Ok... last night was THE party night!!! Fantasy kicked ASS! Wow... you have never, and I mean never, seen a spectacle such as this.... from the costumes to the song selection to the instrumentation to the crowd interaction... this was a night to remember!

COSTUMES: * * * * *

- For those of you that know the Freeker kids:

> Serena (vocals) started the night off in legwarmers, mini skirt and 80s off shoulder top... then for second set came out in a full Madonna's black lace get -up w/ pearls, etc. Crimped hair was in full effect.

> Sean (keyboard, percussion, vocals)was in tight white pants, white shirt, skinny red leather tie, 80s gelled hair.

> Marc (keyboards, vocals) stylie tight little yellow number... words can't really describe

> Felber (bass laser, vocals) ... you've seen NOTHING like this ever... burgundy velour tights, furry mukluk boots, tight shirt, moustache, crazy wig

> Paul (on lights and smoke machine) ... did the preppy 80s look with polo tshirt and sweater over the shoulders tied in a knot

There were several other members on stage who I don't know their names but they are members of Fantasy (some being original members of the band Dynasty which spawned Fantasy):

> Female keyboardist started the night off in a 20 minute workout style body suit, ski boots and ski goggles and ended in 80s mini skirt, off the shoulder shirt

> Lead singer was in make-up, a headband and a FULL white spandex jumpsuit (note: shitidiot... that should have been you... but your costume rocked as well)

> Guitarist... crazy wig, tight pants and tight Van Halen shirt.

SONG SELECTION: * * * * *

- The song selection was a phenomenal treat... god love the 80s!!!! From what I remember, they performed such gems as:

Whip It, Final Countdown, Summer of 69, Jesse's Girl, Africa, Take on Me, Turning Japanese, Hungry Like the Wolf, Beat It, Where the Streets Have no Name, Jump, 99 LuftBalloons, Footloose, What a Feeling, Eye of the Tiger, Don't You Want Me, Crosseyed and Painless, Purple Rain, Sunglasses at Night, Everybody Wants to Rule the World, and the list goes on... almost bringing a tear of nostalgia to one's eye...

- Mike Felber was the king of the eve, sporting a knife so that he could punctuate songs with the shot-gunning of beer. Now there's a Candaian idol for ya! I've never seen so many shotguns done ... let alone done on stage while performing... awesome...

INSTUMENTATION: * * * * *

- Amazing! These guys sure know how to play and they switched it up often, taking turns on both lead and supporting vocals as well as with each other's instruments.

CROWD INTERACTION: * * * * *

- Before Fantasy the band played, the night started off with a 80s Kareoke contest hosted by our buddy JD. The winner of said contest got to come up on stage at the end of the night and sing "Eye of the Tiger" with the band. By the time this point of the evening came about, the winner had actually left the bar, so a guy from the crowd, dressed in the best FUBAR get-up I've seen in person, was honorarily brought up as a result of his style (rather than vocal) efforts. It should be noted as well that the majority of the crowd was in 80s clothing as well. Ahhhh, fashion... such a joy yet such a crime at the same time!

- The stage was a hub of activity last night and at some points all 10 or so performers would be on stage at the same time. They were showcased perfectly and dramatically by the 80s style lighting and smoke effects. The performers did not hesistate to interact with the crowd and their between song banter was done in the respective accents of their character. They all had stage names and faux life stories that were shared through anecdotes between songs. As well, Fantasy consistently talked up the crowd and the city "How are you Toron-to? Yeaaahh!!!" Lastly, rock and roll cliches moves were paid tribute through the infectuous energy of the band as they spurred on the crowed with high kicks, jumps, deep knee bends, back to back guitar solos, lying on the ground guitar solos, clawing at the air, crawling along the stage... I could go on and on .

The night closed with encore after encore, with the crowd screaming themselves hoarse for more until the bar had to turn the lights on, awakening all to the reality of the year 2003.

Last night rocked and made all in attendance wanting this band to come through town again - the sooner the better.

Fantasy truly seemed like a fantasy... how could something so real be so good? [Wink][big Grin]

Thanks for the sweet review Mary.

Just to clarify, that was Toto on vocals, Billie Jaguar on keys, Bon Bon on drums, and the incomprable Christopher Alexander McCarrington III on guitar. And remember in the world of Fantasy, Serena's name is actually Madison, Felber is Ron, Shaun is Tron, Mark is Wilheim, and Paul is Robert James. If anyone would like to see this with their own eyes, please join us in Montreal on Saturday Sept 26 for a secret location post-pop fest late night loft party. And since Freeker is opening for Burt at Le Swimming on Friday night, you may as well make a weekend of it. See you there Mary!

Looking forward to it!

Nothing could make me miss this weekend... for all those on the fence... not only will BNB, Freeker and Fantasy be playing this weekend but the city will be a-buzz with a boatload of performers for the Montreal Pop Fest. You could find yourself on your 4am poutine run waiting in line for the goods next to folks from bands like Broken Social Scene, Stars, Sloan, Joel Plaskett, Hawksley Workman, Cuff the Duke, Metric, Soft Canyon, Hawaii, Buck 65, The Sadies... they'll all be playing... they'll all be partying.

The Fantasy afterparty will rock your world... it's a night that'll make you want to hop in one of these puppies with Michael J. Fox and head back to the 80s for good.
