  1. Hey Everyone! I just wanted to say a big THANK YOU. It has been a surprisingly easy go (after that first day was finished). I do remember that there were a few heavy emotional moments that came out-of-the-blue days after we had to put Otis down. I'm sure it will happen here too. However, knowing that she wasn't suffering and was seemingly happy right until the end warms my heart and helps to know that the right decision was made. I appreciate all the kind words. We really lucked out with two amazing dogs. A combined life-span of 31 years for Otis and Marley. That's an accomplishment. Looking forward to some time only being responsible for kids and no dogs. I'm sure more furry creatures will join our family sometime in the future though. No rush. My wife was amazed seeing the responses here, in emails and at another board where I posted the info. It's nice to know that people out there understand the hole that is left when a pet leaves us for whatever reason. Sometimes you just don't realize how much a part of your life that they are until they aren't around anymore and you start to look at old pictures. Happy to be a dog/cat sitter for friends/family from time-to-time to get our 4-legged fix too Youtube is way too good at knowing when you use music in videos. I hate it. Here it is if you couldn't hear the tunes: http://vimeo.com/34796405 Thanks again everyone. Really, thank you. Cheers, Kevin

  3. Marley 1997 - 2012 from KK on Vimeo. This past weekend we had to make the decision to allow our dear little pug Marley to have the big sleep. Marley was a great dog and provided us with so much love and affection for just under 15 years! We got Marley from the same breeder as her older "brother" Otis. Why only have one pug when we could have two? I wish I had more pictures of her scanned since all of her puppy pictures were in the pre-digital camera era. One of my projects for this winter. We got to meet Marley's mother prior to her litter being born. It was bizarre. Picture a pug with a football in their belly, sideways! Oof. It was very interesting as we noticed a lot of her mother's characteristics in Marley as she grew. We got to hold Marley when she would barley fill the palm of your hand. Marley was a real character and was rambunctious as a young pup. Otis was such a good "older brother" to her and put up with her jumping on him, nipping his ears, pushing him around, trying to eat all the food, and he just let her. He knew there was no point in trying to get her to stop. They were inseparable though and curled up together all the time. Otis was Marley's pillow and warm blanket. When Jack and Cassidy came along, Marley was quick to learn that they were an endless source of food. She would position herself under the high-chairs and make sure she could get the food that would inevitably fall to the floor at every feeding. Since she was more of the alpha pug, she got the majority of the scraps while Otis let her. As a result, there were a number of years where Marley was a very over-sized pug. That weight came off in later years as the kids grew older. Marley was incredibly good with Cassidy and had a special attachment to her. She put up with Cassidy using her like a doll and being dressed-up all the time. Cassidy loved to put a princess costume on her, or fancy necklaces and jewelry. As you can see in the slide show, Cassidy loved to use Marley as a pillow and hugged her all the time. Cassidy also found that she liked to take pictures of Marley too. Marley was a patient model and never a diva. Just like Otis, Marley traveled with us quite a lot. She'd spend countless weekends at the cottage, going camping, and visiting friends and other dogs. She always stayed close by though and was never a wanderer. She liked to be near her family and would never go far (especially when food was around). Marley loved to watch TV. However, it could become a little chaotic at times. If there was ever a dog, cat or other animal creature on the screen she'd jump right up and run at the TV to attack it. She could care less about anything else on the screen, just no animals. Bizarre. Marley only wanted to be with us and that made her happy. I was concerned when it was time for Otis to go that she would really have a hard time of it, but she seemed to transition very well