No fair - you're missing letters in the last one!
Someone may also take offense!
-
The key to it is that the word, although incorrectly spelt, has every letter of the word and the first and last letter are correct.
Still incredibly interesting, but those conditions have to hold for it to be that easy...

A pint might be too much liquid - as per DB.

I have no real idea.
However, what I'd do would be to take a can of clams - boil'em in about a pint of water. Strain. Cool. Blend it with a big-ass can of tomato juice.
Just guessing.

Before this, I really knew nothing of New Orleans so this is a bit of an unreal eye opener. I've been to the south of the US and found that the racism still existing is frightening. I never imagined it would be that bad in N.O.
-
Well, Digzz Davey Boy and Shainhouse - what you've pointed out is really exactly what I'm curious about.
I am no sociologist and I'm also shamefully ignorant on international poverty comparisons. However, I suspect that the extreme poor of N.O. are probably better off than many (if not most) of the hundreds of thousands of people affected by the S.E. Asian tsunami.
Is it all just a relative thing that creates a subversive resentment? I.e. the poor of N.O. are surrounded by conspicuous wealth so they get pissed and resentful?
It seems that people (again, based on not a lot of factual information - just anecdotal evidence) that the people in S.E. Asia pooled together a bit more to help each other survive. That was poor people left with nothing on a far bigger scale than what we're looking at in N.O.
It isn't just poverty...

I'm with Guigsy.

Bump.
Last night of ticket sales at the Manx. 5pm to 6:30pm
Bus reservations are not guaranteed after Monday.
Kayte and I will be around but only sporadically available over the wknd. Our number is 819 459 2077 if you want to get in touch with us regarding tickets this weekend - neither of us turn computers on during the weekend.
See ya...

One thing that I've been thinking about this situation is the speed with which civil society has completely broken down in N.O.
I mean, we didn't hear too many stories of looting and armed bandits shooting at aid workers and such in S.E. Asia after the tsunami. That's not to say I'm certain it didn't happen, but I don't remember hearing anything about it.
I really feel for the people who are just trying to survive and make it through this peacefully. Its a tragedy on a scale we don't expect in the west.
But, what the fuck is going on with our 'advanced' society? The minute the system crashes, loads of people are out ravaging their fellow citizen's private property and shooting at people trying to stabilize the horrible situation!

Yeah, I was 7 years old when he was doing the marathon of hope. He was and still is my greatest hero, too.
They were doing a bit on him on the cbc the other day while I was driving to work. I was pretty shocked to see what an emotional response that story still brings out of me...

Give people the opportunity to be good and they often will. This is great to see.

Cool beans Ms. Hux
A reminder to all others. Bus reservations end this wknd. After this weekend, its first come first serve for any remaining bus seats - if they fill up you're on your own for transportation...
If you can't make it to the Manx tonight or tomorrow make arrangements with me, grab tix from Freeker By The Speaker, or email Kayte at rockutt@gmail.com to see if we can hook up.
This whole thing is shaping up pretty wild. We've had some amazing feedback from people in some surprising circles - the buzz is on!

Ticket sales hours 5pm to 6:30pm tonight and tomorrow at the Manx Pub on Elgin St.
I'll have to figure out if how and where we're doing sales over the weekend.
Watch this space...

Good call BM!

As an addendum...
The head Grannie while on the phone with Kayte was quite reasonable.
The Grannie cause (support of AIDS orphans in sub-saharan Africa) is a good one.
Not all bad stuff - just a few rotten Grannie Smiths...

So, the local historic society in Wakefield has dropped $50,000 into a concrete foundation for an old beat-to-shit house their moving from across the river to the lot next to us. Who knows how much it cost to actually transport the house, then they have to restore it, then put their display in...
I don't know what they're thinking but it seems they have too much $$$ on their hands.
Anyhow, on to the funny story.
So, yesterday they were moving the house. They had to fill in ditches and drive the thing through the adjoining farm and up next to our house to avoid power lines.
You can imagine that this whole spectacle drew a bit of a crowd... Curious children, intrigued neighbours (us), and proud historic society members.
Kayte was outside chatting up all the locals hyping Wakefest and letting them know all about it. Well, here's where somebody's sense of proper conduct was affronted...
Kayte: "Hey, we're throwing a wonderful party on September 10 - we're trying to support the Chelsea QUAIL House. Perhaps you've heard of it or are interested?"
Elder Wakefielder: "How DARE you organize a party without consulting the local events calendar! The Grannies (more on them in a moment) have already booked the covered bridge for their fundraiser and you'll clearly have to reschedule your event."
Other Elder Wakefielder: "I'm the cub-scout leader and I'll be doing parking on September 10. I will personally see to it that all of your friends are ticketed and towed from Wakefield Heights Road."
Kayte (somewhat taken aback): "Oh, we had no idea. Well, I don't really think that our parties will interfere. But, when it comes down to it - this is our home and we can do whatever we want on our property."
And, so on...
It appears that the Grannies, some years back, petitioned to the municipality to have our street zoned as no-parking. This same group is now applying to have our street re-zoned as parking - but just for September 10.
A very good souce from high within the political machine of Wakefield has assured us that these people are a complete pain in the ass, recognized as such by everyone that matters, and without any power whatsoever over the parking on our street.
The head-grannie called (along with about a half-dozen grannie friends). She has asked us to make sure the stage is pointed away from the covered bridge and a bunch of other crap. Some of which is easy enough for us to oblige them on.
The best line, though.
Grannie to Kayte: "Can you not reschedule your event?".
Kayte to Grannie, "Can you reschedule yours?". Grannie to Kayte, "No."
Kayte to Grannie, "I thought not. So, you understand our position."
Anyhow, it looks like we've ruffled a few feathers with this event. Fortunately, the people who matter in Wakefield seem to be on side with us.
The whole thing is really comical...

Hey KitKat,
I can't stick around past 6pm tonight - gotta go and whip the bluegrass band into shape for the party. I'll be there until 6:30 tomorrow and Friday - later if I get specific requests.
Me - I'll be the tall stunningly good looking guy who's sitting by the little alcove next to the bar.
See ya

Ha ha ha - nice one Hux!

Unfortunately (for Ed Swynar's idea) this wouldn't become a trade issue unless American beers sold in Canada were subject to different tax rates to those applied to Cdn beers.
I feel fairly confident that the Cdn gov't screws everyone equally on this.

Manx hours knocked back to 6pm tonight for anyone planning on swinging by...
-
Dude,
I'd hitch-hike if nobody comes through.
Lone-rider style is the only way to go.

Hey Howler,
Bus info will be passed around once I finalize the booking. Right now, I'm taking bus info from people when they buy their tickets. Preferred pick-up: Glebe, market or terminal. Once I see how many people want to go and from where, I'll try to accomodate with the bus driver.
Off to the Manx...
Too bad they don't carry Heritage ;-)

No just come to the Manx between 5 and 6:30 - we'll have a beer and work through these issues. Together. It'll all be fine. Trust me.
