  1. You know what, I didn't notice. I had done my fair share outside before going in. Since we were in front row I really didn't notice what was going on behind us I'm pretty sure it was smoke-free. Those hot box shows of the past were KILLER! Maybe we can get that going again up in the balcony.
  2. Damn, I had completely forgotten that one. Thanks for jogging the memory I'll have to look at my ticket stubs again sometime and see if I can find that one. Yup. By then it was already really hard to get a ticket. The gig at the Concert Hall (Masonic Temple) was a good on. G-Love opened. There was a special jam on Exodus due to it being the anniversary of Bob Marley's death. That show was packed with "frat boys" from US colleges with their baseball caps on being wankers.
  3. I fully agree that skill is the most important factor in staying safe on the road. However, by having some technology that assists that skill and also the added performance to be able to avoid those "without skill" then I want to use it. I guess the same argument can be made about helmets and seat belts. If I am so skilled and NEVER get into accidents when I don't wear a seatbelt, or wear a helmet, then that should be OK too? What about passenger, children's safety devices. Are they needed as well for "skilled" drivers. When does one "earn" the right to then not have to use safety devices? Like you mentioned earlier, the best thing to do when the conditions are horrible out there is to NOT GO OUT. It's amazing what people will go out driving in blizzards for.
  4. No such thing as all-season tires. Winter/snow tires are made of special rubber compounds designed perform in colder conditions and provide better traction on snow AND ice. Improvement can be as much as 25-50% If it's simply not wanting to invest the money in an extra set of tires, all I have to do to reassure myself is look in the back seat at my kids. There have been a few occasions where we would have made contact with other vehicles or solid structures had it not been for proper tires. Cars can be fixed or replaced. Your health can't.
  5. Completely understandable. Hey, you'll like the Danforth even more now that they fixed it up. It ain't glitzy and glamourous, but the seats are a lot more comfortable and the ceiling isn't falling apart anymore . Just listening to Tresspass right now ... underrated album.
  6. I lost interest in DMB a long while back. As mentioned earlier, they weren't doing anything "new" it seemed. Same old same old and the crowd changed a lot. I remember trying to get the people I went to the Clapton show at MLG with back in '94 to go over to Lee's Palace after to catch whatever we could of DMB. None of them were interested in giving it a shot. Caught DMB a number of times over the following couple of years and really dug their sets (one in Switzerland in '95 got to meet them after their set ... really nice guys). I'd go and check 'em out again, but would prefer it with a comp ticket or super cheap
  7. Ollie, are you guys gonna come in to Toronto for the June shows at the Danforth Music Hall??? Warm weather and the Musical Box in Canada ... has it ever happened before??
  8. Thanks for the link bradm. That was a fun show. Small venue. I remember the sound being fantastic and a wicked light show for such a small room. That's only a few doors down from where the big fire just happened on Queen St W. Off to download now

  11. Sorry to hear that. Seriously, winter tires are one of the best investments/insurance for your car if you drive at all in the winter. At least, they give your summer tires more life by giving them a break during the winter. I seriously think that insurance companies should give a bit of a break to those of us who invest in approved winter tires (just like you get a break on home insurance for having an alarm system, etc.)
  12. But make sure that the balance isn't left for your loved ones!
  13. What will their theme music be for it? Maybe they could use a little Healey? And then never mention him of course
  14. Cancer has hit the "Roadhouse" gang hard in '08. What a drag
  15. Well, i gotta say that i am damn glad that I made it to this gig. It was a nice back-to-back with Springsteen the night before. Great storytellers and performers. Met up with TimmyB and Arlene before the show for some fine cuisine at Fran's and conversation. I had to wait for a friend to show up to get a ticket to. We ended up not seeing the opener, Steve's wife, Allison Moore. I kinda wish I had gone in. I thoroughly enjoyed her when she came out to perform with her husband. And she's a stunning beauty too! http://www.allisonmoorer.com/gallery.php After realizing (thanks TimmyB) that I actually had seen Steve Earle perform once before I was excited to hear him again. (he was at the Concert for a Landmine Free World at Massey Hall seven years ago ... wicked concert). We settled in and he went to work. Mesmerized is how I can best describe it. There were a couple of songs that really packed a punch that got me. One was "Billy Austin". The other was a long-introduction and performance of a song that he wrote for his son 24 years ago. He told us about all the birthdays in his family in the early months of this year, his relationships with his sons, siblings, family and parents. He also talked about the recent death of his father and how great he was. He said that he was happy that his dad was able to die without seeing any of his kids die before him. Heavy, heartfelt and you could see that it was very emotional for him. I couldn't wait to get home to hug my kids. Anyhow, the only distraction for me (and it really wasn't all that bad) was the "DJ". He basically just hit buttons to start drum beats. I would have preferred to see a real drummer in behind him, but oh well. A wonderful night and one that I won't soon forget. Looking forward to Steve's return. Here's what the Star had to say:
  16. LOL ... maybe they were trying to clarify that "US" was a "country" as opposed to a magazine??? Kidding ... just shitty writing
  17. Krauss ... single name star now? A la Cher? Bono? Stingk? Still haven't heard the Plant/Krauss material. Must put it on the list ...
  18. Thanks for those extra links. I didn't know about panicstream. More sources for tunes while I work Do tix on sale this Friday for Clapton/Winwood in Toronto? Gots to get me some
