  1. plannin a trip to the library today. Now that exams are over it is time to catch up on some reading i've been neglecting. I can't think of anything particular that i want to read so i figured i'ld ask for a few suggestions. just to get the ball rolling I'ld recommend Barney's Version by Mordecai Richler. a pretty good read by a Canadian author.

  2. Yeah we dropped by to annoy your entire household with a late night visit. Sloth and Howler loved the wake up call as well. Jyll and i both finished our exams and proceeded to get nicely toasted. She felt the need to say a few goodbyes at a rather inappropriate hour. Hope we didn't bug you too much. If i can find a partner in crime i may take you up on the offer of borrowing the frisbee. thanx man!

  3. Just finished my last exam last night and really don't feel like looking for a job today. So who (in ottawa)wants to blow an hour or 2 this afternoon and toss a frisbee? someone who actually owns a frisbee would be preferable.

  4. Not a huge fan of the anti-american rant. But on the topic of big box stores i gotta say that those stores damage the community. Sure they hand out paychecks to canadians...minimum wage paychecks. But what you don't see is the small business owner who can't make it cuz he can't afford to buy in mass quantities and sell that broom for $3 less. So instead of a neighbour owning a store, paying taxes and improving the community, you get a big box store, who's profits go to stock holders (the big money goes to u.s. execs),who employ lots of mcworkers (who can't afford to shop anywhere else)and who have shut down the independant music store, book store, hardward store, grocery store and sports store. this can gut a thriving downtown community and increases suburbia and mall culture in general

The only way we can keep our community and culture diverse is to be a smart consumer. Make the decision to not save $2 at Walmart and help keep your neighbour's store open. Every purchase counts and everything we consume is a decision. It's tough to practice what I'm preaching, but whenever possible try to avoid the franchises, go to farmers markets. Find great furniture at antique shops or garage sales. Try and find unique clothing instead of becoming an old naby drone. Look at tags and see where your clothing was made. Think before you buy and try and make every purchase help the community. It's gotta start somewhere, why not with me and you.

  5. BB- sorry 'bout the bad luck brotha. You definately get the pity vote for the toaster award. Sounds like your night got lots crazier after we dropped you off. I gotta say i'm impressed you held on to the toaster for the whole roller-coaster evening (or should i say morning). It's a shame you didn't report the credit card stolen right away. It might have been nice to have seen those bastards get a little instant karma when they tried to use it. Shit can only go up from here man.

Indika was stumbly by 1:30...would have liked to have seen him at 7am...toasted, nicely toasted.

  6. The race for the toaster was a heated battle last night. there were a few strong contenders. Local fav Davey-boy had some serious competition from Indika and BB, who was drowning his sorrows with vigor after running into some bad luck early on in the evening. Jyll, who was supposed to be working, decided to make a run for the coveted prize instead. Staff prices and goodbye bevies gave her a definate advantage over the rest of the heat. I myself was a late entry and despite valiant efforts to catch up, I was never a serious contender. In the end, as everyone stumbled out of the bar, it was BB who was holding the toaster (after almost forgetting it at the bar).

oh yeah, the band was pretty good. Much better then the last time i saw them. fun night. Good effort from the whole crew.

  7. thanx for the link!! I've listened to it all the way through and I'm loving it. I'm gonna have to put on a set of headphones get mellow and really absorb this album to fully appreciate it. I think its cool that Trey is putting the whole thing on-line to listen to.

  8. Enjoy the last day chained to the desk! We'll miss your posts round these parts, but not as much as we'll miss yer beats. have a wicked tour. Good luck with everything ('specially the bus, hope the fear doesn't grip you too bad.)

  9. I hate to sound like an Americain news commentator from CNN but that is exactly what Sept.11 was all about. Brining the fear and insecurity into your country (well, actually the U.S., but hell, like it or lump it we are tied in to Uncle Sam) The mid-east lives with fear of death and terrorism and religous intolerance every day and Sept 11 just gave us a taste of what it might be like. Of course it could just be a right wing government plot to test out some new weapons in Afghanistan (those Bush boys just love a good war, don't they...sure does boost the ratings).

  10. Man, this issue puts knots in my stomach. When Israel was created after WWII it seemed like an idea that would never work. Put a Jewish state smack in the middle of Arab territory, which is considered one of the most sacred pieces of real estate by 3 major religions. If the U.S. hadn't backed Israel, their neighbours would have killed them off years ago. Hard liners on both sides have just refused to back down and eventually something has got to give. Israel needs to get out of the West Bank but on the other side of the coin...man, state sponsored terrorism makes for a real nervous and millitaristic Israel. If there were suicide bombings every other day in the U.S. or even Canada you could be damn sure our millitary would be on the offensive. I really don't know where to stand on the issue cuz both sides have a point and both sides are also being totally unflexible. Scary shit. A forced truce and forced compromise (meaning UN(read us))may well be the only solution, and not a good one at that. The mid-east has been a powder-keg that is going to blow sooner or later...the question, in terms of world securtiy,is sooner better then later?

    just my confused 2 cents.

  11. hey booche- the only time i saw DOY was at the CoZo a year or 2 ago. I think they opened for one of the regular Wed. night bands (Fat Cats or Caution Jam) and i have to say, they stunk the place up big (and y'all know how bad the Zone smells to begin with). Like I said i'll be going in with an open mind hopin for some good tunes.

Brad, new downtown digs are a good thing...I hate getting my ass home way late at night (or early in the am, like after 4/20-drunken 6:30 am skateboard ride down Bank St. lookin' for a cab who will drive my wasted ass home!). Where you livin'?

And clean shaven or not, i'm gunnin for that toaster! Bring the ruckus mutha fuckas.

  12. Another fine week of shows indeed. I'm looking forward to the Bayou tomorrow and i'll probably hit DOY. Last time I saw them I wasn't very impressed but it could have been an off night. Most of the kids on this board know their music so if they come highly recommended then I gots to give'em another chance. What's the deal at Deckuf tonight?

And as if I haven't won a toaster yet. I've been training long and hard, i've come close a few nights but i've yet to win that elusive prize. I'm due soon i can feel it.

  13. Yeeeeeeaaahh! 2-0. All the Cnd teams are doing great with one glaring exception. Think Ottawa can actually score a goal tonight? I've also noticed those Red Wing fans have been a little quiet lately.