to becoming an only-dog. Over the last year her hearing had completely gone and her eyesight was very limited. Even though she had to be carried down the stairs to go outside, she was still mobile and was always underfoot while anyone was cooking or eating in the kitchen. She had an appetite right up to the end. With stiffening joints and arthritis worsening, she all of a sudden couldn't use her hind legs barely at all and that was the sign that we knew it was time. She never had to suffer and was loved dearly right until the end. Just like Otis, Jack and Cassidy have always had Marley around. They knew that her time was coming and they were very understanding. Even so, they've had moments where the memories and feelings have overwhelmed them. The house now feels a lot different without Marley in the kitchen. We're getting used to it. It still seems strange not having here there whenever I open the fridge or have an extra little treat for her. I've attached a link to a quick video of some pictures of Marley. I am sure I will think of many more moments that were experienced with Marley as my memory is jogged. She will always be in our thoughts, memories and hearts. Fare thee well Marley. You really were a WONDERFUL dog. Always missed. Always remembered. Love Pics/Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bCBrG53Ecgc

  8. Trust me, I've heard this album and it's pure torture. I had no idea it was a young Bon Jovi doing the singing on the ridiculous track "R2D2 We Wish You A Merry Christmas" hA! http://www.forbes.com/sites/zackomalleygreenburg/2011/05/24/jon-bon-jovi-star-wars-secret/ Jon Bon Jovi's Star Wars Secret Jon Bon Jovi: These aren't the songs you've been looking for. Over the past three decades, Jon Bon Jovi has played 2,700 concerts in 50 different countries. With his eponymous band, he raked in $125 million over the past 12 months, good enough to land him the No. 8 spot on FORBES’ latest Celeb 100 list. But few people know that he got his start a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. The year was 1980, and an 18-year-old John Francis Bongiovi, Jr. was looking to earn a few extra bucks between gigs at New Jersey dive bars and his job as an errand boy at his cousin Tony Bongiovi’s radio station in New York. A producer by the name of Meco Menardo asked Tony if he knew of any good singers looking for some work. And with that, Menardo was quickly introduced to the man who’d become Bon Jovi. “This guy Meco would hire session guys and they’d orchestrate stuff with disco beats,†Bon Jovi recalls over a tuna sandwich in Manhattan. “He did Star Wars rip-off stuff in the wake of all of George Lucas’ success. And he needed a kid.†Specifically, Menardo was looking for someone with a high voice to sing lead vocals in the song “R2D2 We Wish You A Merry Christmas,†a spectacularly corny track praising the world’s most famous droid (see below). The song was one of nine he was producing for an album called Christmas In The Stars: Star Wars Christmas Album. Other choice cuts included “What Can You Get A Wookiee For Christmas (When He Already Owns A Comb),†which reportedly charted at No. 69 on Billboard’s Hot 100 in 1980. When it came time to record the R2D2 song, Meco tried to sing the part himself. But his mature voice didn’t exactly fit in with a chorus of children singing “R2D2 we love you, it’s true†amid the constant clatter of jingle bells. That’s when he connected with the future “Livin’ On A Prayer†singer. “Meco tried to sing it himself, and he didn’t sound like a young boy,†says Bon Jovi. “So he said, ‘Can you really sing?’ I said, ‘Yeah,’ and he said, ‘Do it.’ So they wrote me down like a session musician … It took 20 minutes, there was nothing to it.†Menardo paid Bon Jovi $180 for his efforts, and the two parted ways. Subsequently, Menardo has said he predicted stardom for the youngster immediately; indeed, Bon Jovi’s big break came in 1983, when he wrote and recorded the song “Runaway.†After sending the tape to every record company he could think of, to no avail, he took his cassette to Long Island radio station WAPP, which was so new it didn’t have a receptionist. He banged on the window of the sound booth and convinced the DJ to play the song, which quickly exploded onto the mainstream radio scene. “‘Runaway’ was that fluke great story of a kid that knocked on a window with a cassette tape and then broke nationally,†he says. “That same cassette that was sitting on every record guy’s desk was suddenly getting me phone calls.