  1. Well, I'm definitely going to be there!! I didn't organize my entire life for three years around where Mike Daley was playing just to skip a free gig in Hamilton...

    And just because I enjoy being a prick, technically Mike Daley was in the Killjoys - but he quit before they got signed, so you'll not see his name in any CDs.

    Mike kicks ass.

  2. Huh. I only stayed for the first 90 minutes, and there hadn't been any storming of anything up until that point. Just drums and free food and some speakers and some poetry. And Steve Sinnicks, and whatsisname... ah, you know... singer-songwriter, long hair, been around the Village forever, kinda sulky, dresses in black, vaguely reminds me of Tom Waits... awwww.... I'm losing my mind! What's his name again?

    Anyway, it's disappointing to hear that the tone changed after I left... see what happens when I leave people alone for a few minutes?

  3. awww - you're lucky!

    Well enjoy your fun in the sun ... come bring me some soup ya poop

    I'm a rhymin' demon today - tssssssss

    Well I would, Beelzebabe the rhymin' demon, but it's a long walk back to Kitchener, and I'd just be wandering around downtown with a bowl of soup, since I don't know quite where you work, so... NO SOUP FOR YOU!! ;)

    Okay, now I'm really heading out the door... for real...

  4. bastard, i hope those talking elevators at the region get stuck on the way down.

    KIDDING, KIDDING, KIDDING!!!!!!!!!

    get out & enjoy the sunshine! take extra deep breaths of the fresh air for me! i'll be officing t'il five, oh fun.

    Bwa-ha-ha - I posted this from home, so you can't trap me in the government offices!! And... I hate to break it to ya, but I work on the ground floor... ;) (Those elevators are pretty freaky, talking to you and all...)

    Rally to Revitalize Democracy in Hamilton: The current budget crisis affects us all - as tax payers, transit riders, small business owners, service consumers and citizens. City Hall has spent Hamilton into near-bankruptcy by pushing an outdated, discredited model of economic development. This model tells us that prosperity comes from more roads, more sprawl, big business, privatization and minimal services... From countless examples world-wide, we know this model doesn't work!

    Join us in presenting a new direction for Hamilton's development. Let's unite to pursue a vision that includes:

    - adequate support, services and housing for the poor and homeless in our communities;

    - a Vision 2020 community with sustainable development, clean air and water, strong public transit and green space and wildlife conservation;

    - a revitalized city core that is small business-friendly and committed to enhanced quality of life;

    - an end to financial mismanagement and unaffordable, capital-intensive projects like the Red Hill Expressway;

    - good relations between the diverse cultural groups that make up our city, including respect for First Nations rights.

    Wednesday April 14th, 5:00PM in front of City Hall

    (Taken literally from the flyer I was handed. Any typos are mine. See you there...)

  6. Okay, not to rub it in, but... my computer system at work is being upgraded, which pretty much leaves me with absolutely nothing to do - so my boss suggested taking the rest of the day off!! Wow - a four day weekend, followed up by two consecutive days of leaving work early!

    So... out from behind the computer I go - time to take a walk in this lovely spring sunshine! :)

  7. Beck - Sea Change

    Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers - The Witch Doctor

    Richard Thompson - The Old Kit Bag

    The White Stripes - De Stijl

    Various - Nuggets: Original Artyfacts From the First Psychedelic Era

    (okay, okay... the last one is four discs, but I always interpret these "5 disc rotation" threads as being "five album rotation" threads. So I'm a jerk - sue me!!)

  8. Do you think those Canadian Liberals are doing a good enough job, trying to skew the public on their initial promise from 11 years ago, stating a a new ethical standard?

    (Actually, I would rather Ask Hamilton that one)

    There's a forum for that, you know... ;)

    I would ask Dubya who he thinks he's fooling when he insists that he will appear before the 9/11 Congressional hearing only if he can take the stand with Dick Cheney, and if they don't have to take an oath. (Apparently, it's okay to lie to the American public, just as long as you didn't swear an oath to the great magical undead sky-god not to do it right before you do it.)

  9. Just out of curiousity, has anyone out there ever taken an actual IQ test - not one of these phoney on-line thingies? I did one once, and while it wasn't a lot different from this one, it was a hell of a lot longer.

    It also turned out that I was smarter than I thought - but then, that was the point of the experiment. It was part of a study to find out what people expected their IQ to be, and then what their IQ really was - testing peoples' self-perception of their own intelligence. It was kind of interesting, but I never did find out the results of the study. I'm guessing that very few people estimated their IQs accurately.

    bands like to be paid.

    Actually, bands always make what they ask for, or at least the amount they agree to with the promoter. It's the promoter who has to do the work to bring in the crowd, since they are the ones that lose money if no one shows up. Of course, a band can charge more money if they have a good track record of bringing in larger audiences...

    Because a lot of American bands are good! You're right, there are a lot of Canadian bands that play around, but not *that* many, and you don't always want to be seeing the same bands all of the time. Variety is the spice of life.

    As for the Phil Lesh show, I think that it was probably not a smart move on the part of whoever did the booking for the show (or, an attempt by the band to cater to Canadian fans). Since they were playing at Darien Lake two days later, there weren't going to be any Americans crossing the border, and there just isn't enough interest up here to fill the Molson Amphitheater. Phil is Phil, but he isn't the Grateful Dead. From what I heard, FurtherFest didn't do very well the year that it came to Toronto either (it did come, didn't it? or am I just imagining things? I mean, I know I wasn't there, but I could have sworn that the festival hit Molson...).

    And just to rile everyone up a bit right before New Years, I have to admit that I thought the Phil & Friends show was pretty bad. Other than a couple of times, I was bored throughout most of the show. I understand that the next night in Darien was much better, although I haven't heard it...

    Happy New Year!! (I get to go party in three hours...!!!) [big Grin][big Grin]

    Brian.
