  1. The third Annual Mark and Mark's Excellent Birthday Adventure Mark Wilson Band & Caution Jam PERFORM FEB.12-13 - HAMILTON & TORONTO The third Annual Mark and Mark's Excellent Birthday Adventure is quickly approaching! Mark Crissinger of Caution Jam & Mark Wilson of Mark Wilson and the Way it Is will be performing together with special guests in Hamilton and Toronto next week. These special shows will celebrate the birthday and musical legacy of two of Ontario's hardest working musicians. Mark Crissinger is a working man's guitarist. Performing in many blues inspired rock bands including The Bluezbuds, The Burt Neilson Band and Classic Rock act Caution Jam, Mark performs upto 100 show a year all over Southern Ontario & Atlantic Canada. Mark is tastefull guitarist in the spirit of BB King, The Allmans Brothers and Albert Collins. With a vast repetoire of classic 70's folk, rock and blues, Mark is also a great singer and songwriter currently working on a solo album of acoustic material. The album is reminicent of his work on Caution Jam's acoustic offering Shady Groove; with laid back acoustic grooves & mischevious lyrics. Mark Wilson is the founder of the Come Together Music Festivals and is a powerful Brantford, ON singer- songwriter. Come Together Festivals have been at the forefront of Ontario's grassroots rock & jamband community for the past 10 years and has presented some of the best homegrown Canadian Talent including: The Burt Neilson Band, The Fat Cats, The Jimmy Swift Band, Wassabi Collective & High Plains Drifter. As a performer Mark's belowing voice and tender lyrics call to mind the works of Paul Simon, CSN&Y and The Band. His songs Diamond Dancing & Sweet Good-bye are currently being mixed for release. He is backed by a talented and rootsy 4-piece band. www.nufunk.ca & www.jambands.ca present... Caution Jam www.cautionjam.com The Mark Wilson Band plus special guests... "These people are supportive and real. They go out and look for music, travel, listen to independently produced music, share." Whether it’s the boat cruises, the Jerry Garcia tribute shows, or the summer festivals, Caution Jam is eager to please. Between events, the guys play shows up and down the Trans-Canada all year long. They’ve toured the east coast eight times now and are always in and out of the Toronto circuit, playing gigs at Comfort Zone, Grossman’s Tavern and Jeff Healey’s bar— to name a few. According to the band, they get warm receptions in all places from Windsor to Collingwood, and Fredericton to Antigonish. Toronto’s jammin’ cowadelic funkgrass blues band. Please post your photos of Mark and Mark if you have some!! I love this shot of Mark Crissinger!

DJ CZECH Vancouver, BC www.djczech.com www.myspace.com/djczech Most underground-oriented Canadians living on the west coast of Canada are familiar with the legendary Soul Kitchen weekly event at Tommy Africas nightclub in Canadas top ski and snowboard destination, Whistler, British Columbia. Few, however, recall that it was DJ.Czech who introduced the event to BC over thirteen years ago. Indeed, today, Czechs Soul Kitchen remains the longest running club night in Whistler, and continues to showcase some of the worlds renowned DJ talent. Thus, Czechs initial step into Canadas Underground in 1989 has spawned a long prosperous career, for Czech has since become a household name for breaks-lovers everywhere. A Vancouver resident for the thirteen years, Czech has further established powerful draw to the already-thriving local Vancouver club scene. His residencies at Lucy Mae Brown Rusty Trombone Sundays and Le club a GO-GO on Thursdays with Vinyl Ritchie (Wicked Lester), coupled with his vast musical knowledge and impeccable turntable skills, have helped to establish Vancouver internationally as one of Canadas leading cities for up front electronic music. Importantly, though, these residencies have not interfered with his tight touring schedule. Initially self managed, Czechs reputation has led to play at prestigious clubs and massive raves throughout Europe and North America every weekend for last five years. HeadliningAlongside The Prodigy, Chemical Brothers, Orbital, Crystal Method, Rabbit in the Moon, Porno for Pyros, and countless others, has not been uncommon for Czech. His next step - writing and producing his own tracks was inevitable. Constantly building his impressive home studio, his prime outlet for his music so far has been Futuristic Funk Records a joint venture involving himself and two other Vancouverites. Already a label in Vancouvers foreground, Futuristic Funk Records is aimed at showcasing no only Czechs own material, but other Canadian talent as well. With such an extensive history in the scene, and so many accomplishments under his belt, it is no surprise that Czech continues to represent Canada as one of the most preeminent breaks DJs in the world.

The group's third studio album Weight of the World (Below Me Music 2006), distributed nationally by Outside Music, sees the band push their sound in a more rock based direction. A video for the album's first single, "Turnaround" will be released in early December. Half of JSB's repertoire consists of organic instrumental material, while the other half displays mature songwriting, powerful vocals, and memorable melodies within the framework of concise arrangements. With influences that range from Daft Punk to Guns N Roses, they meld a vast array of sonic stylings together to create a truly original sound. For the past six years, JSB has been forging a unique path in the Canadian music scene. During this time their energetic and improvisational live show has helped them develop a cult-like following. They play an average of 150 shows per year in clubs and at festivals across North America, including the Harvest Jazz and Blues Festival, the Evolve Festival, and the Shoreline Festival in Canada and moe.down and the Haymaker Festival in the US. For more information on each date, please visit: ]www.thejimmyswiftband.com JSB RELEASE NEW MUSIC VIDEO The Jimmy Swift Band released the first video from their new album Weight of the World to the public this week. The animated video is the result of collaboration with Halifax's Copernicus Studios (Nelly Furtado, Universal Soul, Spesh K) who specialize in what they call 2.5D animation, combining classic animation techniques with modern 3D computer graphics. The video can now be requested on Much Music and previewed through the following link: www.belowmemusic.com/turnaround The video chronicles the journey of the band, portrayed as puppets, from simple minstrels to revolutionaries, as they try to survive in the newly industrialized world of the execubots, giant corporate machines who've taken control of the land. Video Producer Bradley Cayford had this to say about the videos production: "It's hard to believe how much a song can represent so many things to so many people. In the case of The Jimmy Swift Band video, "Turnaround", every statement, every lyric and every chord struck so much meaning that it was almost as if the colours came right from the song. The colours and seasons reflect the mood of the song and the paint comes alive to bring true organic music to the forefront once again in an age similar to that of the industrial revolution and depression of the early 1930's. Imagination and creative instinct runs wild when the art is celebrated and not formulaic. Truly it feels as though it is time to turn around and show the world who we all are." "...I really hope that everyone in the world gets a chance to see this video and listen to the song because I think there's a message there that can really inspire a lot of people." The video's release comes hot on the heels of this years East Coast Music Awards Nominees announcement, in which Weight of the World has been given the nod for Rock Recording of the Year. This would be the bands second ECMA, having won the Alternative Artist of the Year award for their Debut album, Now They Will Know We Were Here in 2002. The new album is currently available in stores nation wide and will soon be offered in digital format through Apple's iTunes music store. The video can now be requested on Much Music and previewed through the following link: www.belowmemusic.com/turnaround For more on The Jimmy Swift Band, visit www.thejimmyswiftband.com www.myspace.com/tjsb this event is promoted by:

  14. Incidentally late on Sunday Night/Monday Morning I was playing Sex Machine on guitar, teaching some family and friends how to play it... Maybe his spirit reached me at that time? I did a thesis on him in University for Music History Class, I will try to post it if I can still find it. He is a musical pioneer and huge influence on my own playing. <<>>>>
