  1. I'll include a tiny rant: you see people driving those little handicap carts all over the place, and they are all being driven by overweight people. Of course I can't say for sure, but it appears that these people are confining themselves to these transportation devices solely because of overeating. Now I'm no skinny rail, but I find it hard to comprehend that so many people will eat themselves to disability status, and it seems to me that as soon as they decide to hop on a cart instead of walking they've basically just given up. I try to ignore it and am pretty successful in not letting it bother me too much, but two things really get my goat. First, as soon as a VIP (Voluntary Intermittent Paraplegic) arrives at a ride or anything else with a lineup they and their party are ushered to the front, motoring past everyone who haven't eaten themselves to oblivion. Secondly and vastly more offensive is to think of people with bona fide reasons for being unable to walk. There was a family boarding the shuttle this morning with two little kids, one bound to a wheelchair and the other with obvious mobility restrictions, though he could struggle his way onto the bus unassisted. I'll bet these kids would do just about anything to be able to get around unencumbered by their physical restrictions, and to think that others join their ranks simply because they won't stop eating way to much fatty foods is just mind-boggling.

    This sounds like downtown Hamilton.

Cracking job as always, Todd, love reading these things.

  2. great - this is the first i've heard of this. hope to see ya the 25th.

The posters I've seen for the Ottawa show also have The Withering Pines on the bill.

Convenient calendar entry with links 'n' stuff.

Yes indeed, we've become friendly with Eric from the Withering Pines just because Spaceman is an essential stop for us when in Ottawa (he works there). One day he gave us his record and we loved it, and there you are.

At the Garrison we'll play before the Bloomers, probably around 11 or 11:30 I imagine.

  4. Imagine showing up for work in a really pissy mood, traffic was bad, you dog shit in your shoes and some dude spills his coffee on your pants just as you are getting on the elevator. And he doesn't say a word, just looks at you and gives a little smirk as the elevator doors close.

You meet your first client. Her math teacher has been eaten by a bear and you've been sent to counsel the grieving students. Now, you've been at this for years, you've seen it all - plane crashes, workplace shootings, crazed freak accidents that always seem to take the young and the newly wed. And this girl in front of you is bawling her eyes out and snotting and drooling and you can't even reach into your briefcase for the muffin you brought with you. And your starving.

Then she sneezes. All over you. There are Kleenex boxes everywhere (yes, you've been at this a while), and she sneezes right into your gawd-dam face. This puffy-eyed know-nothing shitheaded fifteen year old is probably just playing it up to get out of class and maybe to be the crying three-second sound byte on tonight's news, and you just can't take it anymore.

"Jesus Christ you fucking moron!" you scream, jumping up like you've been doused in hot oil, "Shut up your lying fucking cryhole and get the fuck to class you trailer-trash bitch!"

In the unsuing silence, only her wristwatch points out that time has not actually stopped, as the tick-tick-tick that had gone unnoticed before takes on a heavier significance. One thing is sure, you've stopped the girl from crying, though her "cryhole" as you so elegantly put it is anything but shut. Hell, she seems to completely forgotten about her math teacher.

Not necessarily a job well done, but a job undeniably done nonetheless.

"How was your day at work Honey?"

Boy, do you hate it when she asks you that sometimes.

Always the most talented writer on this board. Well done sir.

    except p.s. "you're starving"

  5. You heard it here first, Hollerado opened for Huron!

Those bums were supposed to go last that night but they asked really nicely to play in the middle and we relented. Love 'em.

Also bummed to hear the room cleared out for YR. They def should have played before TPC.

Dave I think we shook hands before I went on at the Seahorse? All memories from that night are swimming at the bottom of a murky pool of free Jagermeister. At the end of the night our whole band - with all of our instruments - sat in with C'mon for Fortress of the Night, and I have very little recollection of it. I remember setting up and I remember tearing down.

Sari you're totally forgiven...you saw two awesome shows anyway. And we had two awesome shows without you :D.

Anybody else hear about the guy falling down the stairs at Paragon on Friday night and breaking his neck? Bummer.

Here we are in Sackville doing the aforementioned Fortress with C'mon. Somehow I have a feeling that Halifax was not as tight.

  6. So even though that first tour blog makes things look kinda grim, we actually had an awesome time out West after those two relatively minor cancellations. For anyone who hasn't, you should check out the rest of the tour blogs (including our most recent 'deleted scenes' compilation) at youtube.com/huronmusic.

Just bumping up the thread to say we had an awesome time in Guelph last night, and if you're in Toronto tonight you should come see us do the same thing at the Piston! Bloor and Ossington, steps from the subway, next to Long & McQuade! Our friends in the awesome band Little Foot Long Foot will open up - it's sure to be a barnburner! See you there!
