Info On Trey's New Album

Columbia Records is set to release Shine, the much-anticipated album of new music from the visionary

guitarist/singer/composer Trey Anastasio, on Tuesday, November 1.

Shine is Anastasio's first collection of new songs since the dissolution of the artist's seminal rock band, Phish, in 2004 and is his first album for Columbia Records.  The album will be available as both a traditional CD and as a DualDisc.

Produced and mixed by Brendan O'Brien (whose extensive resume ranges from Bob Dylan, Neil Young, and Paul Westerberg to Pearl Jam and Rage Against The Machine), Shine premieres 12 new studio recordings by Trey Anastasio (many of them road-tested in the past year by Trey's touring ensemble, 70 Volt Parade).

O'Brien plays bass, keyboards and contributes background vocals to the album and is joined on several tracks by legendary drummer Kenny Aronoff (John Mellencamp, Bob Dylan, Iggy Pop)

All guitar parts and lead vocals on Shine are by Trey Anastasio, who, for the first time on any of his albums (including the Phish catalog) is the record's sole lyricist.

Tracks on Shine include: "Shine," "Tuesday," "Invisible," "Come As Melody," "Air Said To Me," "Wherever You Find It," "Sweet Dreams Melinda" (an older song, cowritten with Russ Lawton and Tony Markellis, heard here with new lyrics and a fresh arrangement), "Love Is Freedom," "Sleep Again," "Spin," "Black," and "Love That Breaks All Lines."

The DualDisc edition of Shine will feature the album, in its entirety, on the audio side.  The DVD component will include the full album in PCM Stereo, live footage of Trey's most recent concert (August 13, 2005) at Colorado's fabled Red Rocks Amphitheatre, behind-the-scenes rehearsals at Red Rocks, and an exclusive interview with Trey.

"It's a thrill to be on Columbia Records," said Trey on the eve of the release of Shine.  "Columbia has been home to a lot of my favorite artists -- like Bob Dylan, Miles Davis, and Bruce Springsteen -- and it feels great to be working with people who really understand what I'm trying to do and allow me the freedom to go in new musical directions.  I'm very proud of the way Shine has turned out and I hope everyone enjoys listening to it as much as we enjoyed making it."

i will give you this.

just as you have a hard time understanding how everyone loves everything the slip does, i also have an hard time understanding how you like everything trey does...

now to you, it probably seems ludicrus that we wouldn't love everything trey does....same way you dont understand how everybody loves the slip (well, almost...)

If nothing else, it shows different strokes for different folks.

I personally am quite excited by the new Trey release! Having been into Phish since 1991, I've already had my share of ups and downs with Trey. When I listened to Hoist for the first time, I thought " O shit the boys have totally lost it - later, when i caught the show at the Metropolis in Montreal..I think it was 4.5.94'. I was blown away again by them....

Trey rarely lets me down(in the long run), his last tour was pretty fucking smoking at points.

However, if you are looking to Trey alone for the answer, then you will be dissapointed...
