zimmerman pt3
Oh well, life goes on :: I'll never forget when I was in grade 8 running to Sam The Record Man to get the Warner debut Bungle album and having THE actual Sam the Record Man show me where it was in the Alternative section. After listening to Girls of Porn and My Ass is on Fire, my life was changed for ever! http://www.rollingstone.com/news/story/_/id/6659786/mrbungle?pageid=rs.Home&pageregion=single1
ollie
That's too bad. This band, and Mike Patton in general, had a big affect on my formative musical years. I'm lucky I got to see them twice. I guess that means Patton is only in, like, 12 bands now?
StoneMtn
Exactly. Mike Patton isn't going anywhere. Whether he's in Mr. Bungle or not, we can expect decades of insanity from that guy; like it or not. I'll miss Mr. Bungle, but there's plenty of Patton left to go around, and certainly much more to come.
zero
The connoisseur as always heady one. That is sad news. I wonder what he'll get up to, Tomahawk is one of his projects as well I'm blanking? I know he's on the Handsome Boy Modelling School sequel (as is JOHN mafuggin's OATES!!!), Lovage (also Automator) was a one off, Fantomas, seems like I heard something else about him recently. my bad I just read the article guess that about explains it
StoneMtn
I'm definitely a Tomahawk fan. I'm not too into The Fantomas or Faith No More, though. Tomahawk definitely has some cool weirdness, however, and I expect Patton will invent yet another freakish band any time; similar or entirely different from all of the above. gentlemonkey
zim, those were the first two Bungle tunes I heard as well, hooked me immediatley. I was very into the socal punkfunk thing at the time. anyway, booooo, love the bungle. and faith no more. bought a fantomas record and didnt love it, havent heard tomahawk. i just ordered lovage a few days ago, strangely.. I think Kid Koala is part of that project too. anyway, mike patton rules. one of the best singers/front men of the 90s for sure. travolta.
StoneMtn
Speaking of "My Ass Is On Fire", is anyone aware that Patton is very proud of being a "sh!t terrorist"? Apparently, he likes to defecate on things really quickly, and run, leaving people to deal with the embarrassment. He has apparently done it to other bands, on their amps, just as shows are starting. "Interesting" guy.
gentlemonkey
No way!! I guess him and I have something in common. I have accidentally been a sh!t terrorist twice. I guess 3rd degree sh!t terrorism. true terror though.
ollie
There were a lot of stories about Mike back-in-tha-day. I remember he had a penchant for shoving mics up his ass. At one show I saw he cold-cocked some poor kid with his mic. But I think he's mellowed. StoneMtn -- why no love for Faith No More?
StoneMtn
I can't really explain it. To me, they sound like a boring version of Mr. Bungle. They just sound too middle-of-the-road for me. I prefer Patton at his craziest. That being said, I think they're a good band, but they've never 'grabbed' me.
ollie
What have you heard? I recommend giving "King For a Day, Fool For a Lifetime" a few spins if you haven't already. Althought not as crazy as Mr. B, it does feature Trey Spruance on guitar.
StoneMtn
Thanks for the recommendation Ollie. I think I have only one Faith No More disc, and that is probably all I've listened to. (Could it just be called "Faith No More"?) I will obtain the disc you recommend and give it another listen. I really do give them a chance every now and then, but then I always end up deciding they're not my thing. I will check out "King for a Day..", though, and maybe I'll change my mind. Thanks! ollie
Quick chronological discography: We Care A Lot Introduce Yourself The Real Thing Angel Dust King For a Day... Album of the Year First two albums were with Chuck Mosely on vocals. He had an awful, droning voice that turned off a lot of people. That and the band's synergy was half-baked at this stage. But I really like Introduce Yourself. The Real Thing was their breakthrough album. Angel Dust was the weird follow-up to alienate the new fans. At this point Jim Martin was kicked out of the band and Trey Spruance was brought onboard as a hired gun. King For a Day was another strong album but the band's popularity had declined at this point. Album of the Year was released with no fanfare in the last year of the band's existence. It's the weakest of the Patton-era bunch.

zimmerman pt3
A sh!t Terrorist!?@? That's jokes! As for FNM, even though I was into the Real Thing, it all began and ended with "Angel Dust": that album rules on several levels!
gentlemonkey
id say angel dust is the best.. I think Mike Patton is one of very few rock singers i can think of that are awesome at singing like a dozen different ways. Gene Ween too.
StoneMtn
A sh!t Terrorist!?@? That's jokes! "The role of sh!t Terrorist that Patton has maximised since the release of the 'Angel Dust' album 12 months ago, is perhaps beginning to feel uncomfortable. The singer's inglorious antics during this period have been well documented: urinating in his own boot onstage and drinking it down before a capacity crowd; crapping in hotel hairdryers; polluting beverages backstage with his own excrement; acquiring all manner of contraband pornography. In fact the singer -- who said "a sh!t-eating video is so much cooler than watching two people kissing" last time I interviewed him -- is now travelling with what might comfortably be deemed an affectionate female friend." http://jimmartin.tarantella.net/articles/fnm/1993/9308Select.htm
Velvet
I liked the Bungles. I have their 2nd and third albums, and they're both great in different ways. I appreciate the challenge. GM - one of your terrorism acts was in the Soo was it not? Feel sorry for the fu©ker that found it. Woulda loved to have seen your face.
zero
Sounds like he's a coprophiliac. I've heard Chuck Berry was also one and was particularly fond of the golden shower. James Brown is bisexual too for what it's worth, hell while we're at it might as well throw Duke Ellington in there (not the brown shower bit). Coprophilia is a paraphilia consisting of the condition of feeling sexual excitement focused on feces, often in conjunction with BDSM or infantilism. Alternative terms include scat fetishism and scat play, which share a root with the scientific and literary term scatology. Scat fetishism is featured prominently in some Japanese pornography. Some coprophiliacs engage in coprophagia, the eating of feces, which is a potentially hazardous activity due to the risks of infection with diseases such as hepatitis. Note that even consuming one's own feces could have potentially harmful consequencies, as the bowel bacteria are not necessarily safe to ingest. Coprophile activities are sometimes referred to by the euphemism hardsports, presumably by analogy with the use of the euphemism watersports for urolagnia and urophilia. The practice of brown showers refers to the practice of defecating on a person to derive sexual pleasure.
