  1. I haven't done it, but I know a couple of people who went last year and they had a fantastic time! It's pricey, but you're getting so much music, and such a small crowd (which the musicians all become a part of). Great lineup this year too. Can't go wrong when you've got Warren on board . I wonder if he'll ever slepp
  2. right on! This should be a blast Any idea on ticket prices?

  5. If the David Grisman Quintet is a porn ensemble, who's he "playin'" with?
  6. Larry, I was kinda joking. I think of a world without the two pugs and it seems so simple . However, I love the crazy little beasts and it would be a lot emptier and lonlier without 'em . There are times when we may panicky about somebody to look after them. I'll keep your girlfriend in mind (for looking after the pugs ). She's at the SPCA in Hamilton? This one ain't mine
  7. Yup, and about 250,000 downloaded, P2P'd, etc.
  8. Speaking of Python, i just saw Eric Idle yesterday. I was in on the taping when George Stromboulopolopolous interviewed him. Eric was very funny and chatted a fair bit to the crowd before and after the taping. His new projects sounds like a riot. He's composed a new oratorio based on the Life of Brian. He's working with the TSO and the Mendolsshon Choir. Eric Idle's Not the Messiah to Debut in Toronto in June by Broadway.com Staff Eric Idle's follow-up to the enormously successful musical Spamalot will be Not the Messiah (He's a Very Naughty Boy), a comic oratorio to have its world premiere in Toronto in June as part of the city's inaugural Luminato Festival of the Arts, according to Variety. The show is described as being loosely adapted from Monty Python's 1979 film Life of Brian; John Du Prez, Idle's composing partner on Spamalot, will collaborate on the new show. Not the Messiah was commissioned by the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, whose music director, Peter Oundjian, is also Idle's cousin. The 63-year-old writer did not disclose details about the new piece to Variety, saying only, "I promise it will be funnier than Handel, although probably not as good." Life of Brian's best-known song, "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life," is already part of Spamalot, Idle and Du Prez's stage adaptation of the film Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Luminato is a new 90-event multidisciplinary arts festival in Toronto scheduled to run 1-10 June. Organisers anticipate half a million people will attend the largely free events, conceived to boost Toronto tourism.

  10. http://www.glidemagazine.com/hiddentrack/?p=623 Grateful Dead Unseals Three From The Vault From the Better Late Than Never department comes the news that the Grateful Dead will finally be releasing Three From The Vault. In typical stoner fashion, Three From The Vault comes nearly 15 years after the release of Two From The Vault. Three From The Vault, the Dead’s second release on Rhino, will feature music from February 19th, 1971 at the Capitol Theater in Port Chester, NY. 2/19/71 is the first show the Grateful Dead played after Mickey Hart left the band, and I personally prefer the Dead with one drummer. The music from late ‘71 until Hart’s return in ‘74 is much more loose and free-flowing with Billy Kreutzman leading the charge by his lonesome. Highlights from Three From The Vault include a nasty Easy Wind and the first-ever Bird Song. Members of the audience at this show participated in a kooky experiment called ESP and the Dream. Craisins. What will be interesting to see is how good this show will sound. We don’t know how you can improve upon the quality of the crispy betty board that circulates both among tapers and on the Live Music Archive. Three From The Vault hits stores on June 26th — look for Four From The Vault in 2023.
  11. http://nugs.net Just got a nice "Daredevil" by The Hip from London, ON '04 that segued into Bill Monroe! N I C E I'm really thirsty for a beer right now ... hmmm.
  12. it happens. There are assholes everywhere. Add in large consumption of alcohol and a hotly contested game and people do stupid things and don't know when to draw the line. I was at a Sens v Leafs playoff game a number of years ago with 2 of my friends who are die-hard Sens fans. Near the end of the game (when it was determined that the Leafs would win), some asshole tossed an empty beer cup at him and it hit his girlfriend. It didn't hurt her or anything, but it set off my buddy who had been putting up with the trash talking all night, and the friendly ribbing. He ran up the couple of rows and got in the guy's face and it was about to explode. A huge cop ran up and grabbed my friend (Sens fan) by the hair and dragged him into the hallway, pinned him on the ground with his hands behind his back!!! Crazy shit. I got the Leaf "fan" and told him he was coming with me to sort out the situation so that my buddy didn't get in trouble. He did, he apologized, they shook hands, but the cops weren't happy when we were trying to tell them that they seemed a bit excessive in their actions. We were quickly told that he wasn't making triple-pay overtime salary to mediate a dispute, he was simply going to eradicate it! Then we were told if we wanted to talk more about it we could go to the station. I had to drag my buddy away before he got in some real trouble . There's always a select few "fans" that ruin it for a lot of people. I'm sure that the majority of the fans, and the rivalry, are having a lot more fun with it.
  13. Looks like that Buffalo is still breathing! It's going to be crazy around Buffalo this weekend, that's for sure. As I said before, I think that this should be seen as a good thing for the Sens. They can't blow a 3-0 series lead, and this loss should just place a few things in check for them. They can use this to their advantage to maintain focus for what they have to do. Mind you, it could be like spooking a horse and they'll completely lose it! . Look for Neil to become a big presence as soon as the puck is dropped in Buffalo on Saturday. I can see him (and everyone else) really step up on the physical aspect of the game to set the tone early. I'd love to be at the game on Saturday. What are the chances of a miracle ticket???
  14. Did everyone with brooms stick around last night and help clean the arena??? I've always thought that showing up with a broom is the kiss of death for a sweep to happen. It's like talking about a goalie on his way to a shutout and it's only the second period (like fuckin Harry Neale does all the time). It's like a jinx, or a Murphy's Law kind of thing.
  15. WoW! Flint's words were fantastic. Way to go Larry
  16. 3/16" washers used to work like a charm as TTC tokens in the automatic turnstiles ... they figured it out years ago though

