mark tonin Posted June 26, 2006 Report Share Posted June 26, 2006 I was there on Saturday night ... it's a really sweet venue, nice seats, some room to move around, great sound. I could actually hear many of Oteil's bass notes, which often doesn't happen in amphitheatre shows. All in all I thought it was a solid show, but it didn't blow my mind. I'm not sure why ... maybe it had to do with the crowd/venue ... not as many heads as I'm used to, which changed the atmosphere of things. I thought that Warren cranked it up a few times, but Derek Trucks seemed to be holding back, and his guitar tone didn't hit me between the eyeballs and make my soul shiver like it has in the past when I've seen the band.Like I said, I thought it was a solid show, but not "through the roof."Peace, Mark Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
phorbesie Posted June 26, 2006 Report Share Posted June 26, 2006 what an awesome weekend!!! that was one of the best weekends ever. friday night's show was unbelievably good. we were sitting up in the balcony right over the stage and could see everything so perfectly. the balcony was only half full, which was great because you could stand up and move without blocking anyone. awesome show. my highlights were woman across the river and elizabeth reed, which was super long and had a 15 (?) minute drum jam in it. one way out was also great as everyone was rockin and singing along. into the mystic was also a really nice treat...loved it! we all went to the casino, got wasted and gambled and hung out with derek trucks. such a nice guy...i wish he would smile more often onstage as he has a great smile. the guys were waiting to play poker but it was just too busy so it never happened. it was really fun though. i knew after that that i couldn't miss saturday night's show! saturday was a gorgeous day...chilled by the pool, went on the skywheel, and met up with basher and stoned phillips for dinner before the show. velvet scored us a great deal on some floor tickets with his roulette winnings. it was lucky because there was only a couple people selling tickets. the sound on the floor was a little better than up in the balcony. it sounded great. but what an awesome venue! there isn't a bad seat in the place. the show was good but i wasn't really feelin it so much as mark tonin mentioned. i thought the crowd was great both nights even if they weren't heads. there were some really great songs interspersed in the set, but then some songs were just meh. i was surprised when they played guilded splinters cause i didn't know they played that tune! that was fun. my highlights were desdemona and jessica. there was another tune that was just crazy too but i can't remember which. basher and s.p. took off after the show and we went to the casino again and played for awhile. sunday we did all kinds of touristy stuff. we had a kick ass breakfast then went on some rides, played dinosaur mini golf, and finally went on the maid of the mist boat ride, which was a lot of fun. it sure is different when you are looking at the falls from directly below! we were tired after all that and started the long drive home. got home around midnight and i just got up now! i will post some pics shortly.
