that is not true, luke. the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (4th edition) is a diagnostic tool. it provides no guidelines on treatment or underlying cause. its inherent controversy lays in its classification taxonomies.

the DMB phenomenon is interesting. cool went to uncool pretty quickly in the mid/late-90s. my problem with DMB shows had 99% to do with the drunk frat boy / screaming teen girl crowds and 1% to do with the band's admittedly more commercial musical direction. i really like DMB too, but almost feel like too many people snuck into a private party here, and i feel guilty about feeling that way. my first DMB show was at the concert hall in toronto. far cry from giant stadium.

my first graphic memory of the taliban was when they destroyed those gigantic sandstone carvings in afghanistan, long before 9/11. note the two little dots on the feet ... they are people.
even then they were labelled barbarians.
there was a headline in the paper the other day, something like "Taliban strength grows" and i thought, wow, how is it that the Taliban even still exists today? great job, dubya. mission accomplished. keep up the good work.
