  1. This is it, isn't it?

No more talk, no more hype, just one game to prove once and for all who is the greatest hockey nation on earth. Ignore the fact that our road here was a rocky one. Ignore the fact that it essentially is a six game tourament and on any given day, it could have been the Czechs, the Russians, the Belarussians...it's on.

    Canada vs America.

    Hockey.

    For the gold.

    Today.

    All day.

    The gold.

(sorry, I've been watching a little too much CBC over the past couple of weeks.)

Seriously, death to Chelios, Hull and Tkachuk(pray for a stray puck), glory to the Canucks. No predictions.

Grab your beer, your friends and your touques and hang on!

    LONG LIVE THE HOSER NATION!!

  2. Speaking of dreaming, has anyone seen Waking Life?I saw it last week and if you are into dreaming and the philosophy of dreams or just want to see some crazy visuals (they animated over live action film), see this flick immediately.

My own dreams are manic and plentiful. As far as flying goes, I've always had the falling dreams but ever since I was a little kid, I'll do the falling but it's like I have a parachute and land perfectly. The ones I hate are the ones where I fall asleep then dream I can't move my body, so I panic and try to fight my way back to reality but everything is super-slo-mo and then I wake up. I step outside my room to find...my apartment is wrong. Rise, repeat about ten more times like some Russian doll until finally I'm awake but distrust reality for the next day or so.

One more dream related thread...anyone read Sandman here? This is a conversation that would make Morpheus proud!

  3. Hey all,

Just clocked back into town with a new 5hr 45 min Ottawa to London record and decided to throw this up. Thank-you to everybody who made last night a blast (too many of you to name individually). It was awesome to put faces to names and be a part of a "hometown" show. I'll be back soon (or come on down to Londontown one of these days) Special thanks to the lads o' Nero for both their musical contributions and having a hand in making conversation at breakfast this morning the most challenging thing I've had to do this year.

To all the cool cats in the capital, thanks for making me welcome. You folks put the hospital in hospitality!

    sunnydaze,

  4. Hmmm, I'm defintely familiar with some of the old Tape Traders Board Crew (including let us not forget AD who really was a pioneer in this area and started it!) Northern Wish, AD, Tungsten, Melloman (I know you're still out there), MarcO and Cyberhippie through Bri H. Apparently at Frontiertown I briefly met many of you Santuarians(I was Brahm Wiseman's friend with the burns and the crazy orange hat)Of course, said wiseman also beget a realtionship with the Monkey's and Pablo (excellent) through which I met Beats, Giggles and False Documents.....so weird to think paths have crossed so many times before and so many shared shows, anyway...

I suppose this is a good a time as any to make this announcement....*ahem*

Scottieking is coming to Ottawa on the weekend of the 16th to hang out, hook up, and see the boys throw it down!

Look for me, I'll be lookin out for most of you,

the man with the orange hat

    c) French Toast with Ketchup and Bacon

    d) Step out of my hut - proceed for a thirty second walk to Mama San making me a Mango shake walking back to my hammock, sparking a bowl and baking in the sun - Ko Phan Gan, Thailand

  6. Those are great, folks! I'd love to use them in my classroom tomorrow, maybe Friday. What are the sources, just to be semi-responsible?

Personally I always thought the axis of evil was Ronald MacDonald, Bill Gates and that guy that's responsible for putting the Backstreet Boys and N'Sync together.

  7. It's unfortunate that once again this year I'm looking more forward to the annual chili cook-off than the actual game (the secret is brown sugar, a multi-blend of meats including bacon, and a shot and a half of CC). However, if predictions must be made, the Pats will get run over in the first half but will stall the Rams enough in the the second half to make it watchable until Issac Bruce puts the nail in the coffin with 7 mins or so to go.

Rams 35 Pats 20 MVP: Marshall Faulk

    HAVE A GREAT SUPER SUNDAY!!!

  8. It's been awhile so I thought I'd resurect one of my first threads in the Sanctuary.

What's in permarotation in your CD Tray today?

