Toronto. Go Bruins.
  14. The bold print above from dave-O is new signature material.
  15. And "No Country for Old Men" just got nominated for Best Picture at this year's Oscars, as did "Juno", "There Will Be Blood", "Atonement" and "Michael Clayton". I'm really excited that Once was recognized with the nomination of "Falling Slowly" in the Best Original Score category.
  16. "Falling Slowly" has been nominated for Best Original Song at the upcoming Oscars.
  17. However, we need a catcher that can also throw-out base-stealers from 1st to 2nd. Toronto has never had a catcher that could do that. Ernie had a bad arm.
  18. I was disappointed with "Hot Fuzz". Still, I love Simon Pegg. "The Lives of Others" is a fantastic film as is "Once" (obviously). I enjoyed "Sicko" and the newest "Harry Potter" and "Ratatouille". I really want to see "No Country for Old Men", "Juno" and "Away from Her".

  20. Katie Holmes describes her 20-month-old baby girl Suri as such: "She's a very strong woman". The loon parents are perfect for each other.
  21. Hear Hear ... I loved that movie. Got completely mesmerized by it one night staying up late watching it by myself. Stunning visuals and a very unique film. I gotta watch it again sometime when the time is right. And it was Robert Mitchum's last film. A fitting swansong.
  22. Oil as a subject matter can be interesing Mike: Giant with James Dean and Rock Hudson is a classic. There Will Be Blood flirts with the modern western genre, and that genre has been excitingly and successfully resurrected: The Proposition, No Country for Old Men, The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada and even Dead Man (fucking brilliant allegorical masterpiece). A couple of other great newer westerns are Seraphim Falls (with Pierce Brosnan and Liam Neeson), Open Range, Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee and 3:10 to Yuma.
