Ex-Phish frontman added to Newport Folk Festival lineup

NEWPORT, R.I. — Phish-heads and Parrot-heads, unite!

Trey Anastasio, the former Phish lead singer, has been added to the Newport Folk Festival, joining Jimmy Buffett, the Black Crowes and Levon (luh-VON’) Helm.

Other new additions include alt-country band Son Volt and 1960s folkster Richie Havens, who performed at Woodstock.

It’s Anastasio’s first time playing the famed festival, and organizers say it’ll be his first-ever full solo acoustic show.

Phish broke up in 2004, but still have a devoted following and reunited Wednesday evening at the Jammy Awards in New York City.

The folk festival lineup also includes Cat Power, Cowboy Junkies and Jakob Dylan.

The festival is scheduled for August 1-3 at Fort Adams State Park in Newport.

The Newport Folk Festival is a multi-day, multi-stage music festival held at the historic International Tennis Hall of Fame and Fort Adams State Park in Newport, Rhode Island. The Newport Folk Festival brings together some of the most prolific performers of our times with roots to folk music.

This year’s event will kick off on Friday, August 1st, with an evening concert at the International Tennis Hall of Fame at the Newport Casino; followed by two full days of ground-breaking performances across three stages at the historic Fort Adams State Park on August 2nd and 3rd.

Parking

There is plenty of parking at Fort Adams State Park, within a moderately short distance of the entrance to the Festival. We highly encourage patrons to consider purchasing parking passes when purchasing tickets to the show.

Vending

There will be a variety of diverse and reasonably priced food available to the general public. If you wish to become a food & beverage vendor at Newport Folk Festival, please email NFFinfo@festivalnetwork.com.

Alcohol

There will be beer and wine available to the general public, for sale and consumption in designated areas in the venue. Alcohol does not go on sale until 1:00 pm each day.

Merchants

In addition to food and beverage, there will be artisans and vendors selling high-quality merchandise, crafts and official Newport Folk Festival merchandise. If you wish to become a vendor at Newport Folk Festival, please email NFFinfo@festivalnetwork.com.

Accommodations

Lodging

Newport is a popular travel destination in the summer months and particularly during the festival weekend. Visit www.gonewport.com for tips on where to stay and how to get around.

Camping

There is currently no on site camping available at the festival but check back often for updates as we hope to offer camping packages in the very near future. Visit www.visitrhodeisland.com in the Recreation Camping section for information on campgrounds in the surrounding area.

Rules & Regulations

No glass containers of any kind, alcohol, professional photography equipment, weapons, fireworks, illegal substances, pets, bicycles, skateboards, lawn chairs (excluding low seated concert chairs), umbrellas or any other item that may impair another patron’s ability to see the stages.

Seating

All general admission tickets are lawn seating. We highly encourage you to bring blankets or low-back concert chairs.

Re-Entry

All patrons will be permitted to leave and re-enter the festival grounds with both a special hand-stamp and their ticket.

Persons with Disabilities

Generally speaking, the terrain at Fort Adams State Park is level. Although the main festival site is a grass field, there are some roadways and other accessible paths to maneuver around the venue. In addition, there will be a reserved disability section available on-site, which is partially accessible by a concrete path. Some chairs are provided in this section, though a chair is not guaranteed. Due to the limited amount of space, each person with a disability may bring one companion into this area. Families of two adults and children less than 18 years of age, are permitted to stay together in the reserved section.

Volunteers

We are always looking for friendly, helpful, reliable volunteers to help at the Newport Folk Festival. Volunteering is a great way to experience a wide range of art styles and music. Another advantage is that you get in to the festival for free!

Jobs

There are a number of different jobs available to you as volunteer for the festival. They include everything from information booths, street teams, vendor setup, staff catering, dressing room maintenance, etc. Generally speaking, volunteers are available to help where and when needed. NO VOLUNTEER WILL BE ASSIGNED TRASH OR PORTO-POTTY DUTIES.

Requirements

You must be 18 years of age.

You will be requested to work two shifts, each between four (4) to six (6) hours. Shift times and hours will vary from person to person. As a volunteer, you must be flexible.

Volunteers must be on-time and accessible at the time of their shift.

Volunteer positions are fulfilled on a first come, first serve basis.

This probably wasn't the first time the four of them have gotten together since 2004. Wouldn't reuniting assume like, ah, actually playing music together on stage, as opposed to accepting an award.
