  1. This should be interesting. Peter sticking it to the major record labels, to a degree. I hope he's successful in this endeavour and that it will allow more artists to take more control of all aspects of their art and career. PETER GABRIEL GOES IT ONLINE AND ALONE The pioneer of digital music is to fund his next record http://www.uncut.co.uk/news/peter_gabriel/news/9295 Former founding Genesis member and multi-instrumentalist Peter Gabriel has announced that he will release his next album in the US without the aid of a record company. First reported in The Times newspaper yesterday (January 21), Gabriel, an early pioneer of digital music distribution, has raised £2 million towards recording and 'shipping' his next as-yet-untitled album in a venture with investment boutique Ingenious Media. Gabriel is expected to earn double the money that he would get through a conventional record deal. Commercial director Duncan Reid of Ingenious explains the business savvy of the deal, saying, "If you're paying a small distribution fee and covering your own marketing costs, you enjoy the lion's share of the proceeds of the album. Gabriel is expected to outsource CD production for worldwide release through Warner Bros. Records. The new album deal covers the North America territory, where Gabriel is currently out of contract. Ingenious have previously scored chart entries with independently released albums by Mick Hucknall's Simply Red.
  2. UGH! My head is starting to hurt from banging it on my keyboard after reading that.

  5. AD, my memory probably failed me, but I think it was more like this, from the EW interview: I'm not an audiophile, but it will be hard to listen to the standard CD after being immersed in the 5.1 surround version. GILES: It's a trap, becoming obsessed with 5.1. I prefer the stereo. SIR GEORGE: I know you do. People can get both versions and make up their minds. I'm very proud of the 5.1. I think it's better. GILES: The stereo is better to me — being more old-fashioned than my very modern dad. SIR GEORGE: MONO is better! [Laughing] It's too bad you didn't do a third version of this, then, in mono. SIR GEORGE: [Laughing] We should have. It's funny. When we were doing Sgt. Pepper, they spent three weeks mixing the mono. That was the one they considered important. Then they said, ''You do the stereo, George — it's nothing,'' and left me alone to do it. So I spent three days on that mix. That's the one everybody listens to, and they had nothing to do with it! GILES: [Kidding] You only had four tracks to play with! Why did you need three days?
  6. Here are a few good articles about the Martins and their involvement: Article 1 Article 2 Article 3
  7. They were both involved, but I believe that they each took a lead on different mixes. One on the stereo, the other on the 5.1. I had a brief interview with them recently ... now where did i put it. There was some funny content as his son was joking about how easy it must have been for George dealing only with a 4-track stereo mix .
  8. I drank Jagermeister with Tommy Lee.
  9. Same thing happened to me when I found out that I was NOT the first one to invent sliced bread
  10. I hear ya. I love it when he's singing, but when he's talking I find it kind of annoying
  11. I totally wanted to make it to that show but I couldn't. Sorry about that. Next time though I'll do my best. I last saw her at Hugh's Room a few years ago. It was the day after Merl Saudners had his stroke. I spoke to her between sets. Didn't want to be a bummer, but I knew that she'd need to hear the news about her good friend. She was so appreciative and commented on the fact in her second set. She also deadicated the next song to him (one that she recorded with him) "Gee Baby Ain't I Good To You" http://www.amazon.com/gp/music/wma-pop-up/B00000AFQV001004/ref=mu_sam_wma_001_004/105-3174690-1326840 I gotta hear this album! Didn't know about it until today. Thanks! http://www.mariamuldaur.com/news.shtml
  12. She didn't sing it at any JGB show, simply one of the tunes that she is notorious for playing live.
  13. Colbert is Karma to many of his guests, IMHO. I've watched the show from its inception. It didn't fly well at the start, but is humming on all cylinders now. We need the voice of Colbert (as fictitious as it may be) to be a counter-point to the spineless mainstream media that pumps out the Bush agenda. What's good for the goose . . .
  14. I'm IN!!! Just got me tix http://www.tickets.com/event_info.cgi?pid=5925383
  15. You got it! She sings a smokin' version of "Don't Touch My Thigh". Talk about sultry and sexy (and very funny at the same time ) Gotta find some of those pics with her singing with Jerry and Donna
  16. For anyone who wants to see/hear a fantastic singer, i encourage you to check out the great Maria Muldaur. She's back for a two night stand at Hugh's Room in Toronto. Maria has pretty much sung it all. Everything from gospel to folk to rock. She was a backup singer for Jerry Garcia for a number of years in the 70s and worked closely with Merl Saunders and sang in Grenwich Village with Dylan in the early 60s. Take a look at her accomplishments: http://allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=11:2hrsa93gb23u Hugh's Room Tue 05/08/07 Maria Muldaur Wed 05/09/07 Maria Muldaur Great venue too! Excellent food, service and music Later . . . Kanada Kev =8)
  17. Hi Al, I was just listening to Cassidy's cat yesterday ... fun stuff. You know that I'd be sure to attend a Gans show if he'd swing through these parts. I'd be happy to help out in any way that I can. He'd be a perfect performer for Hugh's Room. Nothing like having a great dinner and then having some great music hit the stage right after Later . . . Kanada Kev =8) ps - i got your email earlier today and i'll try to respond tonight.
  18. I thought i saw a couple of shots like this that were much better one time (Leafs and Habs i believe) A bunch of World Cup ones here: http://www.marax.at/funpix/body_paint_trikot.html Basketball: Also, some Pink Floyd beauties here: http://accel3.mettre-put-idata.over-blog.com/0/15/39/90/photos-a-la-con/body-paint---pink-floyd-albums.jpg
  19. Here's a sample of the "New" jerseys (as they'd look on the Leafs)
  20. Ugh! Same old tired debate. They want to have this prayer (and no others) before council meetings. If i lived in Durham and followed another religion that Christianity, i'd be right pissed-off if they wouldn't recite "my" prayer before their meetings too. Include ALL ... how fucking hard is that? If my mayor said I'd be calling his office asap and giving him a piece of my mind.Later . . . Kanada Kev =8)
  21. Can you get 'em at the Friendly Stranger? I'm in downtown Toronto during the day and I'd go for a walk for some of these .
  22. Ouch! Now that I "thought" about it I cringe. There def WERE some kids who didn't like being there for other reasons Still, the old bathrooms at MLG were bizarre with the big "troughs" to pee in ... very practical in many ways.
  23. Speaking of "toasty" check out this toaster ... COOL! http://www.designboom.com/contest/view.php?contest_pk=16&item_pk=11744&p=1
  24. As I have revealed before, I was NOT a Leafs fan when I was a kid. I didn't start to follow the Leafs until 1991-92 campaign. I was born and bread a Habs fan (and still am)