†One of those phone calls came from Mercury Records, which signed Bon Jovi to his first record deal that same year, prompting the singer to shorten his name from John Francis Bongiovi, Jr. It wasn’t until the 1986 release of Slippery When Wet that Bon Jovi became a household name, thanks to hits like “Livin on a Prayer†and “Wanted Dead or Alive.†The album has sold 28 million copies worldwide. Christmas In The Stars, however, did not enjoy quite so much success. After making its CD debut in 1994 (the original was released only on cassette), it was clear that Menardo’s masterpiece wasn’t going to be joining Bing Crosby in any holiday radio marathons. “Few Christmas albums are as truly terrible as Star Wars: Christmas in the Stars,†wrote Allmusic.com. “Fans of the series should give it a listen just to hear how bad it is, but this is really only recommended for those who enjoy terrible music for its comic value.†Still, Bon Jovi has no regrets. “It was cute, it was funny,†he says. “I got my $180, and that was the end of it.†Listen to it here:

In 1994, Weir and Wasserman participated in the Woodstock '94 festival. Jay Lane was added on drums and Matthew Kelly on guitar and harmonica in 1995. They played their first show as a full band on April 22, 1995, billed as Friends of Montezuma and then as RatDog Revue. They played their first show as RatDog on August 8, 1995. 13. http://bit.ly/sZO3Pn Phish - 12/31/1991 Worcester Memorial Auditorium, Worcester, MA “I treat every minute like an hour and then it seems like a year has just flashed by again. Twenty years later, I’m still upside down.†December 31, 1991 was Phish’s third New Year’s Eve gig and their largest show at that time with a stated capacity of 4,000. It took place in the ornate Art Deco “New Audâ€, built in the 1930’s seemingly for just such a purpose with an open floor sans chairs and a wrap-around balcony. Tickets to the band’s first 3-set NYE celebration were $16.50 and the show was sold out with fans traveling great distances to celebrate the end of another great year of Phish. This was the band’s only stand-alone New Year’s Eve show and the only three-set NYE show where the new year fell during set II. The band had recently signed with Elektra and had been working with engineers Kevin Halpin and Jon Altschiller on their third album, A Picture Of Nectar. Jon was also a taper and self-proclaimed Phish freak. He taped the show to two separate sources (both DAT) - audience with mics at the FOH position and a soundboard patch from Paul Languedoc. Two decades later, Jon, now the full-time livephish.com remote engineer, combined the tracks to create the matrix master for the New Aud release. Mastered by Fred Kevorkian, this unique source is a proper document of a classic show, combining the qualities of both recordings and harnessing the stunning music and electricity that characterized this special performance. The three-set New Year’s Eve show became a hallmark of Phish’s years to come - a ritual that has occurred nearly every year the band has been active. The New Aud celebrates more than three hours of Prime Phish and is a perfect 20th anniversary view inside this formative show. “It’s a small world, but we all start out small.†mp3@256 Track List 12/31/91 Worcester Memorial Auditorium (The New Aud), Worcester, MA Set I 1. 14. I don't "hate" them, I'm just pissed at the decision to extend Wilson at this stage in the game. Ugh. This could be the TSN Turning Point ... and not for the better
  15. UGH ... bad move IMHO. They should have waited until the season/playoffs were over. Wow, you beat the Islanders and you get your extension
  16. ^^^^^^^^^^ Too funny Much like the Sharks one from last year:
  17. Good job Kadri. Now that's the kind of performance you need to pull off when you get called up. Much needed win for Reimer too.
  18. Patriotism is the devotion to one's country. This is Provincialism, or Languagism (?) F it ... make the Habs an ALL FRENCH CANADIAN team then. Let them have Quebec and everything that comes out of it. Nobody from anywhere else though. And all broadcasts are French only.
