  1. Blitzen Trapper - VII

Foxygen - We Are the 21st Century Ambassadors...

    Hayden - Us Alone

Charles Bradley - Victim of Love

The National - Trouble Will Find Me

Neko Case - The Worse Things Get...

    Arcade Fire - Reflektor

    Deep Dark Woods - Jubilee

Okkervil River - The Silver Gymnasium

    Jason Isbell - Southeastern

I think that Neko Case, The National and Blitzen Trapper would share second prize, with Jason Isbell winning album of the year. When I first heard that one I don't think I listened to anything else for at least 2 weeks.

The most disappointing release of the year for me belongs to Dr. Dog. Not that it sucked, but it just didn't have the chutzpah of their 3 or 4 albums and I was expecting to love it after hearing the awesome first single, Broken Heart, weeks before the album dropped (read: leaked).

  2. Yeah, I definitely stick to ebay. At least there is buyer protection should the seller send you a record that is not in the condition you expect.

Your best bet is just searching the stacks at your locals. At least then you can see the condition yourself. And get those sweet wiffs of Uncle Dave's basement while you are at it.

  3. Someone posted the full songlist with notations about who actually sang on another board. I've been in a post show glow since Wednesday night. I hope it lasts for a while longer.

  4. It was my first time at the renovated Cap. What a beauty. I love when venues are clearly run by people who go to shows and everything is smooooth. They now have an app for your phone that you can order drinks right to your seat which was a real treat. Our seats DFC in the first row of the balcony didn't hurt either.

I'm living down here for work for a while so I get to see anything I want (within reason). I wasn't able to make the Barn show, but I might hit up Felice Brothers in Hudson NY on my way back to PA from CT tomorrow night.

  5. I was very fortunate to have been in attendance for this show last night. I've seen Band music in many formats (except the original lineup of course) but this 'band' floored me; simply put this was the tightest shit I think I have ever seen.

The Antibalas horns started the evening off in grand fashion from a box in the balcony and we were off running. The song list is ingrained in my mind but with each new tune a wave of excitement hit. Highlights were every single song played. Really honest to goodness highlights. And then there were the others, the ones that seized up muscles in my face and my chest. Those moments are a difficult thing to put into words for those that have never been there in that moment when there is nothing more important than the song being played in front of you, but I know this board will get it.

The biggest superstar performances of the night came from Sam Cohen (on every song!), Jocie Adams (Coyote), Eric Earley (who was a spot on Dylan) and Nels Cline doing the two Clapton numbers was massively impressive.

If this show takes place again next year and I can't see why it wouldn't- JUST GO!!

    Ophelia:

    The Weight:

For those that care about these things, this was the lineup:

Alec Ounsworth (Clap Your Hands Say Yeah)

    Alecia Chakour (Warren Haynes Band)

    Andy Cabic (Vetiver)

    Cass McCombs

    Dave Dreiwitz (Ween)

    Eric Earley (Blitzen Trapper)

    Eric Johnson (Fruit Bats)

    Jeff Chimenti (Furthur)

    Jocie Adams (The Low Anthem)

    Joe Russo (Furthur)

    John Roderick (The Long Winters)

    Jordan McClean (Antibalas)

    Josh Kaufman (Yellowbirds)

    Marc Black

    Marco Benevento

    Matt Vasquez (Delta Spirit)

    Nels Cline (Wilco)

    Nicole Atkins

    Ryan Miller (Guster)

    Sam Cohen (Yellowbirds)

    Scott Metzger (Wolf!)

    Stuart Bogie (Superhuman Happiness)

  6. Like Bob Lefsetz says, marketing is a now a 365 day event. No one should be doing launch marketing and then hoping the product will maintain momentum. I think the Arcade Fire team will have lots of tricks up their sleeve for 4 to 6 months to come. The album launch with the lead up, the shows, the live broadcasts etc was pretty brilliant.

Of course all of that work and they debuted at No 1 on Billboard and have dropped all the way to 9 this week with a decline of 77% selling only 31,000 units.

I personally hate that VIP packages and artificial cool is what the band has become. If they want an art project, take the millions off the table, get out of arenas and play clubs that would give people a true experience not just an opportunity to spend some money down at the Value Village and impress (or annoy?) their instagram friends.

  7. 1) Are offering $350 VIP seats with an opportunity for 'crowd free merchandise shopping'

    2) Have listed a mandatory suggested dress code on their ticket buying page

How do you feel about this?

  8. I know this all to be true. It is certainly not that I don't still love them and I do agree with others that they are playing better now than any time over the past few tours.

But on the other hand, while on my own personal Phish semi-hiatus I have managed to see the band 3 times in addition to Springsteen 4x, Neil Young 2x, CSNY, Tom Petty, Pearl Jam, Dylan 2x, Tom Waits, Elvis Costello, MMJ 2x, Wilco, Dr. Dog 2x, plus lots of local shows and countless festivals.

I figure Phish or no Phish, either way I'm winning.

    Do it for her.

  9. I should add that my interest in the band isn't waning due to the new material or their choice to launch Wingsuit on Halloween. It is totally organic and unrelated to anything they are doing and has been an increasing reality since Superball.

It's not you Phish, it's me.

  10. I'm going to this Last Waltz Tribute at the Capitol Theater in a few weeks:

    http://www.jambase.com/articles/119076/the-capitol-theatre-to-host-complete-last-waltz

Last November an impressive array of musicians honored The Band and their legendary 1976 The Last Waltz show at San Francisco's Warfield for a concert dubbed "The Complete Last Waltz." The event went so well many of the musicians involved will come together on November 23 at The Capitol Theater in Port Chester, NY for an East Coast installment of The Complete Last Waltz. As first reported by venue owner Pete Shapiro's Jambands.com publication, Marco Benevento, Sam Cohen, Dave Dreiwitz and Jeff Chimenti are just a few of the performers scheduled to take part in the concert.Scott McMicken and Eric Slick of Dr. Dog, Stuart Bogie, John Altieri, Eric D. Johnson, Andy Cabic, Josh Kaufman, Ira Elliot, Alecia Chakour and Binky Griptite are also signed on for the Port Chester Last Waltz, with more performers expected to be announced soon. Complete Last Waltz producers are in the midst of a Kickstarter campaign, with tickets to the Cap, a download of last year's show and pro-shot video among the rewards for those who contribute to their effort.
