Dr. J
50 years ago tonight (just after midnight) the world of rock 'n' roll would suffer what would arguably be its greatest loss. There were more to come, but few would do so much with so little time as Buddy Holly. No disrespect to Richardson and Valens, but Buddy was the man. Lest we forget. TheGoodRev
RIP. Everybody who makes music owes this young man a debt of gratitude. He was a true pioneer in many ways.
SaggyBalls
Holly was making some amazing music at the very end. It's a shame he got in that airplane. It would have at least saved us from hearing Don MacLean's 'American Pie'

Dr. J
Nice. Thanks Kev.For me, Buddy Holly is to rock what Hank Williams is to country and Robert Johnson is to the blues - a figure whose greatness literally defines a genre. It's difficult sometimes to fully appreciate the magnitude of their impact outside the historical context within which they worked. Buddy Holly was 22 when he died. Kanada Kev
Exactly. We were perilously close to losing rock and roll in north america after he died. We can thank the Beatles arrival on US soil in '64 for the revival of rock.Beatles (named themselves after Holly's band The Crickets) and Holly = greatness.