  19. Wilson is good to the end of this season. They could have resigned him already, but I'm glad that they didn't. Let him prove with results this season if he's worthy of being permitted to be behind the bench past this season. Wilson misses the playoffs = FIRED within seconds
  20. Man, I only saw the second half of the game. Some crazy stuff out there. Losing Phaneuf didn't help, but the PK was brutal in the second. I felt sorry for Reimer. Good effort in the end to try to come back. Kessel was on a mission that just didn't get finished. He was ROBBED in that non-crosschecking call late in the third that, of course, resulted in the game-winner for Buffalo Oh well, up against LOLuongo and the Sedin Sisters tonight. A kid we know is skating around with the flag on the ice prior to the anthem. I bet he falls!
  21. Very intelligent man and a great writer. His mind will be missed. Christopher Hitchens Dead: Legendary Writer Dies At 62 Christopher Hitchens died Thursday in Houston. He was 62. The legendary writer was diagnosed with esophageal cancer in 2010. His death was announced by Vanity Fair. Hitchens was born in Portsmouth, Hampshire, England in 1949. His father, Ernest, a commander in the British Royal Navy, and his mother, Yvonne, a bookkeeper, scrimped and saved so that he could attend the independent Leys School in Cambridge, and later Balliol College, Oxford. They were determined that he would receive a top-notch education and join the upper class, The Guardian reported. During his time at university, Hitchens studied philosophy, politics and economics, but the more he learned, the angrier he became. Hitchens' disgust with racism and opposition to the Vietnam War led him to the political left. He would eventually join the International Socialists, a faction of the anti-Stalinist left, and participate in political protests against the war. Attending college in the 1960s introduced Hitchens to a more hedonistic way of life as well. Although he eschewed drugs, Hitchens became both a heavy smoker and hard drinker. He claimed such practices supported his writing efforts. "Writing is what's important to me, and anything that helps me do that -- or enhances and prolongs and deepens and sometimes intensifies argument and conversation -- is worth it to me. So I was knowingly taking a risk," he said. Writing was also the perfect outlet for him to enrage and enlighten. The British monarchy, Henry Kissinger and the Roman Catholic Church were just a few of his favorite targets in the 1970s. Despite being a bon vivant, Hitchens resolved to spend time at least once a year in "a country less fortunate than [his] own." As such, the early part of his career was dedicated to wandering the globe, reporting on the world's trouble spots and shining a light on those he considered cruel or evil, The New York Times reported. After immigrating to the U.S. in 1981, Hitchens began writing for The Nation magazine. He would later edit and contribute articles to numerous publications, including Vanity Fair, the Atlantic Monthly, Slate, Harper’s, The Washington Post and The Huffington Post. His surprising advocacy for the war in Iraq, which was prompted by his growing conviction that radical elements in the Islamic world posed a danger to the West, gained Hitchens a wider readership, and in September 2005 he was named one of the "Top 100 Public Intellectuals" by Foreign Policy and Prospect magazines. According to The Los Angeles Times, Hitchens penned two dozens books -- including "Letters To A Young Contrarian," "God Is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything" and "Hitch-22: A Memoir" -- and frequently made television and radio appearances. He also taught as a visiting professor at the University of California, Berkeley, the University of Pittsburgh and the New School of Social Research. As a cultural pundit, Hitchens loved picking fights. He offered unsparing insight on a wide range of subjects, from politics to religion to his own his mortality, but was perhaps best known for his criticism of Mother Teresa, both in his 1994 documentary "Hell's Angel," and in Vanity Fair. "[Mother Teresa] was not a friend of the poor," Hitchens said. "She was a friend of poverty. She said that suffering was a gift from God. She spent her life opposing the only known cure for poverty, which is the empowerment of women and the emancipation of them from a livestock version of compulsory reproduction." His negative portrayal of a woman many considered to be a saint prompted hundreds of readers to cancel their magazine subscriptions. And yet, after word of his death was reported, India's Missionaries of Charity order said it would pray for Hitchens' soul, despite his aggressive campaign