Blane
Ok gang, last year I posted this and thanks to your input discovered Tallest Man on Earth, William Elliot Whitmore, and more. AD
I think you'd like Woodpigeon and Timber Timbre (although Timber Timbre really depends on the setting and your mood - it's quiet and spooky-ish)
DevO
I liked Horse Feathers at Hillside Festival. They're also pretty quiet though, and the singer has a high, gentle voice a lot of Iron & Wine's.. So depends on your mood. Looks like a beauty fest. Where is it happening? UK I presume? Esau.
You already plan to see the one artist I would have recommended.Frank FairfieldIt's sorta funny, on facebook about a week or two back Frank was asking if anyone had any hard-shell cases for sale or lend, as he was getting ready for his trip over seas and didn't actually have one for his guitar and banjo. Just shows how much this guy actually tours away from California or the rest of the west coast. Please fill me in how his show was and what you thought of it, I'm dying to see him live. There are a ton of names on there I'm not too familiar with, so it looks like I have a list of some things to check out myself. Thanks.
FairySari
From that list I've seen Wilco and Deer Tick (who you've already asterisked & i'd recommend) and Mountain Man - three female a capella singers. I read a review that described them as 14th century chant on an appalaichan back porch, and i think it's pretty accurate. Not my thing, but I don't know if you'd like it? Blane
Thanks for your recs so far.Esau, actually going to see Frank Fairfield twice in the next few weeks. He's playing here in brighton for next to nothing at a tiny pub next week. Will then catch him at this fest the week after. Kev, yeah it's here in the UK, in "West Country", or Dorset to be exact. Kinda in the middle of nowhere with really small crowds, which is what music like this works best with, IMO. It's nice to be somewhere that people are quiet for the quiet acts, you can sorta lay back and sip a beer and just enjoy some folky stuff in the afternoon, then have some more upbeat and noisier stuff (e.g. Yo La Tengo, Modest Mouse, Black Mountain) in the evening. Good combination for fogies like me! Edited August 24, 2010 by Guest
NewRider
The Antlers are alright. Haven't seen them live but dig the album I have. Felice Brothers, Horse Feathers and Ra Ra Riot are all great.

zero
Just at first glance and I can't believe you didn't asterix Felice Brothers (they are just killer live, a seriously credibly band and so young- raucous, deep songwriting).I'd definitely give Antlers, Cymbals Eat Guitars and Here We Go Magic a chance live I bet they deliver on their really well produced albums. Also I'm presuming The Minnikins is Ruth and Gabe Minnikin formerly of the Guthries (which gave us Matt Murphy's solo career and was also Dale Murray - Anne's nephews- first big band now Cuff The Duke and all sorts of shit). Jaimoe
I saw the Antlers when they opened for the National at Massey Hall a few months ago. They were good as were the headliners.

shainhouse
The two who run EoTR always book a ton of Canadian acts. There's a reason for that Blane.. will explain later. You should see:Wilderness of ManitobaSnowman (Stagecoach is a different band)Smoke FairiesFreelance WhalesAdam Green
Blane
great work folks. i think at this point i'm going to need an intern to help me catch all the stuff I've tagged or others have mentioned!Felice Brothers adn Antlers seem to get repeat mentions so I'll make sure I stop by their sets. Will do some more research on the others as well. Thanks!
