  1. I was at Barrymore's for the first time a week ago to see the pink floyd tribute. Sweet venue!! There is all kinds of different balcony levels so I'm sure you can find a spot to set up shop...probably near the sound board if they are cool with that. I'm looking forward to seeing this show. See you there!

  2. that show was pretty fun. I had kind of forgotten about it 'till a friend played it at her place a couple of days ago. that tune Jenifer Dances was busted out at that show. It's not a bad tune but it seems like the boys dropped it pretty quickly. I can probably get her to burn you a copy for when you play the Bayou.

I too have been searching for a phish show. 12.29.97 from MSG. It was my second show and I had a blast. I've never heard the tapes so if any of you kind souls reading this can hook me up, it would be greatly appreciated!! thanx

  3. Saw this thread and had to bite. My first show was The Palace of Auburn Hills 12.6.97. I had been listening to Phish for about 3 years while smoking the kind at a friend's place and was pretty familiar with their tunes. But wow...that first show kicked my ass like nothing else. The first set was fantastic with Antelope, Maze a Gin.

But it was the second set that the funk kicked in and my life was changed. Tweezer>Izabella>Twist>Piper!!!! Wow and wow. That was the highest I have ever felt without the use of drugs. A few weeks later I was driving to NYC to catch part of the New Years run. Most of my vacations, New Years plans and much of my waking moments have revolved around the band. Too much fun travelling coast to coast, north and south, meeting so many great people along the way. Damn I miss the boys. There are tons of great bands out there today and the "scene" has never been stronger...but I really miss Phish. I hope that they come back after hiatus energized and enthused to play the music we all love...Can't wait to see what new directions they will be exploring.

  4. Damn you Brad for booking this great week of shows during one of my busiest weeks of school!! If I had any sense of responsiblity I would be at home studying and writing essays instead of partying and getting down at these shows. But being as I am me (irresponsible as hell)...I'll be at most of the shows.

  5. last night was pretty groovy. Stairwell K is a great band. I can't beleive that this band is from Ottawa and no one in the jambased community knew about them!!! The lead singer has a great voice, a little cheese but nothing over the top. He sounds a lot like Jay Kay from Jamiroqua without biting his style too hard. The funk was laid down thick and of course the Cafe Dekcuf is such a sweet spot to see a show. Thanks Double B for introducing us to yet another great band. Stairwell K, Jambolaya, Beau Dixon's band (i forget their name)...keep'em coming!!!

  6. i feel your pain treyter. These guys weren't at all on the psychedelic tip, but all the same they had an interesting groove and could lay it down thick. Every member of the band has some skillz but they could obviously have taken a few jams into some far crazier places then they did. Plus, while the jams may not have come to a crazy head, they were laying some slick licks throughout the funk. just my thoughts.

  7. Good times last night. Nero laid down a couple of phatty sets. Really enjoyed the Peaches. Dekcuf is a sweet venue, great sound, great vibe just all round goodness. I'm still feelin a little pain from all the festivities...it got a little sloppy after set break wink.gif" border="0 all part of the fun. Nice to party down with a few new faces. By the way, if anyone runs into a girl at Ottawa shows who tells you her nickname is JP ,make sure to ask her what it stands for...funny shit!

  8. I've heard nothing but great things about this festival. I have lots of friends who have been, but I've yet to make it. I agree that the jam and electronic scene should make the effort to meld a little more. Nothing but interesting music and a more diverse group of like minded heads could result. Om is usually a 3 day party with lots of love and communal themes (including vegan kitchens where you pay what you can). The festival seems to be just small enough to stay under the legal and bad vibe radar.

  9. I have to agree with H. Since moving to Ottawa a few months back this page has been a great way to find out about all the local shows, rides to shows, parties as well as tons of info about lots of great bands I might not otherwise have checked out. Although I'm a bit more of a lurker then I probably should be I just want to say thanks to Mike for having this sight. I love the local flavour and I enjoy meeting all the kids who are on this board when we hit shows.

A larger, all canadian sight is a nice idea but I'm not sure how that would work as a cohesive on-line community that actually gets together in real world communities to see and support the music scene as well as have a hell of a good time.

  10. Yeah, Galactic was a wicked-good time and the Balcany was a sweet place to enjoy the show. Stanton Moore is the man on the drum kit. Fully enjoyed the funk but could have done with out Houseman. Lots of great friends and tons of familiar faces helped to make for a sweet eve. Thanks for the ride BB! Phunky B, sweet seeing you again. Good vibes and good times.

  11. Lately I've been digging the new Moe live disc Warts and All. As always I seem to have an abundance of Phish '97 in the cd player including 12.6.97, 11.22.97. Been listening to a little Johnny Prine (on the advice of some kids from this board...thanx) and Nancy Griffith- Other Voices, Other Rooms. Lately on the electronic tip I've been digging some of the older LTJ Bookem stuff and Dub Tribe's Bryant Street for a little west coast electofunk.

On vinyl I've discovered this Santana and Buddy Miles disc. It has no real title (my friend picked it up used so there were no liner notes) but man it's the goods.

    peace

  12. Just wondering if anyone from T-dot checked out the Al Schneir show at the Comfort Zone on Tuesday? I really wanted to go but my schedule wouldn't allow it. Give me some news here kids. Sounded like a pretty different kind of evening. I love all of Al's textured wierd shit he does with Moe. so I'm curious what his solo stuff is like.

  13. If you are into the laid back techno feel of dj food etc. i'ld have to recommend Kruder and Dorfmeister...some really chill but incredibly groovy techno. Their album "the kruder and dorfmeister sessions" is one of my all time favs to kick back to and mellow out when i'm trying to chill but still riding the groove from a hard night of partying. I'ld also recommend Dub Tribe's album Bryant Street. So funky and just all round wicked. Probably my favourite album for sexin'(that maybe a little more info necessary, but true). All the Mushroom Jazz series are pretty fun tunes as well.
