  1. Speaking of Ted Nolan, did anybody see me interviewed in the Nolan biography that was running all last week on APTN?
  2. Booche - Boyes played in the AHL in the lock-out, not sure what you're getting at?
  3. First GM to get canned this summer if his team doesn't go deep into the playoffs? - Don Waddell, Atlanta What he got: Alexei Zhitnik, Tkachuk, Pascal Dupuis What he gave up: Braydon Coburn, Alex Bourret, Glen Metropolit, 2007 1st and 3rd round picks, 2008 2nd round pick and I think another 3rd rounder in the Dupuis deal.
  4. Which Buffalo Sabres team would you rather head into the playoffs with? a) with Martin Biron and Jiri Novotny or with Ty Conklin and Dainius Zubrus I don't get that series of moves at all. When was the last time Zubrus did anything with a linemate not named "Ovechkin"? Oh that's right, never.
  5. The more I think about it, I think Kevin Lowe made an emotional, reactionary move and got absolutely fleeced. Ryan Smyth is arguably the best player moved today. St. Louis got better deals for both Tkachuk and Guerin. Ryan O'Marra is likely going be a solid 3rd line, 2-way player. I don't know if he'll amount to anything more. Tkachuk for a roster player (Metropolit), 2007 1st and 3rd round picks, 2008 2nd round pick Guerin for a roster player (Nieminen), a prospect (Barriball), 2007 1st round pick
  6. Booche already touched on it, but can you imagine what the price would have been for Comrie this week? Muckler stole him for a prospect that may never come back from Russia! Now I will say this, Bob McKenzie reported that the price for Gary Roberts would have been a 1st round pick in 2007 and that's it. If that is the truth (and I sort of doubt it), Muckler made a bad mistake. The deadline is as much about keeping guys away from your opposition as it is adding to your own team. The 2007 draft class is regarded as the weakest in years and the Sens pick will end up being 20something overall. I didn't want to see a prospect or a roster player moved for a 40 year old with 13 goals. But the 20th pick overall for Roberts and not having to face Roberts in the first round? Seems like an easy deal to make for me.
  7. I'm with you Jaimoe. I think that's going to be under-the-radar deal of the year. Dallas was already defensively strong, scorers seem to go there to die...
  8. Brad Boyes has had a horrible, horrible year. It's making his rookie campaign look like a fluke. Don't forget he's 24 years old, it took him a number of years to crack an NHL line-up. Wideman is a decent stay-at-home Dman with some offensive upside. Winners and losers? I was stuck in meetings half the afternoon and then my internet went down, give me a few minutes to digest all of this...
  9. I totally agree Jaimoe. And I think butt-of-all-off-season-jokes GM Garth Snow made a killer deal. Teddy Nolan has them playing a great team game right now.
  10. Also curious is that Dainius Zubrus was the only addition the injury-riddled Sabres made today.
  11. WOW. I can't believe the Oilers dealt Smyth (goodbye playoff chances this year), but they did get decent return for him. I don't think Nilsson will ever make an impact in the NHL but O'Marra is a blue-chipper. The Isles made some interesting pick-ups in Smyth and Zednik for a team that's still on the cusp. They could do some damage if DiPietro gets hot. Saprykin is a bum. That move will have zero impact. I like the Bertuzzi deal, looks like the Wings only gave up a conditional pick. If Bert ever gets healthy he'll be a tear to prove himself and earn a contract for next year. Another interesting deal that probably gets buried under the headlines today is Alex Bourret (very highly rated offensive prospect) from Atlanta to NYR for a marginal player in Pascal Dupuis.
  12. It turns out that pick Philly sent for Biron was NOT the Nash 1st rounder but the Philly 2nd rounder. Not that it makes much difference - the Nash 1st is going be 29th - 30th overall, the Philly 2nd is 31st overall.
  13. Waiver wire pick ups: Leighton to Montreal Hamel to Flyers Krog to NYR Boucher to Columbus Interesting that no one took a chance on Bryan Berard, he clears waivers unclaimed.
  14. sounds like it's SJ... any details yet?
  15. Latest rumours... Ryan Smyth has re-signed with Edmonton; Bil Guerin has been told he will be traded today.
  16. Booche is on course, I'm taking care care of you fools by proxy! Philly is making some great deals. They used the first rounder they got from Nashville to get Biron. So that deal is now Forsberg for Biron, Upshall, Parent and a 3rd rounder.
  17. As expected, Georges Laraque to Pittsburgh for a prospect and a pick.
  18. Jay Onrait - "Probably the best thing about the Biron trade: He can finally get his mask painted."
  19. Before this gets lost in the shuffle... do really think Buf would trade Biron within the division, to face him 8 times next year??? Biron to Philly for draft picks is confirmed. Great deal for the Flyers if they can get him signed.
  20. Biron to Florida is the rumour. Buf will grab another back-up G by 3:00...
  21. This Biron situation could get really interesting... gives Buf some cap room to make more deals... and somebody is getting a potential #1 goalie for cheap...
  22. Why all the fuss about a 40 year old with 13 goals? Did you learn nothing from Buffalo's injuries last playoffs? Gotta have guys on the farm that are ready to go. If the Sens do pick up a forward, I'd expect Schubert to bump Corvo from the top 6. But I couldn't see the likes of Sopel knocking anyone out of Ottawa's top 7 D.
  23. Pierre McGuire: "Just shoot high, glove side."
  24. The Fussy Part are great. They've got a bit of a Tortoise/Do Make Say Think thing going on at times. Check them out, buy their ep.
  25. Isn't that the point of "depth at D"? In case someone gets injured??
