I was just watching Connected with PTS with Bob McCowan. McCowan said he has had phone conversations with various people that are claiming Crosby's family is trying to convince him to quit hockey. They are saying he has accomplished all he can in hockey and needs to seriously consider his health. Obviously we have to take this with a grain of salt but it us odd how quiet the entire Crosby camp has been about his concussion. Time will tell...

I guarantee you the amount of money Air Canada gives to the NHL is more helpful to the NHL then the amount of service the NHL gives to Air Canada. The problem here is that Bettman looks like a fool publicly and therefore makes the NHL look stupid. He should have kept those comments behind closed doors until the league had time to speak with Air Canada directly. The NHL has been discussing head shots, illegal pays, injuries etc for years but has done nothing... The NHL loves to talk "precedent" when dealing with potential suspensions. So what is the precedent here? Say this play happens tonight in Toronto... same play and someone goes head first in to the boards because of a hit (intentional or not) and is killed... Does the player who caused the hit walk away free as a bird? The point is there is no accountability right now. Whether a players means to or not they have to be responsible for their stick and body on the ice. Right now the precedent is hit and the NHL will guess if the play was intentional or not... That is almost always impossible to determine. The only way to stop hits such as this is to make players realize there will be action taken of you go too far and seriously hurt someone. There is no perfect way to handle this but all the NHL has done over the last few years is nothing... that is the precedent set.

We don't know this for sure. If the NHL handed out serious suspensions and fines it may help to reduce the number of reckless plays. Over the last 10 years we have seen many plays that should have warranted a longer suspension or fine. However since the NHL is unwilling to hand out such suspensions the acts keep happening. Yes... accidents will always happen but players need to be accountable for their actions. It's possible that if there was actual accoutability that many of these acts could be prevented. We won't know for sure unless the NHL acts.

I agree A player has to be accountable for nimself and his stick while on the ice. Yes, the game is fast and it is likely Chara was just trying to hit Max into the boards. However he should have had some awareness of their location on the ice and therefore should have realized to maybe pull back at bit... he didn't and the result was intense. Chara should be held accountable.

I'm thinking Chara will get 3 to 5 games.

I've seen 7 of the 10 movies nominated for best picture. Of those I would say The Kings Speech will win it. The three I have missed so far are... Black Swan... Winter's Bone and The Kids are Alright. There are movies I personally like more than The Kings Speech but I think it's the kind of movie the Academy will love and I wouldn't disagree with it as the winner.