  18. http://concerts.wolfgangsvault.com/concertdetail.aspx?id=1913|993 Bruce Springsteen Berkeley Community Theatre Berkeley, CA 03/02/1973 Tracks: 7 Total Time: 42:26 Lost in the Flood 5:11 Spirit In The Night 5:41 Wild Billy's Circus Story 4:50 Bishop Danced 4:43 Does This Bus Stop At 82nd Street? 5:18 Blinded by the Light 5:30 Thundercrack 11:13 Bruce Springsteen - vocals, guitar Clarence Clemons - saxophone, vocals Danny Federici - keyboard, accordion Vini Lopez - drums, vocals David Sancious - organ, piano, clavinet Garry Tallent - bass, vocals, horn Recorded just weeks after the release of his first album, Greetings From Asbury Park, NJ, this historic opening set from Bruce Springsteen comes from a time when Bruce and the entire band could still (just barely) fit in one car. The E Street band, as Bruce’s famous cast of backup musicians were called, came to encompass a particularly different and larger configuration, and the classic lineup from the mid-1970s only has three of the members from the backup band Springsteen plays with here. Still, Bruce has always been The Boss, and this show is an unmistakable showcase of Springsteen and a very early configuration of his E Street Band. What makes this show particularly interesting and historical is that a few weeks earlier, Springsteen had actually been part of the very first King Biscuit Flower Hour, which was broadcast over three decades ago (February 18th, 1973). On that broadcast, Bruce only performed two songs and had to share the bill with Blood Sweat & Tears and jazz-fusion pioneers, the Mahavishnu Orchestra. The unique and eclectic co-bill gained Springsteen enough exposure and positive response to warrant his own set on the soon-to-become popular radio series. This show, recorded a month later, is the entire set that Springsteen performed as an opening act for Blood Sweat & Tears in Berkeley, California. Apart from the debut King Biscuit recording, it is possibly the very first professional live recording of The Boss to surface. His Dylan-esque demeanor is very apparent, especially on the acoustic oriented material. Highlights include a very early version of “Blinded by the Light,†a very fast-tempo take on “Does This Bus Stop At 82nd St?,†and a passionate read of “Lost in the Flood,†whose line: “Did ya hear that? His body hit the street with such a beautiful thud,†remains one of the most visual lyrics in rock history. Springsteen, of course, has gone on to become one of rock ‘n’ roll’s greatest prophets, speaking to the working class masses as well as the musically enlightened, reaching enormous commercial and critical heights over the past 30 years. His 1975 album Born To Run secured him a place in rock’s pantheon, and today he is credited as an influence to countless numbers of musicians.
