May is awesome month for me. Both of my daughters were born in May. This month also begins with a full moon and ends with a full moon. After this full moon**. Im down to 4 moons till our next McKiddo is done in the slow oven. That full moon which the baby is due marks Lughnassadh another powerful moon. Sorry if it sounds like Im going a little sideways on you people, Im just very intune and aware of the energy surrounding me right now and thought I would share.

** sidenotes for people who dont understand what or why Im talking about this. Like PoG.

Lughnassadh (Loo-NAHS-ah) is named for the Celt/Pict/ Druid sun God, Lugh, and is usually looked upon as the first of the three Pagan harvest festivals.

the 13th Moon is called the Blue Moon, this occurs when four full moons fall within the same season (as regular seasons only have 3 full moons, the fourth full moon between solstice and equinox, or vice versa, is the Blue Moon). Obviously this must happen once a year, and always at a different time due to the inaccuracies of the modern calendar. The Celts originally set their year to correspond with the 13 moons but with the coming of the Romans and their method of calendar keeping this tradition was lost. Their 13th Moon was called Ruis or Elder.

May is the time for strengthening the connections with supernatural protectors and beings around you. The energy is in full flow making this a good time for intuition, propagating, and connecting with faeries and nature spirits.

An esbat is a ritual observance of the full moon within Wicca and other Wiccan-influenced forms of Neopaganism. [color:green]Some groups extend these celebrations to include the dark moon, or even the first and last quarters. Traditionally, the Sabbats are times of celebration, while magical work is done at the esbats.

There are thirteen canonical full moons each year, although some years will have only twelve, because a synodic lunar month is more than twenty-eight days long (actually about 29½ days). A "blue moon" is popularly defined as the second full moon in a calendar month, although some define it as the second full moon while the sun is in one sign of the Zodiac.In The Witches' Goddess, Janet and Stewart Farrar note that the Babylonians considered the new moon to be the time when the Goddess was menstruating, and it was bad luck to do work on that day. In Jewish culture, this is the first day of the month, called Rosh Chodesh, and is still observed by some as a holiday for women.

The term esbat is probably a recent adoption, dating to the writings of Margaret Murray. It is derived from French esbat (modern ébat), meaning roughly "frolic, romp", with some sexual connotations. This term was used during the European witch trials to describe the supposed behaviour of witches engaging in Devil worship, and it has been claimed[attribution needed] that Murray was misled by the word's coincidental resemblance to the word sabbat.[1]
