bradm
The Thursday night slot at Babylon will be filled by "Mad Soul Night", featuring Soul Jazz Orchestra, with the resident DJ being D-Mass {a member of the Palm Squad, and also the turntablist in Inglewood Jack).Aloha,Brad
AD
Love the Soul Jazz Orchestra. Hopefully people come out and support, they are kick ass but virtually unknown local talents. People on this board would definitely dig their stuff, funky funky jazz, 3 horns, keys, drums, I think possibly percussion?Great band and super nice guys.AD
bradm
Yeah, I've heard of them, but never heard them, so I'm looking forward to this. With any luck, they'll do multiple sets each night, and start the first set earlier than Raggamuffin did...Aloha,Brad
SmoothedShredder
Yeah SoulJazz! They played a kick ass show for the Gypsy Crew in Toronto... and yeah, they are realatively unknown... so lets change that!~W
bradm
Or they could book an up-and-coming funk/jam/jazz band with hip-hop leanings for a regular Thursday night gig... There's an article in this week's XPress with some comments/response from Bingie (which is worth reading), but at the tail end of the article, they note Kronick told XPress he has decided to give Thursdays to Soul Jazz Orchestra, an Ottawa band combining classic jazz, funk, afrobeat, and Latin stylings with modern hip-hop thrown into the mix. I knew I should have trademarked that idea... Aloha, Brad
AD
Souljazz has been doing it for years. They've had a weekly gig at Café Nostalgica for a long time, starting as a 3-piece named Straight No Chaser. They're tight, original and funky. The message board here begs for bands like this; here's a local one, let's pump it up!AD
Im going home Donny
Yeah, I've heard of them, but never heard them, so I'm looking forward to this.
