Jaimoe
You could always go to Grossman's Tavern for some great blues. The bar is a dive, but it's a glorious dive. Here's who's playing at Grossman's on Tuesday, it sounds like an interesting show: Blues Monkeys Alec Fraser, Jerome Godboo, Al Webster, Shawn Kellerman Special Guests: Morgan Davis, Danny Marks, Randy Dawson, Julian Fauth, Gregory Ray, Tom Robertson, Plus many Surprise guests! Also, The Horseshoe and Chicago's are good bets for bands on Tuesday, and there shouldn't be any significant cover charges ( if any ) at all the places I've mentioned. CyberHippie
Creaking Tree at the Cadillac Lounge if you wanna see some bluegrass jazz fusion. There is also the Ambient Ping at C'est What if you wanna trip out, here's what's going on this week:Tuesday May 11th 2004 • RADiO iN AMBiENCE Part 2featuring David Pritchard + Scott M2 + Byron Wongand Planet Of The Loops with BLEEP VisualsWeek two of our special presentation for Deep Wireless, incollaboration with New Adventures in Sound Art, featuring artists creating soundscapes using radio as a significant soundsource. The first set features Toronto radio legend David Pritchard(host of the infamously eclectic Late Night show on CHUM-FMin the late 60s/early 70s, the first manager/program director for CFNY in the 70s, and creator of "Nocturnal Eathworm Stew" which is currently being released on CD for the first time and which should be available at the PiNG THiNGS table).Joining David will be electronic soundscape artist Scott M2(dreamSTATE, earotica) and multi-instrumentalist Byron Wong(King Brand Vallium, My Brilliant Beast) to create an evolving mix of electronic music with radios, treatments and loops. In the second set Planet Of The Loops' founder Andrew Aldridge is joined by Scott M2 to improvise a live-loop-based performance using as their primary sound-source, Feedback Monitor (DJ Greg Clow's weekly new electronic music program on CIUT-FM 89.5), which will be broadcasting a recording from last year's Deep Wireless/Planet Of The Loops' performance at THE AMBiENT PiNG on May 13th 2003. That performance was Jakob Thiesen (Self Service) looping/treating a Feedback Monitor broadcast of the previous week's P.O.T.Loops / Deep Wireless performance on May 6th 2003. The goal is to take a one-week loop and expand it into a one-year loop rooted in the original liveradio/theramin/guitar/loop-based performance by Andrew Aldridge.BLEEP Visuals will be making their first appearance at the PiNG.Between Sets CD • Fever Dreams by Steve Roach (Projekt)Roach's latest CD is the first of 3 interconnected "Fever releases" for 2004, featuring electronic textures interweaving with sensuous, mid-tempo hybrid grooves. Guest musicians Patrick O'Hearn on bass and Byron Metcaff on percussion add to the lush, hypnotic, and sweltering sonic atmosphere. (Available now at PiNG THiNGS.)www.theambientping.comBoth of those options are free.
