Music stuff?

My dad was wondering what a "good" music site is for downloading. Id offer him archive, but he doesnt really listen to the hippy stuff. Hes more in to jazz and R&B. Also, he's worried about contracting viruses and spam like you would through Kazaa or the sort. Hes not looking for anything too complicated either. Any suggestions? Thanks a tonne.

Can you give more info (specific artists, maybe) on what he likes? "Jazz and R&B" covers a lot of ground.

As well, the Live Music Archive covers far more types of music than just "the hippy stuff." (For example, Lettuce is straight-up [or down] instrumental deep-pocket jazz-funk.)

Aloha,

Brad

I collect lots of rare jazz, old funk etc. and I find many commerical/pay sites simply don't have that stuff. iTunes will have the big titles but not the more niche stuff.

I have had excellent success with soulseek. I have never got a virus form it in the 4yrs I've used it and I find there are many collector types and jazz heads on their where you can find the "older gems".

You may need to give him a brief turtorial on it as it is more of searching site, as opposed to a commercial site.

For streaming get him on Sugarmegs.org. I got there everyday and they have lots of old blues, rock, jazz and beyond. They have lots of stuff from you Dad's generation and beyond.

Hey, if anyone comes across a torrent for the under-manufactured (only 5000) 4-cd box set of Aretha Franklin and King Curtis at the Fillmore PLEASE let me know. Such fantastic music and I just have to hear it all. I have the single Original Masters Recording CD, and the newer 2CD set, but not the 4Cd set including all the King Curtis material too.

Is it? Sweet. Because of the kind generosity of AD, I'm back on OINK. I'll look it up and pull it asap.

They have an MP3 version right now:

Along with a FLAC versions of the Aretha and King Curtis releases:
