  1. PYITE - Undisclosed Location - Spring 2003

(this could be heavily influenced by the DSB copy of 12/11/97 I just received for Christmas)

    kack-ko-KACK,kakaka-KACK,ka-koko,ka-koko

    bom-bom WEHHHHHHHH (digadigadig-dag,digadigadig-dag......)

    hehehe

  2. Honestly, I think we may be the only two londoners on the board (which is surprising to say the least) Anyway, you're not home and Paul Atkin Quartet at the Bacchus tonight. Do not miss, they just keep getting better (or perhaps I keep getting drunker) IT doesn't matter.

Are there any other Londoners on the board (ex-Londoners don't count, sorry Northern Wish)

PS Beats, what's the deal on The New Deal? Can you get me in?

  3. I gotta step up and give some love for the Groove Asylum as well. I just saw them last Saturday here in London town and they are so very very solid. The bass player is extra talented as well.

The Brownman does rock and is a helluva guy to boot. Come ready to boogaloo!!

  4. As reported by Jambands.com:

Phish members Trey Anastasio and Mike Gordon joined Vida Blue on stage during the encore of its New Year’s Eve show at Roseland Ballroom in New York City. Vida Blue features keyboardist Page McConnell (Phish), bassist Oteil Burbridge (Allman Brothers Band) and drummer Russell Batiste (The Funky Meters). Anastasio and Gordon each played guitar during a 15-minute version of Traffic’s “Light Up or Leave Me Alone.”

Vida Blue will release its first album this spring.

if this does anything folks, it leads me to make not one but two predictions:

a)the easy one - Phish will not be playing together in 2002 -Spring and Summer Tours will include TAB and Vida Blue

b)the hopeful one - with the amount of contact the boys still seem to be in, reunion is enivitable, my call - summer 2003 with spring surprise tour/recording session

Hope everybody had a wicked New Year's! Let's hear some regional reports from those lucky enough to go : Nero, BNB, Jomomma ?

    Lates,

  5. Worst is terribly hard to determine. I generally find myself fleeing in terror or humming GDTRFB extra loud in situations of bad tunage. I'd like to offer more generalized dislikes if I may....

    1. The Hard but Soft Bands. "YEAH, WE ROCK but we also have a sensitive side oooh look an acoustic guitar now cry damn you cry."

    2. The Token Canadian Female "Talent" of the Year

I don't blame them really. It's the industry that whores them out and taunts 'em that bugs me.

    3. Boy Bands. Dirty Pop. Look for some more scandal to finally make this music more interesting see: Andy Gibb

    4. Bad beats. Whether it be house, trance, or hip-hop, the big machine keeps pumpin them into the clubs/the minds of the next generation. Do the future a favor and give a good CD to a teen TODAY!

    5. Negative Heads. Guess they've always been around, but it's open-mindedness that's supposed to separate us remember? The issues of 2001 will mean nothing when you pull out the "tapes" five years from now.

As for hope, I offer you these fine finds of the year for me....

Sigur Ros, Soulive, DJ Food and DK, new Rheostatics, Bullfrog, live Tom Waits, Ryan Adams, Strokes, the ever improving SCI, both Trey band and the o-head, and last but not least all the crazy Canuck jammers doing their thing for us and for the scene.

  6. It was the shortest 3 hrs of my life.....

Having been a massive fan of the books (read twice) and guru on all things media, the opening of LOTR was something that I had anticipated and dreaded ever since I realized that this was good a story for Hollywood not to touch. I obviously had some concerns. Could they match the images and characters that my imagination had built? Would they muck with the plot? As a teacher, I wondered if any of my students would ever read it again?

I'm here today to tell you that I had nothing to worry about. If you've not read the book before going in, no problem. If you have, even better. It wasn't perfect (nothing truly is) but it was magnificant. Right from the get-go, you are thrust into the heart of all things that make Tolkien so good. Rich characters, extensive backplot, and grandose settings. Yes, slight alterations in the plot made me go hmmm, but weren't negative in anyway (not by hollywood's usual book butchering standards) I still can't believe they've shot this whole thing as three hours flew by, my mouth growing dry as it remained locked wide open throughout.

