Personally, I love the first album, The Hold Steady Almost Killed Me. It's the killer combo of clever lyrics, rock n roll riffs, and that cadence in delivery.
As far as the last album, try listening to it on random. Or start with Citrus.

Must.see.

game will be riddled with penalties.
Agreed.
My neighbour and I were chatting last night. I was saying how much I was enjoying the small box, rush the net, tic-tac-toe style of goals Anaheim are putting in and he pointed out that it is large and in part a result of the kind of hockey that Getzalf, MacDonald and especially, IMO, Perry played in the minors. The power forward is my favorite kind of player.

Happy Birthday, buddy. I wish I had something witty to add from Saturday's celebrations, but I remember almost nothing from point we left bar..... the first time.

Did anyone catch Harry's performance last night?
In response to an obvious Mullen observation
"Does Dolly Parton sleep on her back?"
And a related note, I wonder if Pierre McGuire sits between the benches on non NBC nights and just practices yelling annoying observations to no one in particular?

I was underwhelmed.
Too minimalist. Couldn't hold my attention compared to the perfection of albums past.
Maybe it needs another go round. Maybe it's because I'm in a Springsteen loop right now. Maybe I can't stop listening to the new Greyboy. Who knows?

Notice how there is no accusations of tampering though....
The people spoke with a turn-out that puts North American efforts to shame.
France did OK. And will do OK. The world is watching. OK?

It's been awhile since this has been thrust into the Cavern consciousness but are people still listening to these? Do some even know? I've gotten into going back and giving the big relistens to earlier casts. I've got from 16 on.
If you haven't or have lost touch with these, check out #44 November 2006. Extremely good, with some really fun moments and a Radiohead "National Anthem" Jam

The 3-night Wisconsin run from last November, showcased some of their strongest playing in 2006 -- a level which would continue through the end of the year. The podcast begins with an extended take on Morning Song takes a includes a sublime solo section from Joel. Adopted from Jake's Ali Baba's Tahini days, a cover of the Michael Jackson/Paul McCartney collaboration The Girl is Mine also features the standard Jane Says (Jane's Addiction) interlude, while August features the band digging into the dark drone of Radiohead's National Anthem. The closing Ocean Billy sandwich is packed with 3 sections of Umphrey's more organic improvisational style, as they traverse through several genres and moods in each jaunt.

Dylan's a negligent performer.
What a great way to put it. This needs to be said more.
Springsteen was/is rock and roll. I can't believe I didn't know this before.Bruce is the man. Have you got the Seeger Sessions yet? Nebraska? Ghost of Tom Joad? Ashbury Park?

I hated Neil Young until about 17 yrs old.
I hated U2 until about age 21.
I still have found no appetite at all for The Cure or Morroisey
