  1. I am both @aarongoldstein and @huronmusic

The former is random musings and bits from the road and studio when I'm out as a jobber.

The latter of course is all things Huron, bigging up upcoming shows and lots of tweets from the road when we're out there.

@huronmusic also feeds from the Huron Facebook...so sometimes when a bandmate spells "St. Catharines" wrong it gets reposted to Twitter anyway.

Twitter has quickly become my main source for all manners of news and information. It's just so quick. Follows I'd recommend:

    MSNBC Breaking News - @BreakingNews

    CBC News - @CBCNews

    Exclaim! - @exclaimnews

    Spinner - @spinner

?uestlove of The Roots - @questlove

    The Onion - @TheOnion

Family Guy writer Alec Sulkin - @thesulk

    Sarah Silverman - @SarahKSilverman

    Jian Ghomeshi - @jianghomeshi

    Alan Cross - @alancross

  2. I'm wondering how quickly Czechoski may become packed tonight.

If you stick around Czechoski for the midnight set, you won't be disappointed with Terra Lightfoot! The other three Huron guys who aren't me are in her backing band. Her songs rule. She did her record with Dale Morningstar at the Gas Station and it'll come out...soonish. She's not your typical girly singer - she means business.

  3. Could also be an arm balance issue if it's skipping around. Try taping a quarter to the top of the cartridge and see if that works - not a permanent solution but if it works you know you need to adjust your balance.

This is really a question for kookycanooky. Somebody send out the bat signal.

  4. I find that they're not big on long-term announcements because I think they play pretty often...if you join their facebook page you'll get announcements during the week if they're playing on an upcoming weekend...they tend to play the Dakota and the Piston a lot I think.

  5. I've seen them and know the bass player. They are a great, great, cover band, if you're into all the Motown/Stax/other early funk/soul you can handle. My only complaint is there's only a single horn player. But the vocalist kills, rhythm section is airtight and deep-pocketed, and they always bring a big-time party. Was close to hiring them to play my wedding.

Go check'em out if that's what you're looking for!

  6. As we were being paid at the end of the night, the promoter told me that there were people turned away, so sorry to hear you were among them Velvet and phorbesie! Huge bummer. Sweet that you skated to the show though...as we were pulling into town we mused aloud that people must skate to work regularly, am I right?

Thanks so much to everybody that made it. Ottawa is still probably the town in which we have the best shows. Hamilton last night was great but not sure if it beat Ottawa.

rubberdinghy I knew I recognized you when I saw you at Call the Office, but wasn't sure from where and only found out the next day that it was you...I was like, Adam, why didn't you introduce me?? Anyway, next time.

  7. I'll be the steel player.

Will Misha Bower be in the band?

    Aloha' date='

    Brad[/quote']

I couldn't say, honestly. He may add her in there as there are some great female vox on the record (which I suspect are hers). But who knows if she'll be available. I've never actually met her. So far it's Spencer Burton on bass, Ian Romano on drums.

Widespread Panic’s longtime equipment manager was stabbed to death in his house in Northern Clarke County yesterday morning, Athens-Clarke police said.

Officers found 49-year-old Garrie Vereen dead in his home on Featherwood Court at about 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, after a friend called 911 to report that Vereen had committed suicide, police said.

But after an autopsy at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s State Crime Lab, a medical examiner called police today to report Vereen’s death was ruled a homicide, according to police.

Investigators have interviewed the friend who called 911, but police would not say if he or anyone else is a suspect in Vereen’s death.

Police also would not say why the friend thought the stabbing was a suicide, or who might have had a motive to kill Vereen.

“We just got notified this morning, so we’re just getting into full-fledged investigative mode,†Athens-Clarke police Capt. Clarence Holeman said this afternoon.

The death is a big loss to Widespread Panic. Vereen was equipment manager for the popular Southern jam band for two decades.

Vereen headed out with the band the first time in 1992 or 1993, he told the Athens Banner-Herald in a 2008 interview.

Back then, the band traveled in a passenger van and a 24-foot truck, and had grown to needing a bus and three freight trucks — one for lights and sound, one for band equipment and another for merchandise, Vereen said.

Widespread Panic played a two-night stand at the Classic Center last week, returning to its local roots to kick off a 25th anniversary tour.
