  1. Other than switching a jersey to a "classic" design for special games (Original 6 teams, etc.) i see no need for them. Most of them look ridiculous (Boston, Dallas, Edmonton) and they are simply there to generate more money for the team. I also agree that the switch from light jersey to dark jersey for home teams was confusing. Don't know why they did this other than to make a fan feel like they needed to wear the matching sweater as the team when they were at the game (therefore more money spent). Later . . . 2. Fantastic series!!! One I wish I had a BIG HD set for . In case you missed it, it will be rebroadcast this week on CBC Newsworld: Thursday, January 18 @ 10pm Firday, January 19th @ 1am Series 2 Eps 6 - Ice Worlds The Arctic and Antarctic experience the most extreme seasons on Earth. Time-lapse cameras watch a colony of emperor penguins, transforming them into a single organism. The film reveals new science about the dynamics of emperor penguin behaviour. In the north, unique aerial images show a polar bear swimming more than 100km. Diving for up to two minutes at a time. The exhausted polar bear later attacks a herd of walrus in a true clash of the Titans. REPEAT AIRING CC Set yer VCRs, PVRs, TiVos, etc. etc. later . . . Kanada Kev =8)
  3. Phew, glad they chose the best one. Drives me nuts when they Hollywood-ize alternate endings for the US market (like the "happy" ending in 28-Days Later ... great flick) Later . . . Kanada Kev =8)
  4. I finally got around to watching the movie. I LOVED it (and so did my wife Darlene)! There is something magical about this film. It hits all the emotions and is seemingly simplistic. There's so much in that simplicity, the dialogue, the visuals. I'm compelled to watch it again very soon. I'd also like to watch this with the director's commentary. I just read that the DVD has 4 alternate endings too! The big message ... no need to conform. BE YOU! Me too. While my horn never got stuck on my '78 Westy, it sounded exactly like that one. You could make it "talk" . Now, time to listen to some Super Freak Rick James Later . . . Kanada Kev =8)

  11. Is it? Sweet. Because of the kind generosity of AD, I'm back on OINK. I'll look it up and pull it asap. They have an MP3 version right now: http://oink.me.uk/details.php?id=965165 Along with a FLAC versions of the Aretha and King Curtis releases: http://oink.me.uk/details.php?id=973899
  12. Your dad is a very smart man
  13. Hey, if anyone comes across a torrent for the under-manufactured (only 5000) 4-cd box set of Aretha Franklin and King Curtis at the Fillmore PLEASE let me know. Such fantastic music and I just have to hear it all. I have the single Original Masters Recording CD, and the newer 2CD set, but not the 4Cd set including all the King Curtis material too. http://www.rhino.com/store/ProductDetail.lasso?Number=7890
  14. Possibly Gabriel saw himself in King Knut someway: http://www.dprp.net/proghistory/index.php?i=1972_03 The largely underrated Can-Utility And The Coastliners was written in the rehearsal room and road-tested before it was recorded, just like Watcher Of The Skies. It is a story about King Canute, although I have read a theory that said that it is in fact about Gabriel himself; a singer wary of "flatterers" and of singing. The track contains some lovely bass pedal and mellotron sections. It also features one of the few guitar solos on the album. Great track!
  15. Interesting stuff Ollie. Doing a few searches and learning a bit about Knut. Sounds like he was quite the dude: I found a few references that Can Utility is def a ref to the legend of King Knut. However, he was also known as "Canute." Take that, and you can see where CAN-UTEility comes from :) Here's an account of Canute the Great's life: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canute_the_Great http://www.progreviews.com/reviews/display.php?rev=gen-fox ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ The end of the Viking age Throughout the Viking Age, there were many conflicts and battles between the Vikings and the English. In the 9th century, the English king, Alfred the Great forced the Vikings to leave the whole of western England. During the 10th Century the English reconquered many Viking areas. But in the early 11th century the whole of England was ruled by the Viking King Knut. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Beowulf is believed to have been written during Knut's reign (1016-35) http://arts.stage.manchester.ac.uk/mancass/assets/thefile,73316,en.pdf ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Here's another King Knut
  16. Well, I can kind of see a correlation with the two, but may be a little of a stretch. Have you ever read anything else about Can Utility anywhere else? Can-Utility And The Coastliners Lyrics The scattered pages of a book by the sea Held by the sand, washed by the waves A shadow forms cast by a cloud, Skimming by as eyes of the past, but the rising tide Absorbs them effortlessly claiming. They told of one who tired of all singing, "Praise him, praise him." "We heed not flatterers," he cried, "By our command, waters retreat, Show my power, halt at my feet," But the cause was lost, Now cold winds blow. Far from the north overcast ranks advance Fear of the storm accusing with rage and scorn. The waves surround the sinking throne Singing "Crown him, crown him," "Those who love our majesty show themselves!" All bent their knees. But he forced a smile even though His hopes lay dashed where offerings fell (where they fell). "Nothing can my peace destroy as long as none smile." More opened ears and opened eyes, And soon they dared to laugh. See a little man with his face turning red Though his story's often told you can tell he's dead.
