  9. http://gdhour.com/logblog/?p=386 Ratdog and Keller Williams summer tour Keller Williams and Bob Weir & RatDog Announce Sumnmer Tour Bob Weir and RatDog and Keller Williams will cross the country this summer, sharing a stage both separately and together, making music and doing what they do best. The tour will begin in Atlanta on July 7th and end in Los Angeles on July 28th. Bob Weir is a founding member of the legendary Grateful Dead. He founded RatDog as a duo in 1995, and over the succeeding years he has enlisted Jay Lane (drums), Jeff Chimenti (keyboards), Mark Karan (lead guitar), Kenny Brooks (saxophone), and Robin Sylvester (bass). RatDog plays not only Bob’s various solo material but the complete Grateful Dead repertoire, and has evolved from an elegant duo to a snarling beast of a rock band that contains a jazz trio at its heart Keller Williams has been called guitar’s mad-scientist and a one-man-band for the new millennium. Williams is considered by some, but not by himself, to be a master of the acoustic guitar, known for his ability to solo over layers of spontaneously created loops. He is a generous performer who plays down-to-earth acoustic music that defies any effort to find a convenient pigeonhole. If pressed for a definition, Williams, as adept with language as he is with a guitar pick, calls it solo, acoustic jazzfunk reggae technograss – or simply - solo acoustic dance music. Sometimes musicians tour together purely because of business. These guys actually like each other, as evidenced by the tune “Cadillac†on Keller’s recently released new album on SciFidelity, Dream , a duet between Keller and Bob. Recorded at Weir’s home studio, it also features an appearance from Weir family retriever Jackson (see the tour advertising design and notice who’s driving the Cadillac!). Or, as the inimitable Weir said of him, “Keller Williams is more fun than a frog in a glass of milk.†Keller seems to like the idea, too: “I love this tour because I get to get in for free.†That positive vibe will be felt across the country this summer. Tour Dates: July 07 Chastain Park Amphitheatre, Atlanta GA July 09 Summerstage, Central Park, New York City NY July 10 Bank of America Pavilion, Boston MA July 11 Lincoln Park, Lincoln RI July13 All Good Festival, Marvin’s Mountaintop WV July 14 Charlottesville Pavilion, Charlottesville VA July 16 Tower City Amphitheater, Cleveland OH July 17 Promowest Pavilion, Columbus OH July 19 Aragon Ballroom, Chicago IL July 20 10,000 Lakes Festival, Detroit Lakes MN July 21 Stir Cove at Harrah’s Casino, Council Bluffs IA July 24 Red Rocks Amphitheatre, Morrison CO July 25 Paolo Soleri Amphitheatre, Santa Fe NM July 27 Humphrey’s Concerts by the Bay, San Diego CA July 28 Greek Theatre, Los Angeles CA
  10. Interesting ... the Fillmore Franchise is spreading: http://www.namedevelopment.com/blog/archives/2007/03/fillmore_brand.html March 30, 2007 Fillmore Brand Name Coming Back East The Fillmore name is returning to the New York music scene after a 35-year break. Counterculture buffs will vividly recall the Fillmore East name, which in its short time of operation (1968-71) hosted legendary acts such as Jimi Hendrix, Frank Zappa and the Grateful Dead. Lilly Allen will open the Fillmore New York, the new reincarnation of Irving Plaza, on April 11. The Fillmore East is fondly remembered by many aging hippies but also seen again and again on record compilations coming out from Neil Young, the Grateful Dead, the Who and others. While the site of the original Fillmore seems to be a bank, Irving Plaza will be a wonderful spot to carry on the tradition and memories of the original marquee. The Fillmore name is currently alive and well in San Francisco and Denver, with an April opening for a Philadelphia Fillmore as well, which is a reincarnation of the Theater of Living Arts. Fresh apples will be served to people who go see Lilly Allen in New York and Todd Rundgren on April 27 in Philly. At both shows there will be a “greeter,†new decorations and a collectible poster distributed to all concertgoers to commemorate the event. But some bloggers in Philadelphia are a little suspicious of the name change - the Phillyist, for example, questions “how this change will affect our wallet.†The company in charge of bringing back the Fillmore is Live Nation, the same company that owns the House of Blues. I think that seeing the Fillmore name back in action, with the same kind of music behind it, is a good thing. Music venues often suffer from some very forgettable name, but Fillmore is well known to generations of music lovers. It’s great to see the Fillmore back east.

  12. http://concerts.wolfgangsvault.com/ConcertDetail.aspx?id=3264|993 Bruce Springsteen Winterland San Francisco, CA 12/15/1978 Tracks: 30 Total Time: 2:45:04 Roy Bittan - piano Clarence Clemons - saxophone Danny Federici - organ Bruce Springsteen - vocals, guitar Garry Tallent - bass Steven Van Zandt - guitar Max Weinberg - drums Get comfortable, ‘cuz all the stories are true - the E Street Band came to play, and they’re not gonna stop until the roof caves in! This is powerful rock ‘n' roll revivalism and Springsteen makes the heat rain down upon the assembled Winterland parishioners. Years before punk deconstructed popular music as a violent protest against the bloated rock ‘n' roll dinosaurs staggering from stadium to stadium, Bruce Springsteen was earnestly providing his own alternative to bone-headed riffing and cowbell solos, putting out albums that echoed a simpler time while thoughtfully chronicling the plight of the workin’ man on his eternal quest for Saturday Night. Concentrating on material from their recent release, Darkness on the Edge of Town, Springsteen and his crew lay into the first half of this set with reckless abandon, reserving the early hits and holiday cheer for the second half. As soon as they take the stage, it’s all lost love and drag races and full-throttle rock ‘n' roll; then factory walls and plaintive piano with dusty, wheezing harmonica. This is the whole history of 20th century America set to music, geared up and rolling down the highway ‘till everyone, audience included, is ready to pass out. Then, about an hour after they should be taking their bows, the band launches into "Born to Run" with an emotional fury that would kill a group of weaker constitution. It’s like Phil Spector meets Jack Kerouac, hooked up to about a dozen car batteries. Then they play an encore! In two short weeks the Winterland would shut its doors for good. Fittingly, Bill Graham brought in the Grateful Dead for the official last concert, but for many present at Springsteen’s show, the Winterland really closed on December 15th.
