  1. Here's some goodies trev...

    James Brown:Funk Power 1970,Polydor

-with Bootsy/Catfish Collins, huge funked-out versions of his best stuff...

    Red Snapper:Prince Blimey, Warp

-Kick ass mostly instrumental british boys-tripped out guitars and stand-up bass with amazing production

    Fila Brazillia:A Touch Of Cloth,Tritone

-My favourite Fila album, cool ass packaging too!

    Breakestra:LiveMix Part 2,Stones Throw

-Amazing!! Live 9 piece band plays out all the jazz/funk loops that hip-hop stole-one big continous journey from loop to loop to song....whew!!

    Jimmy McGriff:Electric Funk, BlueNote

-Sweet B3 based funk, punchy originals and a cover of 'Spinning Wheel' that's schweeet!

    Herbie Hancock:Thrust, Columbia

-Personally I like this one better than Headhunters, has some live off the floor tracks that are just incredible....

    hope this helps!!

  2. I was at that show and maybe because it was the first of that tour-he seemed very unsure at best...I think I would've walked away with a bigger smile if he hadn't played a whitney houston song for an encore.... [Confused]

I saw him at Massey Hall in 92, it's maintained it's position in my top 10 list ever since...

  3. mmmmmm yeah I love em!!! I think 77 and Fear of Music kick ass, but the one to find is on vinyl only: The Name of This Band Is Talking Heads Long since discontinued unfortunately and never re-issued on CD or cassette...

    http://www.iespana.es/talkingheads/tnotbith.php

It shows up every now and then SHN'ed up but some are poor quality vinyl rips unfortunately and others are incomplete...

There's a track on there called 'Clean Break' which isn't on any of the other albums-worth the album alone....fanfriggintastic!!!

Also, the Feb 27/81 boot from Sun Plaza is incredible!!!

ANd to add to Northernwish's post-the 92 David Byrne album 'Uh-Oh' is definitely worth checking out....amazing!!

  4. hmmm scariest would have to be the Manson Family Opera by John Moran....

    http://www.deccaclassics.com/archive/www.pointmusic.com/moran.htm

or for runner up Steven Jesse Bernstein's Prison, this got a lot of play in my formative years(whatever they were forming)

    http://artists.spun.com/steven_jesse_bernstein

But Butthole Surfers can be pretty damn scary at times too- Even King Crimson's Larks Tongue in Aspic pt.1 can scare the bejesus outta ya if you're not expecting it.

Everynow and then i can flip between Moistboyz(Ween side project) Melvins or Helmet for some heavy duty scariness...

As for the embarassing stuff, I have the entire Ultra-Lounge series of 50's/60's lounge tunes, swing, bossanova, tiki music...i love it all-not many others do though.

ps Brad I love Dread Zeppelin!! that album is fuggin great and I'll shout it out loud. Wadda brilliant concept-reggae style Zep tunes with an Elvis impersonator singing!! hehehe

When I used to DJ dances in high school we'd play their version of Stairway to Heaven just to mess everyone up...

  5. Yeah Bricolage is wicked!! Check out Supermodified for some even more amazing stuff-less sample specific and more musical

I highly recommend anyone reading this thread check out the following albums!!!

    Tosca - Suzuki

    Kruder & Dorfmeister - K & D Sessions

David Holmes - Lets Get Killed

Fila Brazillia - Touch of Cloth

    Fila Brazillia - Power Clown

Fila Brazillia - Luck Be a Weirdo Tonite

Doc Scott - Lost in Drum n Bass(mixmag)

    DJ Food - Kaleidoscope

Spring Heel Jack - 68 Million Shades

    Rhinocerese - Installation Sonore

    Herbalizer - Very Mercenary

Mr. Scruff - hmmm can't remember the name...

ALL OF THE RED SNAPPER ALBUMS

  6. good luck, i've been trying for a few days now and no one else I know has gotten it to work...whatever they fixed, they done it right. I've tried over 20 different keycodes, some from the net, some from key gens, all to no luck.

I'm now scouring Ebay to get one for less than $299 US.....for each of my computers. BASTARDS!

  7. Bonobo is good, but be prepared folks-Tobin doesn't play live, and he doesn't play alot of his stuff. He DJ's. I've seen him a few times and it's good and all but it seemed to be more him having some fun and playing some tunes than him cranking out that insane-o breaksnjazziness he makes in his studio.

Now with that in mind, I could be wrong. His new album comes out today/tomorrow and he just moved his studio to Montreal from Bristol, so maybe he's got other plans...

    Get the albums-they are phenomenal!!

  8. [Confused] I drew the comparison to say that I don't lap up every piece of artistic drivel that's thrown out into the world-and sometimes even the bands I like have a handful of songs that just rub me the wrong way....maybe i should've picked Velvet Sea -a bit more comparable maybe in this instance but still on my fast forward list. Lotsa people like it but i don't know why... I'd take Dog Log over it!! [Eek!][Eek!]

I was actually pretty excited to be able to finally voice my distaste for Jack Straw, I mean I could've picked on Stella Blue too, but it's actually a beautiful song adorned with bad lyrics...now i'm off to listen to some MIDI trumpets!!

  9. "then freaking Jack Straw, lost all credability for that undisclaimed writer"

Funny, i think i was the one who posted that...

does one have to follow every statement with IMO now?

Been listening to the dead for over 10 years and at one time had as many as 400 hrs on tape. Got to see them 4 times in 94-don't get me wrong I had a freakin' blast but I still don't like Jack Straw. Yes maybe it's a classic, but damned if I'm not reaching for -skip track- when it comes on.

It's like the time I had the joy of seeing phish play "Jennifer Dances" - Save me Jeebus!! I felt like they were personally insulting my intelligence in selecting them as a band I like.

What's the deal? I'm more open-minded than Ray Liotta in Hannibal. I listen to music on an hourly, not daily basis. I've sold more CD's than you'll ever own. I've been to well over 500 concerts in my life. I don't feel the need to substantiate, but the need to explain maybe...I like music. Alot.

What that song boils down to is the lyrics+the singing....I don't think half of Robert Hunter's lyrics are worth listening to, and you gotta admit, the Dead just aren't first rate singers all the time, and on a crooner like this it's real noticable.

  10. hmmm...

    lazy lightning(and supplication)

    reuben and cerise

    picasso moon

    jack straw

liberty (god damn if the phil concert didn't hammer that one home)

Weather Report Suite I can take or leave, and i wanna say Hell in a Bucket cause it's so damn cheese, but it's catchy and "In the dark" was my first album....

Same with Mexicali Blues....stupid and hokey, but i've been listening for so long....