Phil and Friends - 7/7/01 Red Rocks - lovin the soundboard (thanks for the GDlive tip whomever)

Zero 7 - Simple Things - if you like Radiohead, they've remixed it (Climbing The Walls)which is how I got hooked but MAN this album is solid mellow groove

Jimmy Smith - Root Down (live) - sick, sick keys

Prince - Rainbow Children - if you can ignore the Satanish interludes, this album is s o l i d.

LIVE PHISH # 2 - Sugarbush - considering how SHITTY my old tape used to be of this, it seems like a miracle

Single of the month - Ben Harper's Strawberry Fields Forever from the "I am Sam" soundtrack

Book Club selection - High Fidelity by Nick Hornsby - if you liked the movie, read this for how good it could have been

That's it. Looking forward to seeing into your stereos

    sk

  9. if only I knew.....

with the soccer (football) talk on this board, I didn't know we had some NFL fans online. This is a good thing

my2sense, the problem wasn't the hit itself (ahem, fumble) but the notion of conclusive evidence that the NFL needs to work on. In this case, there was NONE. All the angles told a vague and interpretive story (trust me, we saw it enough times Sat and Sun) Too bad for Chucky and da Raiders.

While we're on the thread, who's everybody's teams. I'm a Giants fan from the days of yore (LT was the closest thing to a superhero I'd ever seen as a kid) but these days I'll cheer for who's ever playing the greatest show on turf. GO PHILLY!

  10. It was going to be one of THOSE kinda nights....

From the get-go, things were boding well. All parties that needed to be connected, did. All people that needed tickets, got. Everybody to the show on time, we walked in to see...completely empty dance floor??? But there were tons of people sitting around in tables. This was the first time that I had been to this part of Fanshawe (I guess Forwell Hall as it is called doubles as a cafeteria in the day??)Anyway, it looked to be a good turn-out of people who didn't quite know what to expect.

Finally, the band took the stage. Those in the know took the opportunity to creep up and check things out nice and tight. The band's stage was only evaluated a foot off the ground. People were beginning to investigate but the dance floor remained empty! Finally, I could take no more. In perfect synch, I crossed MarcO coming from the other side of the floor, and the dancing began.Thinking we were alone, being so close, and getting off on the groove, I didn't notice the hundred or so people that crept in behind me about a minute later. The show was underway!

Strictly on a performance basis, I don't know anybody who is doing it better these days. Muchos talent, muchos energy and a dedication that infectiously converted the 400+ at Fanshawe last night. If last night was your first show, you got a great one. The thing that really gets me about the band is that fact that I've never seen them have a bad time on stage. They all smile throughout and seem to get off on their own tunes more than we do. Jambands take note, that sort of thing translates into a better time for your audience everytime.

Musically, I had no complaints. As usual, I couldn't put together a mental setlist for these guys. It's all a blur of dancing and shaking, tension and release, some old favs and new treats. Old friends too. It was sooo nice to have a good band in London for a change, the phamily here was out in full force.

Hope everybody had a solid show! Probably see ya'll again either for Grooveasylum at the Bacchus for all you intowners on Saturday, and you outtowners for Nero in KW in February.

P.S. Hey Ottawa gang, I'm starting a rumor that I'm coming into YOUR town for Nero's February 15 show. Pass it on....

  11. I've been to Cheju when I lived in South Korea. It's very pretty. I'm not sure what the ex-pat scene is like there, but there's got to be a few kickin around. Cool spot for sure. Good luck. Teaching in Korea was a blast.

  12. I consider myself fairly music literate but who the hell is

    35. FELA KUTI & AFRIKA 70/EGYPT 80

It's hard to pick on Spin who is trying sooo hard to represent "just outside the mainstream". They got their place in the rock 'n roll world just not on my coffee table. I think the last Spin I bought had a Beasties cover, no wait, it was Beck. BECK! WHERE IS YOUR NEW ALBUM???? I'm thinkin out loud again, aren't I?

Anyway, it's hard to argue that the Ramones overall have influenced more bands than the Dead. Doesn't make it right or wrong, just a fact. At best though, Dead should rank higher.

Coming to you live from rock'n roll high school,

    scottieking