  17. This is probably just of interest to Genesis fans... I believe the song Can-Utility and the Coastliners has something to do with King Knut. Kev? Anyone? Hmmmm ... let me think about that one. Cool if it is one of PG's obscure references. Right now i'm thinking of Steve Martin on SNL doing a St. Knut skit: King Knut ... Funky Nut
  18. Bev Oda is a twit. She shouldn't be holding her position for a number of reasons ... this is just one (others include refusal to investigate the way CBC spends the money that is supplied by the gov't when she has the paperwork to show her that a lot of it is being wasted) http://www.cbc.ca/consumer/story/2007/01/11/copyright-canada.html Copyright law changes could leave consumers vulnerable Last Updated: Thursday, January 11, 2007 | 9:39 AM ET The Canadian Press Ever recorded a television show or a movie so you can watch it later? Or ripped a CD so you can listen to it on your MP3 player? With changes to Canada's copyright laws expected as early as next month, these mundane 21st century activities could theoretically be open to prosecution — unless the Conservative government steps in with expanded "fair use" or "fair dealing" protections for consumers. Close observers of the file say all signs point to a new regime that will improve safeguards for major music, film and media companies and artists for unpaid use of their material, but neglect to make exemptions for personal use of copyrighted content. 'About as market interventionist as you can get' "We're dealing with an industry minister [Maxime Bernier] that's tried to extricate government from the telecom area with a very strong deregulatory focus," said Michael Geist, the Canada Research Chair of Internet and E-commerce Law at the University of Ottawa. "Yet the kind of copyright reform that is being contemplated is about as market interventionist as you can get." Amendments to the Copyright Act are fraught with problems, since there are so many players with contradictory views. Exacerbating the situation is intense pressure from the United States, where Canada is considered a rogue when it comes to copyright and intellectual property. It still hasn't ratified a 1997 World Intellectual Property Organization copyright treaty. Sources say the new legislation is ready, but Bernier and Heritage Minister Bev Oda are struggling on final wording. Two of the most controversial issues are called digital rights management and the closely related technological protection measures. 'People just assume it's free' Graham Henderson of the Canadian Recording Industry Association, one of Canada's top lobbyists for stiffer copyright controls, notes that a variety of digital services have taken off in the United States and started to make up a large percentage of music revenues. "In Canada, that's not happening and it's not happening because we have a culture here where people just assume it's free," said Henderson. "It's a big black market effect and so instead of 25 per cent [of the market], it's eight per cent here. People are simply abandoning the marketplace altogether, and they've made the decision they'll just download the music and worry about how the artist gets paid later." Exemptions for consumers urged But what does this mean for the consumer who legitimately buys a song or a film, and wants to use it on several different devices? Consumer advocates, such as Ottawa-based lawyer Howard Knopf, are urging the government to protect Canadians with wide exemptions in the Copyright Act for "fair use." As well, a group of Canadian musicians, including the Barenaked Ladies and Broken Social Scene, have come out against the technological protection measures, arguing they actually stifle creativity and their relationship with consumers. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ And here's a good link to the story via BoingBoing, that includes contact info for MPs directly involved in this crap: http://www.boingboing.net/2007/01/11/canadas_about_to_hav.html Later . . . 23. I think that Bush is a desperate man. He is lost, and so are all of his sherpas. It's so very sad that hundreds more will die, and the world won't be any safer, as his decisions will spiral Iraq and the surrounding area into an even deeper mess I find amazing energy and patriotism (even though i'm not an American) in the editiorials/speeches by MSNBC's Keith Olbermann. Here's a great presentation he made before Bush's address the other night.
