I've been in the States for the past two weekends. I charged everything on my credit card- just paid it off and I got screwed. Big time. I'm guessing Visa must charge a surcharge of some sort b/c I paid more then 20%.

I know we are a resource based economy but I just can't wrap my head around how we hear that we have the most secure banking system in the world one week and that same week we lose economic ground to the U.S. - It just doesn't make sense to me. They essentially infuse a shit load of money in to their system- which theoretically should lead to inflation, and yet their dollar strengthens compared to ours. I knew I should have paid more attention in first year economics.

jay, pretty much all credit cards charge 2.5% or so "juice" on the conversion.

Oil goes down... dollar goes down.

I wouldn't worry too much... if ever a market needed a correction this is the time.

FYI: Looks like Flaherty's announcement this morning may help our dollar - its down, but that was preannouncement and its been climbing since the market opened this morning.... although still not up for the day.
