APRIL WINE

AQUAFEST 2004

BAYFRONT PARK, HAMILTON

SUNDAY JULY 11, 2004 8:30PM

FREE

Classic rock Canadian band from Montreal that have written hits like "Could Have Been A Lady," "Fast Train," "I'm On Fire For You Baby," "I Wouldn't Want To Lose Your Love," "Roller," "Just Between You And Me," "Sign Of A Gypsy Queen" and "I Like To Rock" with the guitar riffs of "Daytripper" and "Satisfaction" played on top of each other to great effect.

I'll be there, MarcO, hamilton? How about you Esau? You just mentioned how April Wine has released better records than the last couple of Phish albums. Are you going to go?

He rocked his way through yesterday, lord he thought he had a chance

He played guitar and wrote some tunes, of love and romance

He did his share of travelin', like a dog without a home

A fugitive who would rather give, a star that never shone

Isn't it a pity, isn't it a shame

No one ever warned the boy

Rock n' roll is a vicious game, oh yeah

He said he wouldn't get led around, or caught up in the games

Or end up in a gallery, of faces with no names

And rock 'n' roll was in his soul, and music was a friend

He recorded a song that made us sing along, and he was on the road again

Isn't it a pity, isn't it a shame

No one ever warned the boy

Rock n' roll is a vicious game, oh oh, oh yeah, oh oh

Stage fright, ooh, and long black limousines

He's pushing himself a way too hard, or so it seems

He opened up his heart to us, he gave us what he could

We symphathized and harmonized, he made us all feel good

But it's funny how those things can change, and time can pass us by

Songs that moved us so easily, no longer make us cry

Now isn't it a pity, isn't it a shame

No one ever warned the boy

Rock n' roll is a vicious game, oh oh, oh

Oh yeah, oh, oh oh oh, oh, yeah, yeah yeah yeah

My my my, rock 'n roll is a vicious game, yeah

Rock 'n' roll, rock 'n' roll, yeah, yeah, yeah, ooh

Esau, Should be fun, I saw them at Lulu's in 1995, I miss that venue. After seeing Van Halen a couple of weeks ago, I'm still in the mood for some more Classic Rock. Besides I didn't get "Could Have Been A Lady" at that Lulu's show, I hope they play it tonight.

Hey hamilton, I hope your fork jamming went well last night. While you were doing that I saw a pretty good Canadian band that has been around since 1971.

I think Myles Goodwyn is not only a underrated Canadian guitarist, but songwriter as well.

I dragged my girlfriend to see the show, by the end of it she actually admitted to enjoying the show. She couldn't believe how many songs she actually knew! I guess we can all thank Cancon and the CRTC for that, but that's for another post.

I also couldn't believe that their drummer Jerry Mercer is sixty-five years old! Boy for an old, relatively large man, can he still drum.

The band was rounded out by Jim Clench on bass, who wrote "Oowatanite" and sang lead on that classic radio song and "Weeping Widow."

Brian Greenway on guitar, who sang lead on "Drop Your Guns" and King Crimson's "21st Century Schizoid Man."

Myles sang the rest of the songs mostly written by him, minus "You Could Have Been A Lady" by Hot Chocolate, "Bad Side Of The Moon" by Elton John and "Sign Of A Gypsy Queen" by Lorence Hud.

There was also a new mamber Carl Dixon on guitar and keyboards.

Here's the setlist from the show.

Start time 8:57pm

1. The Band Has Just Begun ("Electric Jewels", 1974)

2. Don't Push Me Around ("Stand Back", 1975)

3. Drop Your Guns ("On Record", 1972)

4. Cum Hear The Band ("Stand Back", 1975)

5. Say Hello ("Harder...Faster", 1979)

6. Big City Girls ("Nature Of The Beast", 1981)

7. Weeping Widow ("Electric Jewels, 1974)

8. 21st Century Schizoid Man ("Harder...Faster", 1979)>

Drum solo> 21st Century Schizoid Man

9. Just Between You And Me ("Nature Of The Beast", 1981)

10. Bad Side Of The Moon ("On Record", 1972)

11. This Is Who I Am, This Is What I Do ("Greatest Hits Live 2003", 2004)

12. Sign Of The Gypsy Queen ("Nature Of The Beast", 1981)

13. Could Have Been A Lady ("On Record", 1972)

14. Roller ("First Glance", 1978)

Encore: 15. Tonight Is A Wonderful Time To Fall In Love ("Stand Back", 1975)

16. Oowatanite ("Stand Back", 1975)