My two biggest comlpiments for this movie are 1) that in places, the film exceded anything my imagination had built, I was wowed 2)I think this movie is good enough that those that have not read the books will run out and read the next two if not them all. The movie asks you to give a heavier emotional investment than I thought and will draw anyone into this awesome story. It quite simply went above and beyond my expectations and everyone should experience this, well, experience (which is what is) in the theater with a friend real soon. Reporting for PhishSanctuary, I'm.....

  7. Maybe there is something to this then....

The International Zep #2 conspiracy. Call Mulder.. or

it could be that it's the one that's a wicked party mix/has all the favs (#3 is still my fav)

What I want to know is who does these unspeakable acts? Do they proudly display that one disc from the box set (where'd ya get that...ummm, used record store?)I say if you are there and you spot one of these criminals, bust 'em on behalf of the new formed....

Ministry of Missing CD's - who are my marshals?!?!

  8. Okay, time for a little nostalgia just in time for the holidays.....

If Santa could return any CD's lost from your collection forever (or presumably so) which ones might they be?

Obvious answer: all of them (smart ass...teacher, saw that comin)

    All time great losses:

John Coltrane - Blue Train (ex)

    Portishead - Dummy (another ex)

MMW 95 Texas Trey Show (soundboard, lifted)

Americian Beauty (I swear I've owned this twice on tape and twice on CD, I give up)

Phish - Billy Breathes (no clue)

The Second Disc to the Zeppelin Box set (that's just mean)

and finally, my hallowed, BT burned, double case masterpiece copy of Zappa's Joe Garage (somewhere with a straggly lookin man in the B.C. interior)

Share the pain this Christmas with your phriends here in the Cavern...

  9. I'm still working on the logistics of the uni-boob in the middle of GM's forehead. Would this be an A-cup or higher? How would it affect his artistic capabilites and sensablities for that matter? Has my life really come to thinking about this for entertainment? I gotta get out of the house immediately.....

  10. As a teacher, it was weird to take time out today and explain at times who he was, at times why the Beatles should be mourned (or at the very least, why their parents were mourning them) and just how much all the crap music that the majority of them owes to all the Beatles. George was responsible for saving my sanity one night (morning) and while he'll never know it, I'm grateful.

    My guitar gently weeps...

  11. Good thread! It's really a wonder I turned out the way I did with the music I was subjected to at an early age...

On one side, my Mom - Barry Mannilow, Dan Hill, Air Supply (what kind of a fuckin name is that anyway)

On the other, Dad with classical and the Irish Rovers (green alligators, long-necked beasts and a slim chance in brain damage to children under 6 yrs)

    HOW DID I SURVIVE?

a)taking my parents albums and playing them at 45 (Air Supply now much better)

b)Hooked on Classics - loved this album as a kid - disco remix medleys of classical music

c)my cousins who babysat me - sure it was hand me down disco and Bay City Rollers lp's but they were mine!

The day of truth? Another cousin, Linda-Lee, the black trans-am driving, chain smoking role model that she was, slapped me silly for loving Abba and handed me the album that would forever change the way I look at music...

    VAN HALEN - VAN HALEN

Been running with the devil ever since.......

  12. An' he smoked my eyelids,

    and punched my cigerette

Oh Mama, is this really the end?

To be stuck inside a mobile with the Memphis blues again.........

    Bob Dylan

A woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle.

    U2

just a couple that came to mind as all-time favs

  13. Mixed emotions for sure.

I dig Jeffery having met him through friends. No one who has met him will agrue the fact he's a positive force.

Musically, the jury won't be out for me personally until I hear the new direction. I remember being upset when after the first BNB layoff but that just proved to be nothing but a positive thing for their tightness, their sound.

I hope this was done for all the right reasons. I couldn't have been easy. All the best to Jeffery and the Burts as they go their separate ways....

  14. Northern Wish, could it be time to reunite some of the crew. A New Years Adventure again? It may have been a nightmare to plan but never forget who piloted the Starship Harpua that cold December night.

Wow, this really looks like it's starting to come together. My interest is being peaked by the moment.

Gentle monkey, maybe I should be talking to everyone's favorite comic shop owner as well?

    HEAVY consideration.....

  15. Ummm, don't quite know how to tell you this, but contents left at said party, were offically done away with last night. Person who hosted party was going to toss them due to health concerns. Instead we dusted them for shits and giggles last night. Sorry, my friend. Make it up to you sometime. Promise. Email me sometime.
