It was a small yet potent beacon of a new invasion. An invasion built on the principles of the past with the energy of the future. Baptized (Dipped) by the universal life force: Modern Funk. God Made Me Funky (GMMF) is the Funky live ensemble, out of Toronto, Ontario, comprised of a diverse array of musicians ranging from classically trained Jazz artists to street schooled Hip-Hop & R&B vocalists, all of which share the common bond of moving crowds and bringing the Nu Funk in to the next millennium. Consisting of Vocalists - Kaybe (Snow, Just Cool) and Breanne Arrigo (Hair Spray), Rapper - PHATT al (Len, Raggadeath), Keys - Sean Nimmons, Bass - Cam Dougall (Graph Nobel, King Latifah), Guitar - Rich Grossman (Jimmy's Groove), Trumpet - Mark Jarvis (Big Rude Jake, Fuzzy Love), Trumpet - Benji Perosin (Directions), Sax - Arthur Kerekes (Monkey), & Drums - Alan Witz (Funky Hi-Life, Millhouse); GMMF has been widely recognized in the Toronto music scene for thier highly energetic and outstanding ORIGINAL music and live remixes of Funk, Soul, R&B, and Hip-Hop classics. Formed in 1996 GMMF started out as an instrumental Funk fusion experiment. As the bands popularity grew vocalists were added to increase the range of songs the band could cover. Influences such as: Stevie Wonder, James Brown, Marvin Gaye, Sly and the Family Stone, Michael Jackson, Jamiroquai, the Roots, Afrika Bambatta, and D'Angelo were remixed with a 'new school' sound. Since that inception GMMF has shared the stage with such notable artists as Julie McKnight, Herbie Koffman, & Divine Brown. In 2005 GMMF won the Toronto Independent Music Award for Best R&B Band; Was named the #1 urban band at North By North East by ChartAttack.com; Was chosen by the Parmelat Group (of Dairy Products) to be featured in their national "Pure Filter Milk" campaign; Shot 3 music video's; Had their music featured in the TMN hit show 'G-Spot'; And played at The Cool Jazz Winnipeg Festival, The Beaches Jazz Festival, Canadian Music Week, COCA, and countless club gigs across the country, all after the release of their debut album, titled "God Made Me Funky". Now the band is poised to do it again , bigger and better, with the release of their latest album: 'We Can All Be Free'. Featuring production from Nigel Williams (of The Pocket Dwellers), SEOK, and Hot Heet Productions; And with guest spots from Michie Mee, Meastro, and Thrust the new disc represents a further allegiance to the betterment of the Nu-Funk Movement they've created. the band. The first single 'Won More Time' feat. Thrust, is currently being serviced to radio nation wide and has already hit #1 on CBC's R-30 radio charts, and #63 on the national CHR (Contemprary Hit Radio) charts; This in cunjunction with the 'Won More Time' video being shot by none other than Marc André Debruyne (Blink Pictures). As the band continues to tour and build its ever growing base of Funkoknots GMMF continues the trend of the forward thinking funksters that funked the world before them.
