  1. Funny this topic should come up.... Northern Wish and I were having a chuckle over this one a few months ago, I've got a few weird ones my friends have dug up for me...

    Here's me as a surfer

    Here's my Blues Band

Here's my arch nemesis that actually LIKES DMB

But this by far is the strangest one....

It's actually my poem, I wrote it in 11th Grade for Wired Writers forums-somehow this German website saw fit to use it for the introduction to their website...It's a strange world...

    Cheers,

    Eric

  2. ok-I've just been talking to the manager/booking agent of the Bomber (U of Waterloo) and he gave me some ideas-actually he's looking to book bands this summer and I passed along your email so you'll probably hear from him-

Anyways-first things first make sure all your shit works. These guys are really looking to see what bands have their stuff together-they want a trouble free night of entertainment with an experienced band so they have no hassles and headaches. That means all gear should be ready to go. These guys aren't A&R-they just wanna know you'll pack the place and people will get very drunk while you play. So I'd cram as many pictures of crowds of people at your shows as possible on the background. Lots of bands play all over Canada, make them see that you bring in a crowd.

Don't make it look like a science fair project-use materials instead of construction paper and shit-get someone to carve your name out of wood then make a giant hemp string that goes across the top with the letters N-E-R-O on it....or maybe those alphabet blocks you had as a kid or something. Surf the net for trade show stuff and you'll probably skim some good ideas from corporate trade show pictures. Stick a computer in there with all your tunes mp3'ed and cued up....so you can just click on a tune to play it. Buy a set of these speakers to put in your booth to draw people over (www.minipod.com) Get some video footage on the computer as well, hell, get someone to dump your website on there so it's fully functional but not on the net. Burn a whole bunch of one-offs of CD's (live tunes? couple songs off the album? some new material?) to give away-give one to every friggin person that walks by your booth, even if they are in other bands...play some of your more catchy stuff, lots of these guys aren't music guys-merely booking agents.

    Whew...that should help...

  3. Sometimes the phase differences and subsequent 'comb-filter' effect can be fixed by simply using the phase flip button...it will either say 'phase' or have a '0' with a slash through it. Not all preamps have them but you can do it manually by flipping pins 2 and 3 on each mic cables XLR connector-you can get adapters to do this or make some small cables that are just for this purpose...they can come in VERY handy.

Otherwise, use a trick they do in live sound for speaker stacks out further in the crowd-use a digital delay to change the time position of one source against the other-in this case it would be one set of mic's delayed in time against the other set. Use a clean stereo delay, no feedback, no modulation of any kind, and a setting between 5 and 100 msec...as you adjust the delay time you'll hear the sound changing...it's like a phaser only you are manually moving the 'phasing' sound. You'll hit a spot that just sounds good, the bass will be full and not scooped out....

It's not as complicated as it sounds, does require a bit of practice and some set up time tho...

Also, this is only if you are mixing all the sources down to 2 tracks while you are recording...if you're recording to some sort of multitrack then you could just move the sources in the timeline later....

  4. Hmmmm... I remember being scared senseless during Amityville Horror and the draggin body-bag scene in Nightmare on Elm St. 1....but I'd have to say that 'The Changeling' scared the shit out of me-that part near the end where the lady goes into the creepy mansion to the hidden room up in the attic, with the "John, is that you? I don't want to come up there" and the wheelchair turns around and chases her down the steps. Shit-yer-pants scary that was.

I love horror movies though, from Campy(Evil Dead 1) to gross(Dead Alive) to crazy (Hellraiser 1) to crappy (Redneck Zombies)

  5. The luxurious suites (and sweets) of the jewel of Kitchener, Castle Wilhelm, played host to the band Nero this weekend.

Though 6 hours of shiftwork-esque internet time interspersed with bongs and naps may not an ideal weekend make, I'd hardly call it 'Tour Hell'

    A lawsuit is pending....

    --------------------------------------

Just kidding... these guys had more downtime than...well, 'Downtime' has...i guess. I dunno, it sounded funnier in my head. Anyways the bus is running and they are all on their way home as I type. Fantastic show with Jomomma soon to be released!! Some of those segue's are incredible! grin.gif" border="0

  6. yeah- i didn't exactly mean to inspire hours of quiet meditation... c'mon people blurt it out! Enough of you guys know yer shizbit you should be able to ring off 5 songs apiece!

Hell, i'm sure some of you know the brand of toiletpaper each member likes best, maybe even their inner seam length. This one should be easy!

  7. Gotta couple recording projects coming up this spring and I need to do some warm up work:

i have a proposition: A while ago I made some mixed discs of Phish tunes....I mean really mixed....I wanted to make the seques between songs as unnoticeable as possible(it's a challenge!) and recreate the flow so as not to distract me or any other listener from the music itself. Well after several attempts I have the hang of it and I want to try my hand 'remixing' some CD's of Phish tunes...

I'm not going to actually 'remix' the songs by changing them, but rather build a CD of tunes and redo how the tracks segue into one another...I can change the key they are jamming in, the speed, overlay parts, etc to make tunes flow from one to the next.

I'd make each of these CD's one CD long. For now, I'll pick one that looks like it has the most potential...

1.The Superset- your fave versions of songs from any date/any year.

2.The Funk Mix- any date/year-fave funk stuff (eg: meat, gotta jiboo, meatstick, boogie on, moma, etc...even a funk jam in a song)

3.The Year Flip- Take your favourite set from a given year. Recreate it with the same tunes from a different year/tour.

4.The Mike's Extenda Groove- Take a typical Mike's Groove lineup. Take each song from a different show and rebuild the Mike's Groove. Variations could include using the same tour exclusively or different years even.

Of course if there's songs/segues that should be included as one big piece then that's acceptable too....as well as funk jams within songs.

So I think it would be fun to get suggestions from you guys since we're all in this together(and we love to take a bath)

    Here's what's helpful:

Tell me which of those CD's sounds most appealing to you. Maybe you even have suggestions for the whole thing or just a few tunes-anything and everything comes in handy.

Now-If we can get connected online-let's make this all really easy and let me download the tracks from you that you suggest. Maybe someone you know on Direct Connect has them-at the very minimum I can search for the suggestions on DC. These discs will be realized a lot faster if I spend the time working on them and not searching out the tracks I need. I don't need to DL everything you suggest, and i have a whack of Phish SHN's kicking around here so I'll have to figure out what I would need and then we could go from there. Just food for thought.

Soundboards/DNK shows are preferred for their superior sound(hey if yer gonna do it right...)

    ------------------------------------

    And just so ya know;

I'm a huge phan and in no way am I trying to alter Phish's work. I'm sure I'll piss off a purist or two but hey, even Phish plays songs that I don't necessarily like. What I'm trying to say is to each his own. If you don't like it, don't listen!

  8. more and more stuff is coming up dank - the soundboards are few and far between but usually it's the crowd noise that is hardest to match so they are ideal. Just recently Rochester 12-11-97 came out(what a show!) which is cool cause I hardly even remember being there...a blur of stickers and flailing and teachers with contraband.

The Dead one you are thinking of is Plunderphonics by John Owsley(i think)--that one moment when 52 Jerry Garcia's sing 'darkkkkkkstarrrrrr....' is mind-numbing.

Something similar yet phish related-i've been toying with this notion for awhile, just gotta get everything in the studio up and online!

Even stuff like the Island run in 98 and 12-29/30 97 have gems, maybe someone has kick-ass copies of these...
