Jaimoe
Are you asking about Tom Waits, or music in general?
rubberdinghy
Music in general...I already got him a couple of waits shows...I scoured STG and got some old metallica and ramones...He`s nuts!!!
Jaimoe
Well, my co-winners of the Best Album of 2003 are to me, great gift ideas, and they are not considered jambands: Elephant - The White Stripes It Still Moves - My Morning Jacket ( MMJ sounds like Neil Young-meets-The Beach Boys-meets-Skynyrd-meets-meets The Band )
Jaimoe
... and you can't go wrong with another non-jam band: The Soundtrack Of Our Lives. Their album " Behind The Music " was my Best Album Of 2002 and they are STILL my 2003 Concert Of The Year, and I've seen plenty of great shows this year. Their sound can be best described as a mix of: The Who/Kinks/Floyd/Beatles/Stooges. TSOOL is the best new real rock & roll band on the planet! Del
You could also try some Grand Theft Bus, a nice mix of good songwriting and experimental music and jams. I'm not comparing Tom Waits to them, just saying they both can be a little "out there" sometimes. Good luck.
AdamH
That's a big ix-nay there del-head. The bus is the bus, but the guy doesn't like Jam music and that's what the bus drives on.
Del
True, but the Bus is one of the few bands I can play for friends that hate jamming that seems to be playable. Just how I'd play it...

guigsy
Ween's The Mollusk...and tell him everytime he hears Polka Dot Tail to picture Tom Waits sitting on a nice park bench in the fall and uttering the words "help me"...ween fans'll know the part...that little scenario always brings a smile to my face...and isnt that what gift giving is all about?
