  1. i've been loving Vampire Weekend as well NewRider...kinda like clash and paul simon sitting in with the eels...it's my bedouin soundclash this winter -

also just got into el-p 'i'll sleep when you're dead' and it's very cool - hard hitting hiphop but very dense production...

and UNKLE's 'War Stories' is genius, even if it has that dude from the Cult on it.

  2. wow that was great - nice surprise that it went off without a hitch - Highlights would be Attack in Black(rocking!) Shoutoutoutout with the beats, Zaki Ibrahim was killer, Xavier was kicking, the lighting was great, lotsa good bands - no hassles to be had. that's a quick braindead afternoon wrapup...

Best part was walking home(9 minutes!) to have a couple beers mid-day, then coming back and only missing 1/2 hour!

  3. I was just there for sound check - it's a wicked setup, big stage at one end and 'island' stage in the middle - totally open stage, the lights and sound system make it look like the freaking Stones are going to play there....

  4. I freaking love Bottom!! I loved Young Ones as well but Bottom is facking hilarious...Too bad Drop Dead Fred sucked so bad, Rik Mayall is comic gold! and Adrian Edmonson too!

Gotta jump on the Mighty Boosh, that's a few times I've heard it pop up...

  5. Yup - great show - I was graced with the honour of a mittful of guestpasses....working in entertainment is slowly showing it does have a couple perks!

Great show - lotsa Deloused tracks, Amputechture was killer - show started at 9pm and ended at 11:15 - probably a total of 2 minutes of stagebanter and downtime!! And yeah, that drummer pummeled his kit - at one point they were dispelling a myth that he had a double kick pedal - I cannot believe he can drum that fast!!

As for the recording - They did a Pro-stools multi-track of the whole show - I was jib-jabbing with the soundguy and they are recording the whole tour...might be an album out of it.

  6. For me it's been a couple Stills songs - 'You Can Talk Your Way Out' and 'Destroyer' which are conveniently back to back on the CD version even...

That and Butthole Surfers 'Edgar' from Independent Worm Saloon - fack what great geetar work...and produced by John Paul Jones taboot!

  7. or you could post your plight on the holmes on holmes forum...

...be prepared to be told you should have a permit for this....i think you need one for the most minor of plumbing.

But the diy r' not site says it's financially in your favour...

  8. Even better the new electrical code requires that all smoke detectors are powered by AC not batteries (buy the ones with battery backup anyways) and wired together so when one goes off on one floor, they all go off....very smart.

  9. There was a real flash around 1970 - soon as he parted ways with the Mothers...Hot Rats/Flo and Eddie era really brought out some cool guitar work. 74-76 were great years simply because his band was so kick ass and forced him to be on top of his game...then another flash around 78-79, the Halloween runs and a band full of weirdos(and the first 'stunt' guitarist, Adrian Belew) that he could play off

  10. Really it's like Tool and Radiohead sat in with Buena Vista Social Club instead of Ry Cooder. Or maybe Santana and King Crimson drop acid together. Could simply be the multi-disc soundtrack to the Spanish Inquisition.

Challenging shit sure enough but very musical and hammered home with intense production....mixed by Rich Costey(my new favourite producer/engineer...Wolfmother, Muse, Franz Ferdinand, Interpol) it's very sonic - lotsa trickery, dynamics and ear candy.

'Amputechure' is solid, the pounding horns and guitar licks in 'Viscera Eyes' demand volume-cranking. 'Frances the Mute' is laced with wacko Latin references and has a crazy nested song structure and recurring themes ta boot. 'Deloused in the Comatorium' just facking rocks.

They are playing Monday Jan 21st at the Phoenix...new album out soon. Might have to go see them...
