ollie
If money isn't an issue and you're looking to impress then check out Domus on Murray St. The Heart and Crown is always a good choice. And there's a cheap Vietnamese place on the same street that I've heard good things about. Oh yeah, the Black Thorn Cafe is another great place for lunch. I think it's Murray as well... near Sussex. DevO
I don't know many places in Ottawa but I had a wicked awesome meal at The Wild Oat, in the "gleeeb" I think. Try the Japanese Omlette! ding!
AdamH
The Wild Oat is overhyped, but for veg. breakfast it's hard to beat the bean sprout/miso soup/scrambled eggs combo that KevO is talking about. Yuo can go to Globe near there and have huevos rancheros. Or you could go to La Botega and get really good italian sandwiches for cheap.
DevO
perhaps overhyped but ultra heady no doubt.

thatpatguy
are there any vegan places close to cafe deckuf or the best western in hull? I don't know about in Hull but near Deckuf is Govinda's it's at 212 Somerset East (just east of King Edward) you can check the web site here http://iskcon.ca/ottawa/homepage/buffet2.htm
bokonon
that's it, i'm moving to ottawa. :: thanks thatpatguy!!!
ollie
Also in the neighbourhood of Govinda's is Perfection Satisfaction Promise (weird name!) , a vegetarian restaurant with vegan options. It's on Laurier Ave. East, near King Edward Ave. But you can't beat Govinda's for the price.
thatpatguy
that Perfection Satisfaction Promise used to the painted potato right? next to the oak? that place is good.. though like Govinda's has a interesting relgious affiliation.. except that one is afliated with everyone's favourite guru, Sri Chinmoy Personally, my favourite is The Table, and it's a nice 10 minute walk from my house.. sweet! ollie
Yeah, used to be the Painted Potato... I haven't been there in years. Isn't there also a "The Table" on Dalhousie? I remember there was at one point, but I don't know if it's still there. Dalhousie also being fairly close to Dekcuf.
bokonon
do you guys pronounce dalhousie so it sounds kind of like doll housie (like maritimers) or do you pronounce it the brantford way so it sounds like dulloosey?
ollie
I pronounce it more like "dall-hoozee". But I've heard all kinds, depending upon the speaker's region of origin.
Freeker
The correct way to pronounce it is DAL-HOUSE-IE (The Maritime way). Silly upper Canadians....I mean its not Dalhooozee University is it?
ollie
Hey, I knew the street before I knew the university. Old habits die hard. "Rideau Street" is another one the out-of-towners have a funny way of pronouncing.
rubberdinghy
Rido is one of my faves'''' Back to lunch places...Pancho Villa for excellent cheap Mexican!!
AdamH
The Roses Also is cheap indian, haveli is better but indian doesn't agree with everyone, and for a cheap but tasty dinner you can get steak frites or a plate of mussels for 11 bucks at Vineyards. Watch out, drinks are definitely not cheap. My advice is to get the heck out of the market and go down Elgin St. to the Manx. Have a look at this website for reviews of any place mentioned here: http://www.stevex.org/restaurants/default.aspx