against its Nobel prize-winning founder, AFP reported. In 2008, amidst a nationwide discussion of "enhanced interrogation techniques, Hitchens decided to subject himself to a waterboarding treatment to see if it was truly a form of torture. He lasted for 16 seconds. "It's annoying to me now to read every time it's discussed in the press -- or in Congress -- that it simulates the feeling of drowning," he said. "It doesn't simulate the feeling of drowning. You are being drowned, slowly." Ever the contrarian, Hitchens adopted the U.S., warts and all, and took an oath of citizenship in 2007 on his 58th birthday. The ceremony was conducted by former President George W. Bush's homeland security chief, Michael Chertoff. An outspoken atheist -- or as he preferred to be called, an antitheist -- Hitchens rallied many to a belief in rational thinking by describing organized religion as the main source of hatred and tyranny in the world, Reuters reported. In the final years of his life, he debated both religious and political figures about the nature of faith and the existence of God. "Faith is the surrender of the mind; it's the surrender of reason, it's the surrender of the only thing that makes us different from other mammals," Hitchens said. "It's our need to believe, and to surrender our skepticism and our reason, our yearning to discard that and put all our trust or faith in someone or something, that is the sinister thing to me. Of all the supposed virtues, faith must be the most overrated." Even after being diagnosed with cancer of the esophagus in 2010, Hitchens refused to turn to a deity or organized religion for comfort. He made it clear that if anyone ever claimed he had converted at the end of his life, it would be either a lie propagated by the religious community or an effect of the cancer and treatment that made him no longer himself. "The entity making such a remark might be a raving, terrified person whose cancer has spread to the brain. I can't guarantee that such an entity wouldn't make such a ridiculous remark, but no one recognizable as myself would ever make such a remark," he said. "There will never be another like Christopher. A man of ferocious intellect, who was as vibrant on the page as he was at the bar," said Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter. "Those who read him felt they knew him, and those who knew him were profoundly fortunate souls." Hitchens is survived by his wife, the writer Carol Blue, and three children.

Comprised of 11 tracks, 9 originals and 2 covers, “Bass†documents Keller’s exploration of creamy bass lines and groovy rocksteady beats mixed with his own unique style and vision. And now a word from Keller: Greetings Music Lovers. Thank you for partaking in yet another one of my self-indulgent musical journeys. In my never ending quest to do something different, I present you my first release containing no guitar. Not a single guitar was used in the making of this record. To me, that’s different. And that’s what I’m going for. This record has no looping. This is a document of songs and the overall, open air, spacious vibe created by this trio we call Kdubalicious. I am honored to be joined by musical genius Jay Starling on keys, and the one-drop master Mark D on drums. The record was recorded, mixed and co-produced by recording god Jeff Covert at Wally Cleavers in Fredericksburg, Virginia during the summer of 2011. 24. http://bit.ly/uLfHp1 Keller Williams - Kids A true original, Keller Williams has won the hearts and imaginations of a seething tide of young adults who are musically ‘in the know.’ With his sixteenth album, Kids, Keller stakes out his next conquest- the absolute adoration of the under-10 crowd and their parents, caregivers, and relatives. With Kids, Keller creates a style of family music that’s all his own, and reaches his young audience in a way that matters. While other performers play for kids, Keller plays with them. For the album, Keller takes influences of traditional bluegrass, ‘Chester & Lester’ innovative guitar technique, Robin Williams, and Bobby McFerrin and transports them to warp level. And though Keller’s virtuosity extends through his phenomenal instrumental technique and range of vocal styles and effects, he never allows his supreme musicianship to get in the way of the pure joy of the music. Keller Williams’ high standards are preserved in his first CD for children and families, Kids. - amazon.com mp3@320 Track List My Neighbor Is Happy Again Car Seat Because I Said So Hula Hoop To Da Loop Horseback Rider Taking A Bath Good Advice Keep It On The Paper Hey Little Baby Mama Tooted Soakie von Soakerman Lucy Lawcy Grandmas Feather Bed The Fastest Song In The World http://bit.ly/uLfHp1
