  1. I also wish this show was on the weekend as I am on afternoon shift this week and will not be able to attend.

I would have taken the day off to see it, alas I am taking today off to see Eddie Vedder and can not justify two days in one week for Mike Gordon. Now if it were Phish, that would be another story.

    Peace,

    Tim

  2. Sweet, I just got front row centre for Joan Baez. I have always wanted to see Baez and have regretted the time I passed her by at U of T in 2003 because I would not take the night off of work.

I also picked up tickets to see Art Garfunkel, whom I have seen with Paul Simon, but never solo.

    Peace,

    Tim

  5. Due to two reasons Saturday August 9, 2008 was the strangest Bob Dylan gig I ever saw. First, since Dylan was headlining this new festival the New American Music Union he was not able to stop people in attendence from bringing in cameras. So to counter the cameras that the fans were pointing on the stage during Dylan's set, the stage lights were kept getting turned down to the point where not one overhead stage light was on during "Ballad of a Thin Man." So Bob and his boys were essentially playing in the dark.

The second reason it was such a strange show since the tickets were so cheap I paid $64.70 and students paid $25 less for the two day festival put on by American Eagle and Anthony Keidis of the Red Hot Chilli Peppers that the crowd was the youngest I have ever seen at a Dylan gig. To put it more clearly it was the most non-Dylan crowd I have ever seen at a Dylan gig.

With other acts on the bill that Saturday including the Raconteurs, Spoon, Gnarls Barkley, Black Mountain and the Duke Spirit, the audience up front were not just there to see Dylan and for a General Admission show I saw less Dylan regulars around the front than I have ever witnessed.

So it did not help the gig when Dylan decided in his 13 song set to play 7 songs from his last two albums and only 6 songs from the sixties and seventies. The young crowd up front sang the opener and closers like I have never seen at a Dylan show (the songs were "Rainy Day Woman #12 & 35" and "Like a Rolling Stone". Yet when Dylan was doing so many songs they obviously were unaware of they attempted to stay in it by clapping through songs like "Spirit on the Water" and "Honest with Me" it was a little annoying, yet also funny at the same time.

To be clear I'm not complaining that Dylan was doing so much new material, I would love to still hear "Mississippi" and "Ain't Talkin'" it was just obviously hard for all the young fans that do not have all his latest releases.

All in all the strangest Dylan gig I have ever seen. I expect the gigs at SPAC and COPPS that I will be attending to have better lighting and to be longer.

    Peace,

    Tim

  6. I saw Lindsey Buckingham at the Danforth Music Hall last time and he far exceeded my expectations. I would like to see him again alas I'm on the afternoon shift that week so I will have to pass.

Though if he comes around again with Fleetwood Mac I will definitely take the day off work to go.

    Peace,

    Tim

  7. That's too bad about the change for the Bruce Hornsby concert to not be free anymore.

Though I was not going to be able to make the gig anyways as I will be at the New American Music Union in Pittsburgh seeing Bob Dylan, the Raconteurs, Spoon, Gnarls Barkley, Black Mountain and the Duke Spirit.

    Peace,

    Tim

  8. I've been lucky enough to see Robin Williams twice and he is definitely worth seeing again and again.

The first time was a surprise when he did an impromptu set in between acts at Neil Young's Bridge School Concert in 2000 at the Shoreline Amphitheatre. Williams was filming 'One Hour Photo' at the time so he had short blonde hair and he said he looked like Slim Shady and he was so crazy he jumped into the crowd and put on a lady's cowboy hat.

The second time was the former Hummingbird Centre on his last tour in 2002, which was a great tour.

I hope to make it to see this tour as well.

    Peace,

    Tim

  9. Happy Birthday Mick,

I hope you have many, many more in health and happiness.

I wonder how many more tours you will do as the Rolling Stones?

A couple of years ago on this day I saw a solo Bruce Hornsby show at the Glenn Gould Theatre and I put in a request that said "Today is Mick Jagger's birthday, could you please play a Rolling Stones song in celebration of his birthday. Thanks!" Bruce read the request out loud and then he played "Let it Bleed."

At the end of the song Hornsby said "That's for you, whoever requested it. I bet you didn't think I would do that one, did you?" Which is funny because I just made a general request and had no idea which Stones song Hornsby would do. Then Bruce said "How many people knew that song?" Most of us gave a positive response and he said "Y'all are lying." Which was also funny because it's the title track to one of the most critically acclaimed albums by the Rolling Stones, so most of us would know it.

    That is all.

    Again Happy Birthday Mick,

    Peace and Love,

    Tim

  10. I'm happy that the 'Archive' will be released on CD and I can't wait for another Farm Aid.

    Gary Graff, Detroit

With "CSNY: Deja Vu," his documentary of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young's controversial 2006 Freedom of Speech Tour, rolling out this week, Neil Young says his upcoming musical plans mostly involve his long-in-the-works "Archive" series as well as hitting the road.

This fall, the "Archive" series will begin to roll out with a 10-disc set of performances from 1963-72. Contrary to previous reports, and Young's own comments in the media, the set will be available in standard CD and DVD configurations and not exclusively in Blu-ray, but Young says he hopes fans will take advantage of the state-of-the-art format.

"Blu-ray is the future," Young tells Billboard. "It sounds the best, the navigating system is the best. I've made a lot of CDs and we've made a lot of DVDs, and Blu-ray technology is so far superior to anything else. The fact there aren't many players out there now doesn't meant that much to me, because it is the future, so I would rather focus on what's next. If you were to get a Blu-ray of the 'Archive,' you would get the best."

Young is also confident that the next volume of the "Archive" series will come in short order. "We've developed the platform," he says. "We have the format. We have everything together to do it. It just took 15 years to develop this platform and also to wait for technology that was strong enough for the platform to stand on."

As for live performances, Young says he'll "be touring pretty extensively for the next year, year-and-a-half," Young says. "That's what I'm focusing on. Playing for people with a great band is very rewarding. It's very good for me -- it keeps me in top form physically, and that makes me feel good.

"And I've found a way of doing it so I'm on and I'm off and I can get enough time on that I can focus on (other projects) and then I go right back out on the road again and take another couple shots at that."

Young does note, "as far as new music, there's just a few things that are going on, but nothing to speak of. Usually when it happens with me, it doesn't happen 'cause I planned it. It just happens. As fortunate as I have been so far, there'll be new music coming along the pike."

Young resumes touring Aug. 7 in Helsinki, playing in Europe throughout August and returning home for the Farm Aid concert Sept. 20 in Mansfield, Mass.

  11. I am looking forward to tonights Mark Knopfler show. I already saw this tour on May 30th at the Royal Albert Hall and I thought it was another great Knopfler concert.

Knopfler's solo material has a great folky quality to it, combine with his always present amazing storytelling lyrics and spectacular guitar work.

Here is hoping for "Heart Full of Holes" my favorite song off of his latest album 'Kill to Get Crimson.'

    Peace,

    Tim

  12. Sweet, I hope I can do this event this year, How much did you get your tickets for? and does it cost anything to join the farmyard? Im just being a bit lazy in this hot weather to investigate for myself

    Peace,

    Tim
