NewRider
what about Green Day? Aren't they influential like Pearl Jam, Radiohead and Wilco? What about Limp Bizkit?

MarcO
I think you are correct, Alan. Little Steven ("Little Steven's underground garage" - must-listen radio) once spoke of how he often gets asked, "what is the format for your show?". His answer was "The Ramones". Meaning, all the music he plays either influenced The Ramones or was influenced by them. A pretty good formula, if you ask me. As far as The Beatles goes, the question isn't "what bands THAT YOU LIKE are the most influential?" so to question their making the list is nuts. They influenced EVERYONE and nothing was the same afterwards. That really should be self-evident.
weezy
Pearl Jam?!?!? I added that one simply for the fact that Eddie Vedder's voice is one of the most imitated in recent history. All these uber crappy 'rock radio' bands are either imitating Eddie V or Cher, I'm not sure which one sometimes...
meggo
you know, pearl jam was the first band... well them and the chili peppers... that i was officially "obsessed" with. i still think 'ten' is an amazing album. my dos centavos.

Guest Low Roller
Sorry, I haven't followed this thread at all, but I've scanned enough to have a general feel for the thread so I'll throw my two cents in right now for 5 top influential bands (this list will be heavily baised by own personal perspective): - Nirvana -> inspired the whole "grunge" epidemic - Radiohead -> influenced a whole generation of brit-pop bands like Beta Band, Muse, Manic Street Preachers, The Doves, etc... - The Beatles -> well d'uh. - Chuck Berry -> totally agreed Esau! - Metallica -> Prove me wrong. Jaimoe
No particular order: John Mayall Alexis Korner Very interesting picks here Greg. I assume that you chose these two English bluesmen because of the influence they had ( and Mayall still has ) on everything Brit-Pop in the 60's?
