  1. Nice Job double B... keep'em comin'! Looks like we can look forward to lots more fun in the near future. I'm hopin drums'n'tuba works out cuz that is a band I'm real curious about. I gotta say that i'm already missin' Deckuf. Something should be done to work out whatever differences may exist cuz it is way too sweet a room to let go of.

  2. Hey Howler,

I was just going over some biz contacts and I found a card from a girl who mentioned that she does t-shirts. Their company is called Generation Promotions & Design. The name is Yazmin Silver and her contact info is yaz.silver@gdpcanada.com. Phone (613)565-5888 and they are located at 371B Somerset St. West.

Hope this can help you out! -j

  3. Man, ever since I saw the line up I've just been imagining all the special guests and collaborations that are bound to go down. This I'm sure is gonna be massive with too much good music to choose from. I have mixed emotions about the big-ass festivals but let's hope they do this right and it goes off well.

Anyone else up for a side trip to Graceland?

  4. Not bad. If i'm in the mood for country, which happens from time to time i'll look into these cats. Can you recommend any other good folk country albums i should listen to. I've been digging lots of John Prine, Johnny Cash, Woody Guthrie and Nancy Griffith just to give you an idea of the style i'm looking for. thanx

ps. Nancy Griffith's album Other Voices/Other Rooms has been a staple in my rotation for a few years now...If you haven't checked it out i'ld have to recommend it.

  5. Hey Man,

I have a nephew who is 15 and is just starting to "get" the whole Phish thing. He's always after me to make him a mixed tape but I prefer to give him whole shows. It's kind of a way to let songs that you might not like at first grow on you. I know it took me a while to warm up to a lot of the phish eccentricities which I now love dearly.

I always play a newbie a killer YEM, may I suggest the one with Santana from 7.25.92. Throw on the Llama and the Funky Bitch as well. I usually try to include a Gamehenge tune or two as well so go for the AC/DC Bag from Boise, 9.14.99 or the one to open set II 8.9.98. Any version of Cavern with horns is always a good thing.

And of course ya gots to throw in some funk...I'm thinking fall 97...the palace, 12.6.97...Tweezer>Izabella. Throwing on a ASZ is always cool to cuz the newbies recognize the theme but the groove is new to them

If you have 11.22.97 i feel you really owe it to the kid to burn him a copy of the whole show. you gotta pass the funk on to the next generation.

Hope this gives you a few ideas

  6. Nice work on the mag! I couldn't help but be surprised at a few bands that weren't mentioned, namely Grand Theft Bus, Downtime and of course Burt Nielson Band. No doubt these bands will be covered in future issues but I was surprised that they were barely mentioned in the cherry issue. These three bands are definately in the top 5 Canadian jambands on the scene (depending on if you count The New Deal as part of the scene). Lots of talk about Caution Jam who are an average cover band on their best nights. All in all a great read and i'm looking forward to reading the next issue.

ps. the article on Neil Young summed up my feelings perfectly.

pps. Downtime's bass player should definately be on the olympic roster. Same with BNB's keyboard player.

  7. I haven't heard any rumours about this show at all. Where can I hear more about this supposed show (apart from waiting 8 days)? If half of those bands you mentioned show up then I'm gonna have to make the hike. How far is Tennessee?

  8. How was this show Weezy? I've heard some of Farheed Haque's Blue Note album where he covers CSNY's Deja Vu. This guy was playing all the different vocal harmonies on his guitar...very impressive. I'm looking forward to hearing your report.
